The current system is better for visualizing our skill; especially, in the upper echelons. Our TrueSkill levels are what dictate the SBMM in Halo 5: Guardians as well as in all Xbox games. The ranks are essentially just visual -Yoink!- of that skill level broken down per a game-type/playlist.

umm this current system has so many flaws in it
and 1-50 in halo 3 was way better than this ranking system
This thread has been done to death please search and reply before you create a new topic that isn’t new. The ranking system in Halo 5 actually makes sense and puts players against similar skill level. I for one enjoy the competitive play after 10 games rather than the competitive play after 45 levels of grinding.

You say this nonsense everytime someone tries to bring up how bad the ranking system in this game is.
Both use trueskill, but 1-50 utilized it a hell of a lot better.
The new system is significantly better. You can clearly see your exact rank when you are amongst the top 2000 players in a playlist. When you are champion CSR#1, you are the highest ranked player in the playlist. Its a combination bracket system for general matchmaking, and an exact ranking number for the top 2000 players of that playlist
The 10 game placement system is significantly faster at getting you ranked, v.s. the old ladder climb, where high skilled players would abuse low skilled players for a longer duration.
The new system has just a few flaws. 1) new players don’t understand how the placement matches work, and get very frustrated when tested against higher ranked players and 2) the placement matches sometimes place someone one bracket (or two) above where they belong, with no means to rank down. Once you have obtained a bracket, you are stuck there.

You tell me, I am confused why people don’t like it. The new system creates a highly competitive space that requires that the top 2000 players hold their rank, or fall back into the final bracket diamond.
1-50 was a highly flawed ranking system where people commonly exploited True Skill’s uncertainty factor, which created a wide range of rank volatility when they payer had a low number of games played. People would exploit this volatility with new accounts in order to spike into 50, but ultimately fall into the mid 40s and/or sell their account. Due to the nature of the ranking system, the “50” and General symbol was always displayed, despite the player not actually being able to hold a rank of 50. This created a rank misnomer, and made the competitive space inaccurate. The only real 50’s in Halo 3 were the people actually ranked 50 and continuously held a 50. NOT the absurd pile of players who bought an account or exploited the ranking process. Displaying a “highest rank achieved 50” =/= being a 50.
Halo 5’s ranking process is not without some flaws. But… its so much better then the old 1-50 generic rank.

You never had to rank up 45 levels for competitive play. You just had to play in the Hardcore playlists, or MLG playlists.
