Why not racism?

So we have a sexism ban, which I don’t know how well that’s gonna work. But what about racism? I seem to run into a lot more racism than sexism. I count more times hearing racial slurs than sexist jokes. Are we just okay with racist talk because it’s so natural with gaming now?

I don’t get why they even have the option to report for any type of offensive language. There’s a Block Communications button for a reason.

Because women -Yoink- more about sexism than people in general do about racism.

I think they are both highly disappointing, but there is only so much that can be done for people on xbox. Also people use racist terms to refer to friends and such so it is just a gray area all around these things.

Probably. 343 most likely wants to enlarge their fanbase (which includes female gamers), so by enforcing this permaban rule they want to entice for women to play Halo 4? Maybe of just drawing straws here.

THANK YOU! I’m black, and I can’t even tell you how many times I have to deal with racial slurs being thrown around at me on Xbox live, from men, women, AND KIDS!!! I understand wanting to put an end to isms and discrimination, but if you’re gonna do something for some of us, do it for ALL of us. If not, then don’t do it at all and make people make use of the mute option.

Racism can get you permanently banned from Xbox LIVE already, to my knowledge, sexism can as well, it would fall under harassment.

In the write-up that I’ve seen, they also cover racist slurs as an offense result in a permanent ban.

Things like this are just pointless. When you enter an online social environemt, this stuff should be expected everywhere you go.

Whenever a racist pops up in a game of mine I’ve noticed that 99% of people will tell them to shut thier ignorant mouths. Why blatant sexism isn’t treated the same way I’ll never understand. I mean stereotypical racist and sexist joke are funny but there is still a line to be crossed. And when its been crossed I for one speak up.

I saw a video of an argument on Xbox Live between a black man and a white girl. The girl started by being racist and the man responded with sexism. Based on the current rules, the man will be perma-banned and the girl will continue playing and being racist. It’s still discriminatory in its own way.

If you were a girl, you wouldn’t be saying that. Because you’d be experiencing that sexism for yourself.

Giving an added boost to stop sexist players isn’t giving racist players a free pass, guys. Stop pretending you’re the victims here.

I’ve done a test where I had my sister put on the mic and talk while I played (because she doesn’t know how to game), and no one made any sexist jokes in Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield.

Oh, I guess that one time your sister played Call of Duty totally means that all of the thousands of incidents of sexism and abuse don’t exist anymore.

Thank you, Professor Science! >_>

Because the executives at 343i must be extreme feminists…

People should be banned for racism yes,But for racism both against whites, blacks etc. not just black people.

Statements like these is one of the many things wrong with mainstream feminism

That was only one play session. ALL female gamers experience some form of sexism in thier gaming “careers”. I’m black and whenever a racist shows up in the lobby everyone shuts him/her down. Whenever a sexist player shows up everyone laughs and starts to make kitchen and rape jokes.

“That one time” was several days then. Most people are just like “Whoah, you’re a girl?” No kitchen jokes, no sexist names, people were good with it. But then mention your race and people go all ape and racist.

Why not Zoidberg?

I exchange random racist jokes with my mixed pot of Xbox friends all the time, so if we offend anyone who overhears, apologies. We’re just internet idiots, pay us no mind. (And if you know any good white jokes, tell us. There’s too few of them to go around.)

On that note, whether it’s by someone like me or someone who actually means it as an insult to your nationality, try not to take internet people too seriously. I know it counts for so much coming from a random white guy online but most of the time people aren’t racist that I’ve encountered, they’re just screwing around.

However, if they actually mean it hatefully, banning should ensue to some degree or another. Racist, sexist or homophobic attitudes really need to be kept in check. I’ve met some people (of several different ‘flavors’, mind you) who I had to mute to feel comfortable teamed with and I’m not an easily offended guy.

EDIT: Wow… Peeked at that linked page. I really, really hope those are exception like I think they are. I hope I haven’t just been lucky enough to miss a majority population of absolute pigs.
