Players get to move fast without sacrificing gunplay, makes things more balanced since anyone can shoot anyone at anytime
Fits the lore somewhat since spartans can move faster than normal humans, so it would make sense that they could “speedwalk”
Gives a better feeling to a fast paced arena shooter like quake/tribes. One of the complaints people have always had about halo since CE was its “slow speed”, as in the players move slowly, sprint encourages a slow base movement speed in comparison to a movement speed without sprint.
Only negative I can think off the top of my head is that strafing against other players could be annoying as the players are moving too fast? Someone know whether or not this is true? I can’t remember how it would play out.
Try playing Halo 3 with a speed multiplier. The effect isn’t just “Halo 4 with more fun weapons.” Its a spastic mess.
Think of sprint as a separate combat mode. Engage it if all you want to do is move with haste, don’t if you want to do anything else (like shoot accurately or hit a precise spot on the map.) Its like an inverse scope for your legs.
It’s about the feel of immersion. Faster base movement speed is more inline with just making the game feel like a classic arcade shooter like Quake but it’s not as empowering is just running forward at a full sprint, which is a just large part of modern shooters.
This is more about trying to create something that feels like playing as a Spartan.

Obviously a faster base movement speed is better for competitive gameplay but they’re trying to appeal to a wider demographic by adding in Sprint and all these new features.
I dislike sprint for some petty reasons, but in general I would prefer it to stay. It contributes to the skill gap and as far as I’m concerned, that gap will never be wide enough.
