We had clan support in 2005 for halo 2 on the original xbox and original xbox live. Why in the world can 343i create an enormous user interface for challenges, loadouts, armor etc. But can’t include clan support?
If you don’t like clans then it doesn’t matter, you don’t have to join one, it doesn’t affect you. But doesn’t anybody miss having clan battles and entire clans dedicated to people who love one playlist in particular?
It made no sense to me when they took it out in halo 3 and it continues to baffle me now when they fail to put it in.
They probaly got their reasons for not putting it back in.
And to be honest, clans still around?
Because i have YET to meet a clan these days that weren’t made up by 11-14 year olds with a really weird name. ‘‘UNSC supporters’’ ‘‘Shadow ninja strikers’’
Stuff like that. I doubt clans really are CLANS like they were in 2005.
…because clans are bad and 343 realizes this. There is a reason why lol clans exists. Clan battles are for 12 year old kids who love to play out military fantasies and pretend they know how to structure an organization ( I AM LEADER OF THE 12TH SEA FORCE PLATOON AND DA CLAN FOR HALO 4! MY SECOND IN COMMAND IS MLGDROPSHOTZ, MESSAGE HIM IF YOU WANT TO TRY OUT FOR SPARTAN FORCE MAJESTIC!)
In all seriousness, i believe the question has been asked about clan support and they are aware of it’s absence since Halo 2. There hasn’t been a solid reason to why it’s been missing in action for the greater part of Halo’s lifespan.
Hell if things like Spectator mode, clan support, streaming options (like COD), and more bug testing in MP could be put into Halo 4, i would have preferred the game to be delayed until March. Now, we have to wait for things to be patched in.
Not sad to see them go, and was one of the few improvements of Halo 3 from Halo 2. That being said, the reason Bungie, and subsequently 343i, got rid of clans was because it essentially added a second friends list for people playing the game, and that is a biiiiig no-no for Microsoft. Don’t expect to see them back now or in any future games.

There are more clans than just the kids who want to pretend they’re military. Many clans are really just friends who play together under some old name, and want to challenge other clans.

Dude. Don’t use a dark color on a dark background ever again.

So someone who doesn’t like tryhard kids pretending they’re being tactical and screaming in their ears is a loner or emo? Good one.
Once again, the reason clans are gone is because Microsoft doesn’t want to pay to support two friends lists.

“because Microsoft doesn’t want to pay to support two friends lists.” What?
Does no one ever read anymore? 343i Clearly stated that there MAYBE clan support in the distant future.
"Halo 4 updates could introduce clans and Theatre Mode campaign support, according to 343 Industries’ Jessica O’Shea.
Writing in the latest Halo bulletin, she said (via OXM): "Theater Mode in Campaign did not make the cut for launch for various reasons of scheduling, rendering issues and some significant engine changes.
“However, we are treating Title Updates very differently for Halo 4 and rather than simply using them as opportunities for simple big fixes, we are thinking of them as a way to sustain and grow features and options, so it is possible you could see Saved Films made available for Campaign (as well as some other significant features) at some time in the not-too-distant future, but that’s yet to be determined.”
On the subject of clan support, O’Shea said: "As we mentioned before, we plan to continue consistent and meaningful sustainment updates to improve and enhance player experience.
“Social constructs are something we too have missed since Halo 2, and we’re looking at interesting ways to improve those experiences in the not-too-distant future. I will be using that expression a lot. Get used to it.”
Microsoft has confirmed a Halo 4 release date of November 6. Our Halo 4 review describes 343’s debut series entry as “one of the best multiplayer shooters on 360”, although we said “Reach has the better Firefight and Halo 3 has the better campaign”."
I seem to see one every 10 or so matches, very funny to see! I remember trying to join them back in Halo 2 days, but once they said that I had to change my GT, I quit and deleted everyone I knew from there!
They kinda sucked too…
OT: Yeah, clans sucked, it was a cool feature, but only tools used it!
clans are coming in a halo 4 title update my friend. google it. also yes i love clans although im a bit vague on clans in original xbox and also i feel that clans wont be significant until microsoft makes clan support for live as it needs to be from start up dash board and then offer features useable by developers in the games they make so any clan support is ultimately going to be a mostly waypoint functionality similar to cod elites version of clans although hopefully free, they are also adding a new fully tested and invisible and thus ungrindable true skill system to match us up by so no more one sided matches. and a new map pack in december they have been oddly quiet about and josh holmes has hinted that they have held onto a few armors and loadout stuff to release later other than what specializations they have locked so far. that last bit is implied by the fact that its newer news and they already talked about specializations before launch in detail and he seemed secretive hinting and teasing in his mention of it. he also mentions sagas about equally cool spartans other than chief as a possibility confirming my suspicions in a way, which im fine about i guess, they made mc cool they can make another cool so long as hes not part of some team or going by some call sign like noble 6 did, as long as hes a fully realized likeable tough character. they have also made mention of xbox 720 coming next year and not wanting to rush a halo 5 to meet its launch and so they may port halo 4 to it for launch, which i also think is for the best so long as they put out more map packs and keep supporting it as they have been. google these things and read em yourself cause im making a wall here lol

