Why no friendly fire?

The topic is in the title really.

I know there are flaws in friendly fire, especially in social games, but for me it just takes away that element of team work away even further; unless you count chucking a grenade into your ally and an enemy trying to beat each other down to steal the kill as team work…

After originally hating this game I am beginning to really enjoy it; it is fun, but I feel it is a halo game which has gone in the direction I didn’t want the series to go down. I feel like the only thing I’m focused on in a game now is how good my KD ratio is, which is not what halo used to be about.

And seeing as this stat is for all war games, I am constantly finding in my competitive nature I am trying to keep this up, rather than focusing on winning games and completing objectives. I don’t think that is right.

Opinions?

You want to Betray Team Mates go back to Reach…

It was a Bungie thing friendly fire was always a fun thing betray and get the boot option…343 just decided to take it off because of complaints i think

oh no no, but you sure as heck can sit outside your base and spam the plasma pistols charged shot onto a mantis so he cant pilot it anywhere. so much for friendly fire saving my -Yoink- on that one.

Haha I don’t want to betray, although I feel some people want to betray me when I take their kill. But I feel having no friendly fire detracts from teamplay. If I am only concerned with getting as many kills as possible, and know I can steal kills without risking being booted by launching in hundreds of grenades, then it has a detrimental effect on gameplay.

I think Halo 4 is going to be a huge learning experience for 343i. Normally every developer knows to ignore the very vocal minority on their forums that are trying to simply cheat the system, but since 343i is new they think the loud minority is just the people who have the guts to speak up.

Yeah can someone take this post down, it’s ridiculous.

Why is this post ridiculous? I am merely posting my thoughts that friendly fire should be a feature of the game, and was intrigued to know 343’s decision to take it out, with the exception of appealing to a larger audience of casual gamers.

nah they are ignoring all of us

I like that there is no betrayals. I hated people betraying me over the Sniper Rifle…

Oddly enough, friendly fire is present in Flood, the only playlist that really shouldn’t have it.

I don’t think betrayal booting is there, though.

Yes it is. A guy betrayed me 3 times and it gave me the option to boot him.

It’s to prevent trolls

I think Friendly Fire is the better option for all playlists - sure it’s got disadvantages such as betraying - but I personally feel the alternative is worse.

No friendly fire means not having to think when you’ve got Rockets or an Incineration Cannon - just fire away, regardless of Team-mates in the vicinity.

And let’s not even go into the potential exploits that can be done with the sticky detonator and a team mate you can’t harm…

I don’t particularly want to betray teammates but I think it’s silly to have FF off, having to actually aim around teammates makes sense. Games where you can just shoot the crap out of your teammates faces kind of defeat everything they try to accomplish on the “realistic shooter” front. It makes things seem a little too easy mode.
I hadn’t actually noticed it until yesterday when I was playing SWAT and a teammate walked directly in front of my BR, that -Yoink- happens ALL THE TIME in SWAT, shooting around your teammates while everyone is trying to get a kill is tense and part of the experience. I expected to have to apologize but nope. I actually spent a good deal of time trying to shoot teammates after that to confirm that FFA was off, haha.
I understand that they do this sort of thing to curb griefing and team-killers but people will ALWAYS find ways to be -Yoinks!-, they could have done more to curb intentional teamkills but this seems like the most simplistic way to go about it.

I just saw this on another forum this. Whilst it is frankly hilarious it does prove one of the points I was trying to get across.

I am not sure but I actually think I’ve got kills shooting through my team mates head. now if I have no shield and they are in front of me with over shield taking the shots, that seems like clever team play, but it also is most definitely not realistic.

Good to know. I’ve never been given the option so I wasn’t sure.

I agree- lack of freindly fire promotes idiotic play and lack of team work.

Now if I’m assassinating someone my “team mate” can just shoot a rocket at me and steal my kill.

I was hoping the booting system would just get improved- but no. 343 had to laze their way out of another important game mechanic/feature JUST to make it easier on themselves.

Literally, having to AVOID firing upon your team mates was one of the MANY things that made Halo a ‘thinking’ shooter and not just a blind fire fest.

I like that friendly fire is gone. I’m tired of griefers and team-killing ****tards.

Friendly fire is gone? I’ve been betrayed, but come to think of it that was only by vehicles hitting me. That’s -Yoinking!- -Yoink-.
