Why is the Oddball a two-hit kill?

I just wrote a paragraph about why I don’t like this change but then I read it back and even I got bored so I’ll keep it brief

Having the Oddball be a two-hit kill completely negates any defense the ball holder had and forces you to put faith in your teammates, in a ranked playlist this isn’t really an issue but in social it’s just …chaotic, almost like you’re being forced to play like you would in a ranked environment, always on your toes, in a social playlist I’d much prefer a little less stress.

Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk

It’s the same with the flag. It damn sucks. You can now beat the carrier in a melee fight.

Same with the flag, I literally shouted WHAT?! at my screen when i punched a guy with the oddball and he didn’t die.
Like this is a core thing established in every single Halo game to date…why on earth would you change it, gives you literally no defensive options as a carrier.

I suspect 343’s response will be something like “it’s designed to make squad play more important”… but it’s just wrong to change such a base and established feature.

Also you’re still defenceless at distance, and half the skill is drawing enemies in so you can 1 hit kill them, that’s their fault for getting to close to a carrier when they can take you out at distance should they want.

I’m OK with removing flag juggling, that was always something of a “glitch” that gave a distinct advantage to skilled players, while newer ones couldn’t do it.

In one of the trailers, a spartan smacks another spartan with the Oddball and they’re sent rag dolling several feet in one hit.

I need that in my life.

I’ve got a “play a game of oddball” challenge I’ve played close to 25 games…haven’t had a single game of oddball yet

Haha, thanks for saving us from your original post.
I’m on the fence about the flag melee, but I vehemently agree that oddball should be one hit kill. I don’t care if it is a faster animation. Slow it back down and make it one hit. Now carrying the ball is even more of a death sentence.

Was going to ask this same question. I thought it used to be one hit and I’m not crazy. Really made it hard to defend in a social playlist where there’s no comms. Same goes for FC. That was the 1 advantage you got.

As a Swat player, I too, support one-hit kill Oddballs and Flags.

Same for me but with Control, these challenges suck (っ °Д °;)っ

yeah now you can rush the oddball guy instead of halo 3 where killing the oddball was a challenge since he could one hit. (same for the flag)

Yeh this is bizarre. I have no clue who’s balancing infinite at moment but feel like there not doing a good job. Things like flag/oddball should be 1 hit kill. I feel like the only way this will get fixed is in custom games until 343i sort this out themselves. :frowning:

I like the normal melee damage in Oddball. It makes it more challenging and rewarding to get those melee kills.

It would be really difficult to get the ball back from a good team on maps like Recharge if the carrier can kill with a single hit.

Completely agree, there is no advantage on being a carry player if this continues to be.

Mercilessly beating people to death with the objective is a big part of what made those modes fun in Halo. Without the one-hit melee, I just feel like a target with no real options, especially on CTF.

343 said this issue with the flag is a conflicted one, but I do not see anyone in favor of it.

So… try less??? I go to quick play for challenges and to play any way I want, just don’t play to win lol. Being able to one shot anyone who get’s close to you isn’t gonna make you tryhard less.

Yeah idk who’s “big brain” thought it was a good idea but being a carrier now just sucks all the fun out of it since the carrier at least had a fighting chance that didn’t involve dropping the item. Even splitgate kept the one hit kill on their game.

It must be one hit kill in with the oddball and the flag

You get a faster melee to compensate for that.

Perfect way to sum up 343’s entire apparant philosophy of matchmaking design. It’s like they can’t comprehend that anyone would just want to play for fun without sweating.
