I started playing halo way back in the beginning. Over time I have seen so much hate and vitriol between players, even on the same team! The game is a science fiction based action shooter. The fact that so many people are playing it means that we all have the same affinity for the genre in common. Lately, I have seen the level of hate escalate to scathing messages from other players well after the game is over. It’s a video game! Why is everyone taking it so seriously and taking the nastiness to a whole new level? I understand being competitive, but why get overly personal with a person because maybe he or she had a bad game or is maybe being affected by something else?
The whole new trend is hearing little kids act like there “in charge” and dropping f-bombs like an adult if you don’t take their orders. What the heck happened? It’s actually frightening to hear some of the things coming out of people’s mouths while they play this game or sit in the lobby. Boy, have things changed from way back when halo first made it’s appearance. I love the franchise in all it’s iterations but it’s getting harder and harder to have a thick skin when so many are “acting out” the way they are. It’s to the point that there is even vitriol within Spartan companies. Does anyone just want to have fun anymore? Is it just a matter of getting into a game to “vent” out frustration?
I have a pretty big number of warzone games under my belt. In analyzing my successes and failures, I have made note of certain patterns to follow. When I try and convey the strategy I have learned from great players, I get this: “shut the “F” up, I know what I’m doing” or I get: “you play your way, I’ll play mine”. Eventually, we wind up losing. During the gameplay, I get shouts and curses and the like. When we lose and get back to the lobby, I can hear “crickets”. The irony is I now read the same strategy from popular bloggers when describing the game type. So now I keep quiet… and lose. I do my best to help the team but it’s to no avail and we wind up with the loss. All-in-all, I still manage to keep my K/D above 1.8 but it still “stings” when I see the word “defeat” pop up on the screen.
Am I being too sensitive, no. I’m just typing my observations. You see, I am possibly one of the “oldest” video game players out there. I have owned and played on consoles some of you have never heard of. I also happen to work in the scientific field so I find myself being very analytical when I take the time to, well, analyze. I have a very hard and stressful job. When I get home, I actually get on the XBOX ONE to relieve the day’s stress. Now how is that for irony? So when I go through the motions of waiting in a game lobby to play with people from around the world, it’s enticing to hear all of the accents and languages through my headset. It’s also pretty cool to see how players in other countries handle certain objectives and work their way through them.
There are many different type of players. There are also many type of players to avoid. I have been fortunate to play with some hard hitters who have taught me quite a bit. For me, it’s all about learning. So win or lose, I will always learn something. My question still remains though, why is there so much hate?
This has less to do with the video game community, and more to do with the general state of the world we live in nowadays.
A lot of kids think they MLG nowadays so they get mad then shout all the big kid words.
People love to complain and be selfish.
Join a solid Spartan Company and play with them. That solves many problems

Most of it stems from people not doing any research on a subject matter before complaining.
play with your spartan company in a party. all problems solved. Me and you are different when it comes to playing. I keep my mouth shut almost all of the time because i don’t really care what my teammates are doing. The only time i ever say something is letting them know that they are taking our armory, nothing else. I do what i can to help out my team so that whether i win or lose, i am still satisfied with my own gameplay. Most of the time when i enter a game and i hear someone breathing or background noise i just mute all and never turn it on again. Worry less about your teammates, because they don’t want to be told how to enjoy the game. I’ve been lectured by to be honest, complete garbage can of players in warzone while i am at 24 kills and 4 deaths and they are a solid 3 kills, didn’t bother me at all because in the end i enjoyed the game. Try not to sweat these guys, enjoy the game as best you can as a solo player or play with a fireteam in a party.
Because aiming in this game is crap, story is the most inconsistent ever and will never be explained, and I’m going to wait for a review of Halo 6 first before I even buy it.
I know it may seem hard to understand, but, and pay close attention to me here, there are people here who are not so happy with the game, they are complaining because the game did not live up to their expectations, and they are just trying to help make the game live up to the expectations created by its predecessors. If you like the game and don’t like the criticism, don’t go into threads that are obviously going to be about criticizing or complaining about the game. Or better yet, don’t go onto Waypoint at all. If you enjoy the game so much, then why are you wasting time complaining about the complainers when you could be playing the game?

I’m a long time fan; been playing since day one of C. E. and I think 5 is the best multi-player thus far. I haven’t had this much fun playing Halo for a long time.

Nope. I play this one casual and have a blast, Just like I did with all the other Halos.

He was talking about hate in-game between players, not about towards the game itself. You’d know if you read at least PART of the post.

Same here, been playing since CE and I love H5. This game is my go to game for when I get home from work and need to relax.
