to play with laggy people in other countries game after game, but not be able to leave these for fear of being banned for leaving too much?
Why can’t we get a simple search preference of at least our own country?

Because 343i is incompetent and couldn’t build a game off of assets that already included such features.
The first step to your liberation is to understand that no one is forcing you to do anything.
It sucks, I know.
Play something else, and perhaps come back if they fix the issue.
I spend 60 bucks on this thing, I shouldn’t have to go play something else and wait for an “if they fix it”. Console games having a search preference has been a standard for a while now, so it’s not so much to ask for a AAA title.
It’s horrible, I know.

Since Halo 4 came out I’ve had the chance to play lots of other games because I too cannot not the multiplayer. Take my advice amd stop playing, it’s too frustrating
So then lets all not buy the next one?
I do play other games, but I want to be able to play games that I paid for, I paid for this I want to be able to play.

For us international gamers, Halo is dead. Don’t worry, it’s a grieving process. You’re in stage 2, anger. I’m at stage 5, acceptance.
Basically I should have stuck to my guns and not bought another halo game, I was doing so good since 3.

Well this is basically the first Halo where you are not really forced to stay in red bar games since there is JIP. Besides it takes a ton of matches of you quitting before you get the 1h ban, unlike Halo Reach where it was about a handfull of quits to get the 10 min ban and you then had the quit probation for a given time and in Halo 3 you lost XP from every quit.
My tip for you is to press X to bring up Roster, the top player in the Roster lobby will be host for that game. So check where he/she comes from in their profile and if you dont like what you see then leave before the match starts. (dont vote for a map and you can leave the lobby).
Do note that since this is Halo you will still get games with bad connection even on a host really close to you.
I haven’t got banned yet, but I know people who keep connecting to Australia Mexico and Canada that have and I find it limited.
I shouldn’t have to go through the process of finding out who is where, the game should just not put me with people in other countries or better yet allow me to set search preferences.
Do people in USA have worse connection with Canada than people in Europe? I live in Poland (middle of Europe, and far-east of european map of Halo’s online traffic) and I don’t see difference between playing with people form USA or Canada or with people from Europe. When it lags, it lags, when it’s ok, it’s ok. There’s sure lots of lags in Halo 4 comparing to other games, but I think it has more to do with it’s net system, not connections per se.

None of the Halo games have ever had a local search filter. I know this, because I’ve been asking for such a feature since Halo 3’s crappy netcode and lack of hitscan/rubbish melee system making the lag that much worse. And we still didn’t get one in Reach (although I’ll admit that the netcode was better). So if you think not having a local search filter makes a game designer “incompetent”, I think Bungie deserves to share the blame on that one.
Far more noticeable when someone else in another country is in the game
I’m from Australia and I played with multiple Germans, a couple of Irish, French, Netherlands, South Africans, Mexicans, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Indian and dozens of United States and United Kingdom players. I only seem to be playing with a couple of Aussies every time I end up playing for any amount of time.
Not to mention I play at my prime time at around four to nine PM. It’s beyond a joke.
> Far more noticeable when someone else in another country is in the game
I still prefer to play with people from another part of the world, than play with just 3 people from my country. Halo outside USA is as popular as FIFA in the USA. Probably even less since it’s Xbox exclusive.
However I do HATE lags. 343i should do something (other than local filter) to improve this.
It makes no sense at all
Well that’s more of a forced by your own location rather than just because of the netcode, which is still a factor.
