Not being able to talk to friends until you are actually in or loading a game just doesn’t make sense. You should be able to talk to your fireteam while navigating the menus to decide which gametype you want to play, be able to tell your friends to wait a moment while you sell or buy some REQ cards and so on. Not being able to talk to your fireteam outside of matches is just making it even more likely that people are going to sit in party chat instead of using the in-game voice chat.
Shouldn’t you just invite them to a XBL party instead of the open mic?
Shouldn’t the lobby chat just not be broken? I’m sure the devs know it doesn’t work and are working to fix it.

This is the most frustrating thing with the game so far. If I’m in a group, we prefer to be in game chat so we can hear other players. When I play solo, people are often surprised to hear another person using a mic since everyone is using XBOne’s party chat feature to get around this problem. I can’t think of an issue in this game that is anywhere near as high priority as fixing this should be.
