Why is the plasma pistol a power weapon???
The thing cant even kill and has the worst ammo count in history of Halo when charging and firing single shots. Its variants don’t help and the only time I need it is when I want to die while unsuccessfully trying to noob combo or am out of grenade launchers and there is a vehicle near by.
What are your guys thoughts on this?
In Halo 5, 343 used the principle of classifying between Loadout and Power Weapon based on how to obtain the weapon through the req system. Due to this, it’s pretty natural that there exist a big discrepancy between different “Power Weapons” and this do especially apply when all of the standard Covenant and Promethean weapons fall into this classification.

The fully charged plasma pistol shot has a tracking effect and will instantly drop shields, and stun vechiles It’s weak but it’s still a “power weapon”

But the tracking is very limited and using a grenade launcher would do damage and EMP the vehicle

Halo 4 had it as a loadout weapon and it completely ruined a major aspect of BTB. The utility it provides in both shield draining and EMP absolutely makes it a power weapon.
It’s cost in Warzone make it a very early unlock, and in the right hands it is fantastic. The tracking gives it a longer effective range than the Grenade launcher and the variants only help with that.
The Plasma Pistol has always been some sort of utility weapon since Halo: CE (hence, it was only good for its alternate fire mode: the EMP shot that affects enemy shields as well as vehicles).
In Halo 5 though, out of the three Req variants you have, the only good (or at least somewhat decent) Plasma Pistol out of them all is the Void’s Tear. It has high damage per shot, an absolutely heavy projectile magnetism, and twice the ammo charge to spare than the other two Plasma Pistol variants before it, and not to mention its overcharge vortex rounds that effectively stun lock enemies and vehicles. If you can tap the trigger at a specific rate (4 or 5 times per second), you can maximize its rate of fire (without slowing the weapon down if you tap any faster than that for whatever reason) and do quite a bit damage with it at close to mid range.
All very good points made in this thread. I would also add that in the hands of a skilled player the Plasma Pistol becomes absolutely deadly when doing the Noob Combo.
It has a homing projectile when within RRR, and reduces the enemy to one shot. Paired with a precision weapon it can swing fights. If you have teammates you can effectively turn their opponents one shot if you don’t try to finish just pop shields. It is an effective weapon.
I must be the only one who uses the plasma pistol’s primary fire mode almost exclusively as I do not particularly care for the cheap headshot combo, or even precision weapons in general. I feel as though it could actually stand a chance at winning battles, but unfortunately, since the magnum is the only weapon that exists in Halo 5 multiplayer, it’s just not possible. If only the plasma pistol’s fire rate was a little higher…

Point made, but why the small ammo count?
It doesn’t make sense.

Glad I’m not the only one who remembers that. I think the plasma pistol as a low level req worked in H5 although the short lived battery was a bummer.

Why do the variants have a req level cost of 4?-at the time you can get whiplashes and railguns!
Never really played halo 4 until last year and I can see your point-way too much ammo and way too much POWER. Isn’t warzone technically BTB? So why don’t people have a problem with.
