Why Master Chief NEEDS to go…and why Jerome NEEDS to stay

If he was put as the leader it might make more sense? But in the books, there is one thing they seem to make pretty clear; Buck is really good at getting the job done no matter the situation or the stakes. New Blood and Bad Blood I suppose is the best at showing that, ODST was too (as a game).

But yeah I get it, other than being Nathan Fillion and another gun, the only other reason you could possibly think is because he’s a recognizable face that people liked.

Soldiers like the master chief dont retire! They keep fighting till they die!

I think it would be crazy for them to kill off one of the most loved game characters of all time and for Microsoft to kill off there main mascot!

The backlash would be unbelievable! The problem isnt master chiefs character has ran out of story or is no longer fresh to us its the way 343 write there stories and characters! Thats the problem! 343!

They have no idea what there doing and they are killing the halo franchise slowly and painfully i wish microsoft would just get another studio to take over the halo franchise and bring some life back into it and make them as great as they once were!

Its gunna take more than some semi open world ring for halo to get back to its roots!

Halo 2’s story is the best in the series and making Arbitar playable was praised after the initial childish outburst. I think its you that doesn’t know what they’re talking about, but okay

That’s a tall order. Why dont I revive iron man and make captain America young again.

That is a pretty good idea if they still have that time machine and about to start talking about the MCU in the halo forums that is something I never thought would happen.

Funny coincidence but I think Captain America is a perfect example of how Halo can move on from John-117’s story in future.

Jerome is the perfect replacement story wise for sure. He has his own team, his own AI and his own roster of supporting characters to draw from. He is the leader of Red Team, to parallel John being the leader of Blue team. He’s badass and doesn’t have a compromised public image like the likes of Palmer & Locke do. Jerome & Fred are the only 2 Spartans that could feasibly take John’s place in this way, and I definitely think of the two I’d prefer Jerome.

But furthermore, Master Chief is a rank, a title. If the spirit of fire roster was brought into a future story I could definitely see a team up between John & Red team (perfect 4-man for campaign coop), and I can feasibly see that ending with John sacrificing himself in some way (not necessarily lethally, perhaps just MIA), resulting in Jerome taking up the mantle of the Master Chief, both militarily by receiving the actual rank, and symbolically as if “the world needs a Master Chief”, in the same way the Captain America title has been handed down.

Also practically speaking, this gives Steve Downes an exit strategy if he ever plans to retire. Plus, Jerome was in cryo for like 28+ years, so he’s also perfect when the Master Chief himself needs to retire. The timeline both in game & IRL keeps moving forward, it’s gonna be weird having an 80 yer old chief running around!

this is exactly what i was thinking too and commented in another post, i played halo infinite campaign and this is the end for me, the master chief fought so many battles and he did it for so many reasons, gave everything he could, after halo 3, all the fight was over and the war was gone, it was ended, then halo 4 came, ok , a story years later , drifted in galaxy and on a remote planet, but now it looks like he continues to keep doing the same things for again and again, what is the point fighting then? it keeps going on and on and it never ends, i had also expected this part would be the end, i wont spoil anything here for those new to infinite but if you see the end, its time to move to another world, jerome indeed is very cool, halo wars and 2 are really incredible, actually my favorite halo parts, when i played halo wars 2 after years after playing part one, i couldnt believe how awesome it was, it kinda dissapoint me that master chief his story never ends, so he keeps fighting on for nothing because nothing will change and it will always be war. jerome/red team/spirit of fire their story on the other hand is incredible awesome, they do fight for everything, because if they win a war it changes things, and they loss and suffer A LOT, which i think their story is really making and giving a sparkling aura, but for me as i read before, halo 4 was the end of the halo era, with sure this one, infinite, its very cool to have the last part of the master chief his story walking on a cool and beautiful halo ring, so this is really the end for me, next to this halo wars is really a story that lives and lived and makes impressions, im very happy with that part, also a part that is really about the story and not a cash grab, when i started playimg halo wars 2 on my new series x i tought wooow this is unimaginable, unbelievable!!! i like it sooo much, after playing halo wars for so long and still play it, the story is really good

i tought exact the same, the story and so long war and sacrifices ended at halo 3, it was over, then after years he floats in space and he find him self at a remote island, then that but after halo 4? it keeps going on and then we realize the fighting all makes no sense, it just ended and for me infinite is the very last one, halo wars and 2 are really good and incredible stories, like odst and reach are, and halo 1 2 and 3 of course and maybe a part 4, i dont like the behavior of the infinite crew tough, acting like, shoot some covies, pop the bullets and blabla like its a mc donalds play room, its a WAR, people die and they can die too
