Why not?

Why is it 343 doesn’t allow you to play as an Elite in Halo 4? They’ve been around since the first Halo, so it would make sense to make them playable in war games. I hate having to go on Halo:Reach just to play as an Elite. I wish 343 would make it happen, I know they can.

  1. because multiplayer is story relevent now and in halo 4 the covies are enemies so playing as them doesn’t make sense.

  2. they can’t. Maybe if we jumped back a year and halo 4 was still being made. But they can’t make it possible now.

I don’t think 343i has any room to add things like this. Like Spartan Ops, memory is limited.

Not only that, all of the Elite models are standing tall. They would have to make completely new, hunched over, Elites to keep hitboxes balanced, unless they were to only be used in a gametype like Invasion.

If the game is designed with them in mind (Halo 5) and it doesn’t take up a bunch of space, then I’d love to see them back. Especially if it means a return of invasion.

Balance, focus on Spartans I’d say.

> Balance, focus on Spartans I’d say.

Actually Elites have always been balanced, you could play as them in H2, H3, and Reach (Granted Reach was restricted to one gametype)

But 343I’s explanation is that they want the MP to be canon so you have Spartans doign excercises aboard the infinity, fight simulations if you will.

Uh wait arent there covenant on the main story? then it would make sense to have them in MP to practice against the real enemy.

Elite’s won’t be comming back in Halo 4 multiplayer. It would make sence to add them for the next Halo game since so many people like them. Personaly I think it was unnecessary to make the multiplayer have a story if it meant taking out something as big as Elites.

As I wrote in another topic:

> I firmly believe that gameplay and features should not be sacrificed for the sake of “realism” or “canon.”

I honestly believe that the reason Elites aren’t playable in multiplayer is that there is no Invasion gametype.

And I never liked them in Halo 2/3 multiplayer anyway because of the shape differences, giving them different advantages. I remember always switching to the Elite model whenever I played SWAT because the head was harder to hit from behind.

You couldn’t play as Elites in Halo: CE either sillys.

> You couldn’t play as Elites in Halo: CE either sillys.

Nor could you play online only on Lan, whats your point again? (Unless you played PC version)

Oh but you could play as them in Halo 2, 3 and Reach.

  1. Not necessarily. The Covenant currently exists in 3 known factions:

The Covenant Loyalists are the Covies that stayed loyal to the Prophets during the Schism, primarily composed of Brutes and Drones. They are currently having peace-talks with humanity.

The Covenant Remnant are the Covies that follow Jul 'Mdama, primarily composed of Grunts, Elites, Jackals, and Hunters. They are in open war with humanity.

And the Covenant Loyalist are the Coveies that follow the Arbiter, Thel 'Vadam. They are primarily composed of just Elites. They are not only at peace with humanity, but are allies and will fight and train alongside them.

The Covenant Loyalist elites could have easily appeared in Halo 4’s multiplayer, and would be displayed distinctly by their use of original Covenant armour as it appeared in Halo 3 and Reach. While the Remnant uses the more brutal looking armour we see in Halo 4.

  1. DLC

Through DLC we’ve seen a lot of things in the past, from new maps in Halo 2 and beyond, re-skinned vehicles and the completely re-designed Hornet in Halo 3, Halo Reach had a new helmet showcased as part of the defiant map pack that never made it into the game. And now with Halo 4 we’ve seen completely new gametypes, armours, armour skins, and weapon skins. I’m pretty sure the existence of new armour appearances in Halo 4 means it’s very possible to integrate a new player model. Preferrably Halo 2/3 style, where you can play as one no matter the gametype or map, and you have the same stats as a Spartan. For the model, I’d like it to be shaped like Halo Reach’s, standing straight up, but scaled down in size so you are at an equal height and width to a Spartan.

Partially balance issues, but mostly because they just didn’t have the time I think.

> Balance, focus on Spartans I’d say.

Exactly. Never enjoyed playing as an Alien anyway.

Invasion wouldn’t be the same without Elites.

> Invasion wouldn’t be the same without Elites.

I wouldn’t miss playing as any “alien” be it a Elite Brute or Knight.

A entire new awesome gametype will come around eventually.

So that is a good enough reason to shun out those who enjoyed playign as them? ok then.

Its as if people that liked playing as Elites went about saying how tehy should focus on them and remove spartans from MM.

Its the typical case of stop liking what I dont like.

Sorry but If Elites have been playable in MOST Halo games enough to get a decent ammount of players that enjoy playing as them they should keep them in MM.

Why do people keep thinking is just because multiplayer is canon? That doesn’t stop them from adding sangheili.

They decided to focus on Spartans. And also, I wouldn’t say elites ere all balanced in other games…

Sounds like the most likely explanation to me.

Spartans and Elites are shaped differently. If you give them appropriate and different hitboxes, then one or the other will gain an advantage from some body parts being harder to hit.

If you give them the same hitboxes despite their different visual models, then one or the other will gain an advantage from some body parts being harder to aim at. The difference will arise from inconsistencies between where a body part appears to be (visual model), and where the engine considers it to be (hitbox).

Spartans and Elites can’t be put on equal footing, which is why Elites were almost universally locked out of Reach-era Matchmaking. We can’t know with certainty that that contributed to Halo 4’s lack of playable Elites, but it was probably a factor.

Well that’s your opinion. Many people including me, want Elites back. PS. Invasion was the only playlist I played in Reach. It’s probably still my favourite gametype of all time.

I’d love to play as an Elite again in Halo, it was one of the main reasons why I loved Halo 2, 3, and Reach. I had an option to play as the main enemy of the Covenant, to fight with or against in multiplayer. It adds variety to the series. More options is good, less isn’t.

Add in time and resource constraints.
