Why people are upset about the free DLC

This is a post to shed some light on why people dislike these updates. You can tell there are a ton of misunderstandings on why, and just plain generalizing, but I hope that people will at least understand.

We do this so it doesn’t happen again for Halo 6, and to let 343i know that this isn’t a good idea. This shouldn’t be hard to understand.

These updates are bringing us things that should have been in the game on Day 1. The DLC aren’t bringing us new things. The UI updates (post game medals), a file browser, and gametypes (with settings, which we still need more of for infection) should have been there on release. The sad part is, we still are missing some settings for infection, which we were waiting 7 months to get, not to mention we still don’t have a proper in game file browser. 7 months in the games lifespan. This game launched missing many things, and these updates are just playing catch up to the older games. Wow.

What else is in the updates? REQs. REQs are generally filler, and I highly doubt anyone would classify Emblems and the same ugly armor sets with different white paint patterns on them as “new”. This is from my point of view, I don’t really like Warzone, it’s really a modified strongholds with AI and more players, so REQ’s aren’t worth anything to me.

The maps are also an issue. 3/8 of the DLC maps were remixes. This would be OK, if we had plenty of base maps in the game that weren’t already remixes. Not to mention, the maps have been generally bad (arena), except for Tyrant and Stasis.

There really isn’t much else to it. Not to mention, would anyone actually pay for this stuff? Honest question. Even 343i knows you can’t charge people for game types. Just because it’s free doesn’t make it good.

> And yet had there not been any “entitled brats” asking for things like Infection, the various ball-based modes, UI changes, and more such things probably wouldn’t exist that you could point to in order to show 343 is providing stuff. You can continue to use childish insults if you want, it only makes you look bad by comparison.

TL;DR- I am entitled and a whiner. (Or something like that)

The thing is, only some of this stuff should have been at launch. Do we really expect the CE Pistol, SPNKR Rocket, H2 BR, and Brute Plasma Rifle to a game that…really doesn’t have anything to do them?

The problem with Halo 5 is that it focused on too much of one aspect to the point where many others were overlooked. Take Halo: Reach for example. Everyone raves about the maps and Custom Games and all that, when the multiplayer gameplaywas overall a worse experience than Halo 3, and it took 343i taking over to even remotely fix it. And not many of those maps were really memorable, especially the DLC maps and how rare it is to get one during late-game.

And then you have the realization that this is just a lot for one company to put in this game with the time they had. I mean if they had the power, they could delay Halo 5 to this point and have everything, but then people would complain for that too. People would bargain that they can “handle waiting for all the content” (which is what we’re doing now), but fact of the matter is, everyone wants everything right now.

I guess my only real complaint is that people wants everything at launch, when we’re no longer…at launch. You’ll still find people upset that Forge wasn’t at launch.

> Not to mention, would anyone actually pay for this stuff? Honest question. Even 343i knows you can’t charge people for game types. Just because it’s free doesn’t make it good.

But if 343i were to make paid DLC, that doesn’t make any guarantees either. For all we know, we could have all this stuff packaged in DLC, and either people would riot and sales would plummet, or people would suck it up and buy it, and the community would be fragmented to Yoink! and that would be a problem in itself.

Sounds like me, according to some people in Waypoint.

Somehow.

Paid DLC wouldn’t be the stuff we are getting now, there isn’t a chance in hell they would try and get people to pay for remxes.

I believe he is referring to the (shills? fanboys?) who call people like you and CorporalWing0 “entitled” and “whiny”, when all you guys are really doing is spreading awareness for Halo 6 and to remind people that some of this content isn’t new and would never be put into a paid DLC package, unless 343i wanted to crap on the dwindling community some more. That’s how I understand it.

Correct. I probably should have been more clear.

Thanks for the clear up.

There’s already an active thread for this, no need to make a new one.

Yes, but we both know that no one is actually looking for why people are not ok with it. I made this so it will clear up that misunderstanding.
