why is there a lot of necrobumping going on today?

so far i counted that three one+ year old dead posts being necrobumped are people too lazy to make a post?

It’s possible people are responding to threads they find via Google search. I accidentally bumped an old thread a few weeks ago. I had two browser tabs open, but responded to the wrong topic.

I think necrobumping should be allowed in the forums for older games. It makes sense that people have similar problems and seek solutions via the internet, and that a Waypoint thread would pop up. It’s just kinda sucky that the thread gets locked because someone’s seeking help for an older topic.

From what I’ve observed from my time on Waypoint, both as a regular user and a mod, very few bumped topics need to be revived. Most have recent topics with more relevant and up to date information. Generally with older topics you’ll find that a lot has changed since the topic was made. Also people tend to miss dates, so they see a title, read the OP and then reply based on something that’s not an issue any more.

Personally I would recommend creating a new topic for discussion or for reporting an issue and perhaps link to an older thread if necessary, preserves the older conversations and adds a little context. This especially for bugs / support issues - bumped replies rarely deal with exactly the same issues and as I noted above the issue could be fixed already.

I do agree that the majority of necrothreads do not need to be revived, and I totally get that. Is there some way to auto-lock a topic that hasn’t been posted in for six months - one year? That would make the most sense to me, even if it were a simple programming update (and save forum mods time in not having to lock down old topics).

I think if it’s a legitimate question (NAT rating for example), it could be allowed, especially for people who aren’t regular forum members who are just looking to play Halo efficiently by using Google to solve their problem. Having these forums be the place where people come to solve their problems, even with older Halo games is kind of a good thing.

Might be something that’s been passed on already (I only became a monitor a few months ago), but sure it’s something I can forward on for consideration. Always welcome to make a thread in Waypoint support for bug reports / feature requests. I know some of the devs generally prod that area and respond to issues
