Why is there friendly fire in every Halo game

In every Halo game ever made there is friendly fire it is annoying I mean really i was in a multiplayer matchmaking game yesterday on Halo Reach and I randomly shot a fuel rod at the ground so it bounced of the ground and went into mid-air and my teammate was jet-packing and he got in front of my shot and boom I betrayed him on accident and i get booted in 0.500 seconds. I think that in Halo 4 that there should be no friendly fire. Does anybody else agree with me on this?

Justice ?

Nope. It (mostly) stops people from running around randomly firing rockets and throwing grenades…

It makes the game better.

Because it makes the game more fun.

Yes, they need to turn friendly fire off.

Stop killing your friends.

Idiots should be punished for shooting team mates.

If there was no friendly fire you could just spam rockets and grenades at your teammates as they charge in on the enemy. Its just the better of two evils.

Pay attention to your surroundings before shooting explosives?

it forces the players to be aware of their surroundings.

Friendly fire in Halo games seems to promote intelligent and tactical playstyles. Rather than spam grenades everywhere when a teammate is going in with a shotgun to kill an enemy, the player needs to save them for a smarter time to use them. Let’s be honest here, you would be more frustrated if your teammates would always steal your kills with Rocket Launchers, Banshees or tanks than occasionally being betrayed or betraying.

Friendly fire also helps distinguish good team players from lesser players, ranking them differently. If there was no friendly fire, you would often get stuck with players who don’t play as well with others. Do you really want to be matched up with a guy who would annoy you and get in your way? Or do you want to play with good people?

There’s also the argument of “it’s more realistic”, but I won’t get into that, since I believe that gameplay is more important than realism. In this case, friendly fire is a good thing.

its simple. its a way to get you to be careful about what you are doing and use some STRATEGY when using… you know… high explosives…

Friendly fire is one of the things that make Halo what it is. However, rather than turn it off, certain playlists should adopt the damage ricochet effect so when you hit a teammate, you get injured/killed and not them. This would be good for ranked matches.

Friendly fire is the one thing that I’ll rage about if its taken out. I hate how so many games nowadays have to take it out to cater to the cry babies.

This is war and guns are dangerous. There are consequences.

Halo would be much better with friendly fire off.

No longer will you have to put up with -Yoink!- teammates who will betray you for your Sniper (and ordnance, calling it now). No longer will you have to put up with kids who purposely shoot you when you’re one shot for “fun.” Really, the list could go on.

Friendly fire is quite ridiculous, other than the few awesome/truly accidental betrayals you get…which ultimately results in the boot – yay. That whole ‘grenade spam’ excuse is completely invalid now in Halo 4, since one can’t pick up an opponent’s grenades without a special perk.

No

Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be plenty of playlists without friendly fire in H5.

Thats why the damage meter/boot system is in place. Your bound to get a bad team of randoms every so often, no ammount of change will end that.

they just need to tweak the betrayal system to where if a team mate shoots you while you are one shot he gets a betrayal and you can boot him instead of giving the other guy the kill, so trolls can be semi cut down. and removing friendly fire would take out a large aspect of the skill that is required to play halo. If you get shot in the back/back of the head by ANY power weapon, you are dead no matter who pulls the trigger. especially if its explosive. and sure there is the occasional misfire of a teammate behind you while you are fighting some one. but that should teach you to not walk into battle in a straight line. more importantly be aware of your teammates position and keep the enemy between you and your teammates. no friendly fire = total noobfest.
