If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Halo Infinite, it was that 343 missed so many perfect opportunities.
-Now I won’t go into detail about them all, but one bugs the crap out of me. Master Chief’s story won’t end. 343 wants to milk that cow until it dies. I thought that Halo Infinite would have been the PERFECT tie off for his arc but 343 fell back into the trope. The trope is that they want Master Chief to live in the same moment through every Halo game.
-The part of his life that was copied off of Bungies Halo Trilogy. The Trilogy did his plot right. He went on a crazy adventure with highs and lows. He learned things and refers back to them. I like to think of the Trilogy as the Cortana-Chief story. It was the story that only spanned a year or two.
-Master Chief was with blue team before then. On missions with his friends and companions carrying out ONIs orders. But when Halo 4 and 5 decided to revive all that in the most unflattering way possible.
-Now I won’t go into detail on that either, only on how it affects Halo Infinite. Halo Infinite has been the most promising campaign ever made by 343. Its nostalgic in the way the Mandalorian is. (Analogy) I say this because in Star Wars we had just gotten the last sequel and we’re very unhappy with it, so Disney/Star Wars decided to make the Mandalorian which held references and Easter eggs from the original Trilogy.
- Now compare that to Halo Infinite. It makes sense doesn’t it? Anyways, Halo Infinite has the most promise. But I had hoped they’d use this opportunity to tie off Chiefs story.
- Before Halo Infinite they’d already introduced the most promising suitor for Master Chiefs spot. No I don’t mean Locke. I’m talking about Jerome.
-Jerome so far is the most like Chief, yet still original and lovable. He is the top 3 most loved Spartans in the Halo Community (I know because I made a poll).
-Jerome is a Bad*** and funny at times too. He also looks a lot like Chief too. We know that he was also an Original Spartan II like Chief and led Red Team. He has his own special AI (Isabel) and his own Captain Keyes (Captain Cutter). He also has his own Fireteam.
- In Halo Wars 2 I got vibes that he would come into play at some point in Halo Infinite. Especially from the hidden mid-credit cutscene from Halo Infinite where they find a UNSC signal coming to them. It’s very likely to be the Spirit of Fire. If not then who else? Everyone else has been killed off screen or written off.
- Anyways Jerome and Chief are very similar and very different at the same time.
-Master Chief’s character keeps getting butchered and butchered as 343 attempts to keep him in the same state of being. It’s time to leave him alone. I think he needs to either die or retire. BUT NOT IN A CRAP WAY.
- No if my childhood hero dies, and he needs to, he needs to die well. His death/final battle needs to be perfect and if it isn’t and if you keep him alive for another 5+ games you will let down anyone who hoped for a Hero to have a Hero’s death.
- Now if you have him retire, make it peaceful. Tie off or finish the Reclaimer arc and emphasize the Jerome arc. He is the best candidate for Chiefs spot. Pleas do this right 343.
Holy wall of text.
No spacing or paragraphing?
OP, I recommend that you edit your post to have paragraphing. Barely anyone has the attention-span to read a wall of text. Hence why only 10% of people actually read the Halo Novels and understand the full context of the story.
Allow me to be the first to make an actual relevant post for you. Halo Wars characters definitely need to be followed up on.
This is true.
But OP is advocating that Jerome takes John’s place.
Which is just wrong.
Instead Jerome and John should meet up after all these long years and kick butt together in a mini-DLC campaign for Halo Infinite or Halo Wars 2.
They tried this with arbiter it didn’t work. Like the first time they killed cortana? Don’t know what you are talking about homie sounds a little like you don’t know what you are talking about.
Chief can retire it’s okay.
He can retire when the series is concluded.
The series has long been concluded. Like after Halo 3.
Agreed.
But Frank O’Connor had to shake the pot.
And Brian Reed popped a squat over the pot.
And thankfully finally someone is making us the gumbo we wanted, but we still have the atrocities of what happened to the previous pot fresh in our minds; wondering how well they scrubbed that pot clean before making a fresh batch.
And there’s still residue. They need to clean it up before they contaminate this pot.
They’re trying.
It’s not their fault they were born with stick arms that have no muscle. Got no elbow to grease either.
Whose jerome?
Lol ok u need to watch halo wars 1-2 cutscenes
Lol. Yeah this analogy gets better and better. And it makes sense, surprisingly.
Spartan Jerome-S092
Prominent in the Halo Wars Games alongside Alice-S130 and Douglas-S042 as a member of Red Team and commander of Omega Team as well, which is comprised of Leon-S011, Robert-S025, and August-S099
I want this story to move beyond John.
and the only reason people want Jerome is because he’s another Spartan II.
Someone new should take over.
Last time they tried that, the game failed.
Halo 5 was terrible. And Halo is a story with John at its center.
What if Harry Potter was no longer the main character after Book 6 and someone else took over for the last book?
What if suddenly instead of Mario, it was Waluigi who became the star of the franchise?
What about Link suddenly being upstaged by some guy named Gary?
Main Characters are part of the iconography and recognition of a series.
Continuing a series after a main-character leaves is practically impossible.
The only ones I know who have done this is the production behind Dr. Who. The original actor developed a fatal illness and they came up with a solution to ensure the show goes on : Regenration. Dr. Who was a strange and zaney show, and due to those themes of exploration and crazy adventures; the solution worked wonderfully.
Chief doesn’t need to die or retire. I’m fine with him always being the face of Halo, but they could always just focus on other characters rather than killing him off. Think of Reach, Halo Wars, ODST etc. They don’t have chief but they haven’t killed him off. Just give him more of a backseat if they really have to remove him.
I hope you don’t mean someone like Locke. Jerome’s arc has. Literally just begun. He just got a specialized AI and a hood plot or two. Lockes story is and better be over. They killed him off off screen.
