Why it DOES matter that 343i Changed the Grunts.

Many people are ignoring what is actually wrong with the design of the Grunts in Halo 4, saying that it’s just artistic interpretation and that the only reason some people don’t like it is because it’s different. I’ve made an infographic to try and explain this to you guys.

You have permission to use this infographic when ever you want, in fact I encourage it. Please spread the word.

I want 343 to notice that they made a mistake and just saying it doesn’t matter isn’t going to help.

If you don’t care about Halo’s canon or consistency then please do not say this doesn’t matter because it doesn’t affect gameplay. Halo is more than just a game, it is an incredibly rich and deep universe and should be treated as such. If you don’t care that they look different in Halo 4 then why should you care if 343 changes their appearance to fall more in line with established canon before the game comes out?

EDIT:For those wanting confirmation that Grunts are Arthropods with out having to read a book:here.

Good, you took my advice. Hopefully people will understand

I understand what you are saying, but why does it affect gameplay? The grunts are still there, and considering all of the complaining that has been done, I can imagine 343i changing the grunts back for Halo 5. Even if this does not happen, the “grunts” are still in the game. It isn’t as if 343i completely removed them.

It’s not a big deal, and people just can never be satisfied. Who cares if they look different? If I can still shoot them in the face and confetti pops out, I’ll be fine.

Is it so important how they look like? u dont see them close up in a fight. These chnages are necessary because its a new game. U dont like the new MC armour as well???

I just hope this game is more about forerunners than the covenant.
Don’t get me wrong I love me some beating down of grunts and elites.
I just want to see some forerunners as from the books they sound BA

Although I think it’s cool they have made both elites and grunts more alien again.

You do realise that the picture isnt necesarrily an in game rendering right? It could just be concept art or a base plain that they are working off of.

Nothing has been confirmed that this is the in game model.

> It’s not a big deal, and people just can never be satisfied. Who cares if they look different? If I can still shoot them in the face and confetti pops out, I’ll be fine.

This isn’t complaining for the sake of complaining. As I said before, if 343i gave elites fur, you would rage like everyone else. The problem was that not many people know that Grunts are similar to arthopods and it can hardly be seen in game since they are so small and only zooming up on their unarmormed parts will show their true essence. Like Thunder said in his infographic, giving Grunts reptile skin is like making brutes amphibian. It’s just not right and disrespectful to established canon. Plus, it was much better and more unique anyway. I admit, I like the new design, but Grunts are arthopods, and these things ARE NOT. Therefore, these things ARE NOT TRUE GRUNTS.

It’s not going to matter to everyone and it doesn’t have to BUT for those with a keen interest in the canon, the new design contradicts what we have learnt about the grunts over the last ten years. They now appear to be reptilian, like minature Elites (even the skin colour is the same), in the past they always had an exoskeleton. Various materials elaborated on them further. It’s fine if 343 wants them to look more intimidating and less likeable, but they could have done this without changing what the Unggoy species is. Again, you don’t have to care, but there’s nothing wrong with long time fans wanting some consistency.

Please don’t fool yourself. Also, a screen of a Grunt and an Elite flying of in an explosion was shown in the GI article which was clearly in game and the Grunt’s skin was even more apparent than it is in this model.

Please read the infographic before you go all pretentious. This isn’t another change-hating thread. I happen to love MC’s new armor BTW.

Thats true. But has it actually been fully confrimed that they have changed from an Exoskeleton to an endoskeleton?

This is the exact reason that “leaks” are bad.
People take everything too literally.

it’s called CONCEPT ART:

Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and/or mood for use in films, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put into the final product. Concept art is also referred to as visual development and/or concept design. This term can also be applied to retail design, set design, fashion design and architectural design.

No but if they come out and say it’s an Exoskeleton it wont solve the problem. The texture is clearly skin. It hangs loose like skin and lacks the necessary properties of an Exoskeleton.

Halo is not just a game, it’s a universe. The gameplay is not the only thing that matters in something like Halo.

> Is it so important how they look like? u dont see them close up in a fight. These chnages are necessary because its a new game. U dont like the new MC armour as well???

How are these changes necessary? It goes against all known canon. When the author of canon doesn’t follow his own canon, something is wrong. It is important because it doesn’t just change how they look, but it changes their anatomy. While this may not be important to some people, it is very important to others. How can a creature that has an exoskeleton change into a creature with an endoskeleton?

Also, changing MC’s suit doesn’t bother me.

  1. It’s not a leak. It’s an officially released image.

  2. This is what we call a render. An image of the model use in game. It shows the model as it appears in game at this point in time. Yes, it does have the potential to change but at this time, this is what the Grunts look like.

First off, it’s not a leak, these renders have been officially released.
Secondly it is not concept art, it is a render of the in game model.

It bothers me that they would just change the way John’s armor looks with no real explanation. That being said it doesn’t bother me that much because it still fills the same function and I kinda like how it looks too. It’s not like they made his armor invisible so you could see his face and then just said it was always like that.
