This is coming from my experience. There are people are inevitable going to be selfish and do anything they can to help their stats such as quitting and camping, most notably their K/D stat viewable on the website.
Why is K/D important you ask? Well, I think it’s something we inherited from good old Call of Duty when people used this stat to trash talk people because of their K/D since what most people played was Team Deathmatch, and that was the primary stat. Thus, it started the trend that K/D is the most important stat in any FPS and any gamemode.
I’ll use myself as an example. I used to quit if things weren’t going my way and since all kills and deaths are recorded down for that stupid K/D number. Naturally, I would want to quit because I don’t want that number to go down since quitting used to cancel out matches. Like many others, it’s that trait I have that makes me selfish and keeping that number up to brag about it always made me feel great.
Now here’s why I’m really looking forward to Social BTB. Since stats will not be put down on your record, people who hate seeing their precious K/D drop don’t have to worry about how much they die. Selfish people like me would pay more attention objectives and wouldn’t mind dying because it’s not going to matter in the end. It’s like matchmaking custom games; it reminds me of back in Halo 3 when the least important stat was K/D since it was never really noted on your service record and all that mattered was winning for fun.
Hlao 5 has definitely made a good step toawrds this with the KDA rather then KD. Honestly i think inot wanting to lose or finish out a game where you know you are going to lose is at least equal to the KD so i dont know if social will help
I know I quit when the match is just not worth it. Most the time I’ll tough it out, but when all hope is gone and I’m having a terrible time: I just cut my losses and leave to Crunchyroll or something.
Some people still care about their K/D in all playlists regardless if its in a social playlist.
There are many reasons to why people quit.
Having a social playlist may help slightly but wont make too much of an impact to the point where it matters.

Social playlists exist because it allows people to play and chat while still having fun because you don’t have to worry about any stats when you’re not ready to change them. People say you shouldn’t care about dying in Warzone but if you check your stats like K/D before and after the match on the website it’s affected. This can affect people who prefer their Arena stats to be separate.
Social will not help. This isn’t a KDA thing or a W/L thing. Look at Warzone right now. People are going in with teams of 12 and just destroying everyone. More social playlists will not help that. I used Warzone as an example because it’s unranked. If you go into Arena, you’ll encounter the exact same thing. What needs to be done is the implementation of a party limitation system, where the game tries to match you with similar groupings. Randoms with Randoms, Teams of X amount with Teams of X amount and so on. Idc about KDA or W/L, I care about having my time wasted when I go into match making and spend 2 hours being pummelled into dust by some jerk and his buddies who teamed up. Since no one really uses their mic ingame, there’s no way to co-ordinate against anything, teams or not. And spending two hours being beaten across BTB, SWAT, Breakout, Team Arena and both Warzone Playlists is really no fun. Adding more playlists that are UNRANKED, meaning there’s literally no buffer between you and the guys who are like, Onyx, and in full teams, looking to slap randoms around, is a bad idea, if the general matchmaking system is not repaired.
And when I say losing is no fun, I mean, being spawncamped in slayer, being held up at 0 - 2 flag caps, with the other team farming kills, being forced into your home base and being sniped by 6 guys with snipers, while the rest of the team is pushing in tanks, or with OS, being zerged and back capped in Warzone Assault, via the armory exploit, is no fun.
Having your game time turned into torture is not fun. There is no “git gud” against full teams. And in the case of social, like you are suggesting, there still is no “git gud” because you go here specifically to play casually.
Halo & Call of Duty have always been the bigger “tryhard” games where people think it has to be MLG Finals every game. Even in Unranked Warzone a lot of my friends take it waaaaay too seriously. Some of them won’t even play unless the party is always 10 people or more. I’ve heard friends of friends in the parties say stuff like, “I’m not taking this loss, blah blah blah…” then they cheat somehow to back out & not take the loss. The one kid is the biggest crybaby ever. Why do stats matter to him so much, another game will come out & nobody will even look back at those old stats. If those stats aren’t legit anyways, you’re basically cheating & leaving or always in a full party, what’s it matter?
Back on topic though, I think the two worst ones about this are Team Slayer & Big Team Battle. There’s been a number of times where everybody leaves Slayer when you’re down & I’m stuck there as the only person in the game getting killed over & over. The game should just end & give them a win, it’s fine with me, especially since there are penalties for backing out. I really don’t want to sit there for 5+ minutes just getting killed over & over with no chance. Big Team too…just yesterday, it was early on & the other team literally scored one flag, we had tons of time & they only scored once, yet three of our team immediately quit. Is that how it is today, everybody just gives up/rolls over & dies so easily? So we were basically stuck 5 vs. 8 for the rest of the time & of course the other team sees it as an “opportunity” to just spawn kill for a while instead of scoring the other flags.
From what I understood there are two social playlists coming with the Cartographers Gift update, one is BTB and the other is unknown due to them saying its a secret on what it’ll be.
Once those come out we can see whether it’ll make a difference or not
I’ve been playing first person shooters for a long time now and I think the rise of the K/D obsession is sucking all the fun out of the games. The whole culture has really gone the wrong way. Your average player is K/D obsessed, non-communative and aggressive. These sorts of people have always been in the Xbox Live community but a growing culture has driven more and more people that way. I also think this has driven some of the older Halo fans away from the game as they’re now up against a type of person that they fundamentally find annoying.
I don’t think including social playlists will make this situation any better, this is just the culture that exists within gaming now. It’s very sad puts on rose tinted glasses The good old early days of Xbox Live were the best, the amount of people using it was much lower, everyone was there for the same reason and generally everyone chatted and had fun.
I could not give less of a monkey about K/D. It irks me to have it so prominent in Halo. The game that brought us Rocket Races and Griffball suddenly cares about kills?! Rubbish. It also really doesn’t fit my style of play which is much more close quarters, run and gun rather than camp with a BR and whine about the number of hits it takes to get a kill. Competitively, I care about my team wining and me having fun.
I agree, that the whole ‘KD’ thing kind of ruins many games. As such, I really wish that warzone in particular lost this arbitrary number, in fact, I’d go so far as to say that KD should only be a thing in either team slayer (or related) and team arena, because in objective gamemodes, it is a useless method of measuring performance. Dying 20 times in a capture the flag match doesn’t hurt your team, and even if you get 0 kills, if you get 3 captures, then you are your team’s MVP. KD’s encourage people to ignore objectives, and focus on getting kills. But warzone is probably the best example, 100 spartan kills is still only 100 points, where 4 low level AI kills can be of the same value to a team. KD needs to stop being displayed, except in competitive gametypes. It’ll be better for all of Halo.
And no I’m not just saying that because I’m down about mine… I swear.
(In all seriousness, I do believe it would be better for the community is KD took a backseat.)
have you considered that people may be simply not enjoying that match. After all if you are having no fun in a match, which is supposed tone fun, then why play the match?
People!! You really, really need to stop blaming everything bad on CoD!!! I’m more than sure a decent amount of new players do not regularly play CoD anymore than anyone else, if anything Halo 5 have brought over fans from competitive PC games.

> And I just quit another match because the stupid matchmaking is unbelievable. I can’t get into a fair game where my team can actually do something.
Wow OP.
People like you are the problem. Yes your K/D looks impressive but your win percentage and playlist ranks (the ones which aren’t borken) are frankly laughable.
Keep up your selfish acts and hopefully the bans get more severe.
Many games I have been the last one in a game and get killed over and over.
People who quit to save their K/D or because the game isn’t going their way should just trade in the game and go play pikman or something.
