I don’t really intend for this to come off as a complaint, but I find myself rather confused by 343i’s actions in this regard. While I understand that they are making new additions to the game and steadily adding on new game modes (Infection and Grifball supposedly to drop this month), it’s the company’s way of prioritizing things that have me confused. I’d need to go and find it, but I’m fairly certain that someone from 343i can be quoted at launch or shortly afterwards that if there was enough interest, they’d add a purely PvE gamemode similar to Reach’s Firefight or Halo 4’s Spartan Ops if there was enough demand for it. Frankly, there is - for a while there had been a topic specifically about that floating around here earlier, with well over 60 pages of response from the community asking for it. And while I do understand that 343i has the bad habit of not really paying attention to their forums (something that really boggles the mind and something I still can’t quite wrap my head around given the attention Bungie paid to their community), they’ve always made a point of maintaining a company presence on other online hubs like Reddit… but at the same time, the exact same topic had been posted there as well, with overwhelming support from the community and still not a peep from 343i. It’s not like they’ve lacked for ideas either. In both threads, they’ve had over 1,000 responses and community ideas related to such a mode should it potentially be made, plenty of inspiration to draw from that would make a majority of the community ecstatic were it to be implemented in any shape or form.
Everything is there to guarantee prolonged interest in Halo 5 to the point that the online population would likely explode and be maintained for months if a purely PvE multiplayer mode was put into place. So… why the hold up? What does 343i stand to lose as opposed to what they stand to gain from this?
I agree. The way ive wrapped me head around 343 is that they dont unveil anything until they have nailed down their idea for it. Im sure they have seen the demand on here with multiple threads popping up including the big one now over 72+ pages. Theres also a huge follow on halo reddit. They maybe in the planning phase hopefully and probably will confirm it soon i hope. Probably not until the spring or possibly later. Remember they didnt show anything about warzone until e3 4 months before the game launched. But yeah im with you. Im super juiced for a warzone firefight. I just hope if they do it its done right. With some really addicting modes. They will undoubtedly have to beef up their ai because they stand there in one spot waiting to be killed. They should fight like their life depends on it. Yeah anyway…i hope we get some word soon. I think someone should get on twitter and ask 343 directly. Cuz they dont respond worth a damn on these forums.
Sadly, playlist numbers from Reach: Firefight and Halo 4: Spartan Ops were never very substantial, and a thousand people responding to a forum thread is still a pretty small number in the scheme of things. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but I haven’t seen anything yet that I would qualify as the critical mass of interest Frankie spoke of. And it pains me to say so. Nothing would make me happier than Warzone without the annoying other twenty-three players.
There are a few reasons, it’s not like they don’t want to give us what we are highly asking for. But first of all, I think that it was said if we showed enough interested, 343 would develop a PvE mode after the initial months of free DLC, so nothing before June. Those updates we are getting are mostly already planned ahead and I doubt they want to intervene with that, looking at how CE Magnum was a thing in “The Sprint” but still hasn’t made it into Warzone yet. PvE would take resources and a lot of development time away from what was planned ahead for the already promised updates. They most certainly are aware, but still need to stick to their deadlines.
And secondly, just to put it to perspective, a gametype like Grifball was undergoing months of testing to get it right. Grifball.
Now I don’t mean that Grifball doesn’t take any effort to develop, but in comparision to something as big as the REQ firefight, while being true and similiar to the previous ones to still give us a ton of new features? That’s a huge huge beast. I’d rather they take their time and make something amazing other than rush it out to please the masses only temporarily.
And lastly, I’m pretty sure firefight’s gonna be DLC. It’s a totally different thing, has its own matchmaking area unlike Arena, where map DLC would divide those that have them from those that don’t since they both still take place in the same playlist. And since some 343 epmloyees said that if it were developed, it wouldn’t be included in the free updates, I don’t think they would make it free as there is no reason to. They know that it really is the hot -Yoink- right now that everybody wants. But it’s gonna be expensive for them, so somewhere some funding needs to come from. which is why I bet they are gonna demand some additional money for it. And they will sure as hell get mine.
I guess no one agrees. Probably because PvE = campaign. Go play it guys. No one is stopping you.
Give it time, I think they’ll give us something at E3

That’s not true I think. I remember back when Reach was at its peak, that short arcade version of Firefight seemed to be doing quite well all the time.
343 is crazy if they think they should not cater to people who just want to shoot things without all the hassle of playing against other human beings. The popularity of Horde mode and PVE content in Destiny(not talking raids, but just things like heroic strikes, coming together and playing daily story with bounties and such), is proof there is MASSIVE interest in these type of modes, if done right.
In a perfect world, I see a PVE Warzone mode with REQ’s, medals, scoring/commendation tickers that track your stats and show up in the HUD (like in Gears Of War/COD). Stuff like that makes people come back over and over again.
Infection is dropping this month? When have 343 said that?
