Did 343 forget or did they just want to take it out? I mean at least add a falcon or a hornet.
Unnecessary, I guess; they already had one.
i don’t think the maps support the hornet as much as they do the banshee. the only map i see it on would be Ragnarok and thats a waste of time and money.
They gave us the hornet, but all it does is fly past you on the skyline map.
Making it tangible/drivable would be much appreciated though.
The maps aren’t really large enough to support them. I mean, disregarding Forge maps. Halo 3 and Reach both had some really big maps which were good for aerial battles. Halo 4’s maps (even the BTB maps) are generally smaller.

I would have had liked at least a few more missions or Spartan Ops chapters where we get to use the Broadsword or Pelican though.

They should however in 5 or 6 make a HUGE map in matchmaking that can support mostly vehicles and aerial combat better.
And then you hear things like 343i making spinoffs like “Halo: Bootcamp” when there are other, more important things to do like fixing Halo 4. 
Air space… We’re would they fly? What map?
Weapons sandbox. With so many plasma pistols and unsc vehicles being forced to fly so low… Will not be fun. Besides, so many sniper type weapons, incinCanon, rockets, fuel rods… Dead the moment they take off.
They just wouldn’t work very well.

They already have a Banshee on Ragnorak, so adding a matching or alternative Falcon (Reach chopper with 2 gunners) or a Hornet (Halo 3) would seem appropriate to me.
And if the Mantis’s missiles would “lock” onto air vehicles like they do in Spartan Ops and Campaign, it would make air vehicles far less dangerous to ground troops.
A good map for multiple aircraft battles would be Forge island - huge vertical and pretty decent horizontal extent too with the 3 islands. You could even have Verus games - like Mantis / Tanks Versus Falcons / Hornets / Banshee - switching sides after each turn.
I still miss the Reach Campaign where we got to do a space battle in Sabres - too bad we could never do a BTB with Sabres.

I’d be willing to bet $100 that a chunk of the community would whine and/or complain if more vehicles/aerial combat was around in matchmaking. The community on here is mostly negative. Yes 343 messed up balancing weapons and maps, but they are goong to make a epic 5 and 6 game, and hell, now a TV show!
I see them being equal to or better than Bungie by the time 6 is out.

you think the hornet would wreck ppeople left and right? really?! the mantis and banshees already do that, scrap the mantis on SOME maps and put in the Hornet, it’d love that
It’s really more of a map problem than anything else. The only maps I could think of where a Hornet/Falcon could work would probably be on Exile, Daybreak, Complex, or any of the Crimson maps. Even then, I just don’t think it would work too well.
Custom made BTB Forge Island Maps would work perfectly for UNSC Air Vehicles imo.
Too bad 343 can’t add them. My fingers are crossed for Halo 5/6 though.

I give the TV show a shot on the ground that Forward Unto Dawn was pretty awesome.
Halo 4’s Campaign was kind of pathetic compared to any game in the original trilogy, as unfortunate as that is to admit, it’s also the truth.
OT: Halo 4’s BTB maps are excessively cluttered and have little to no room for a vehicle like the Falcon or Hornet.
Pelican+ Broadsword, two perfectly usable UNSC vehicles.
Someone thought it would be cool have a mech in Halo.
On the other hand, the maps are pretty small in the sense of vehicular combat.
There is a nice one, called Infinity.