actually let me correct, clan support is confirmed and due in a title update btw, and my sort of clan is made up of 18-30 year old members of my family we play casually not competitively and with each other cause its better with ppl ya know and you win more because you get call outs about down or checked out power weapons enemy locations and playing with the same group means you learn their style, i know to move for sword my brother in law likes shotty and my cousin likes sniper, i know aoe weapons like concusion are best for my brother and if i ge an ordinance thats no good for me i can say hey gotcha sniper here or scattershot here or sticky detonator on me. i also know on maps where there isnt a certain weapon that i can travel with my cousin around the map flushing sniper targets for my guys sniping what areas he can see and when im out of his lines and need to go back, my brother travels with dmrs and plasma pistols so i can get assists and watch his back by carrying br for ppl who get in too close for his dmr. its a great advantage to give yourself and no after a month playing with somebody all those tactics become normal not even something that enters your head much and therefore i can socialize, they have driver gunner flag carrier prefferences and its very detailed but in no time at all you become a well oiled machine. in total there are 8 of us all with matching gamertags justt cause its funny watching ppl quit. we arent unbeatable, i know it doesnt sound casual by my description but its mostly social chatting about upcomming parties and at whose house lol. clans are good but again i care little, i got mine already. and no sir we dont organize for clan battles we play matchmaking. im only friends with the vipers who i dont know personally, but who are also all family about 6 in number and play casual matchmaking aswell. they are better and younger than most of us but they are also always on and therefore give us somebody to team with on occasion in matchmaking when my guys are working or not available. we dont do customs, they’d kick our -Yoinks!- anyways if we did, and by younger no i still mean all 18-22 they as we are a reformed clan on 360 from halo 2 and no halo isnt either clans only game we like any and all AAA multiplayer games and have guys who play each more or less
Clans went bye bye once the 360 was released, I think I recall either Bungie, stating that Clan’s in Halo 2 were just a secondary friends list. My memory is a bit foggy but it’s what I believe to remember about them being gone.
Well, I’m sure if enough people vote for it then they could easily add it in. Someone should simply go ahead and start a thread/create a poll for people. Rather than recreating it over and over the OP can “bump” it every once in awhile to gather more votes. Eventually the moderators/343i will see it.
I personally loved clans when they had them in Halo 2. It created an awesome social environment.
I think they stopped because a lot of people started to create clan websites and charge membership fees. So I kind of understand why they stopped them. However I feel if people wanted to start or join paid memberships they should’ve banked on that trend instead of squashing it. A decision to remove it was probably a bad choice. They could’ve created a monitored network where people can do stuff like that and retrieve a profit. Bad business strategizing if you ask me, they could’ve had a 1up on the social networking phenomena if the dudes in higher ups had any sense. Ha!
