why is the night vision only in odst?

i think it would be dope in all halos and multiplayer too!!!

It would be nice to have, it would add a different environment to dark multiplayer maps.

the reason it was in ODST would most likely be the fact that it takes place mainly at nighttime,
it was also in reach though but you didn’t really need it that much

I was thinking that maybe it’s because in ODST you play as a regular human but in the rest of the games you’re a Spartan and have enhanced vision. But there’s night vision in Halo Reach soooo… that blew my theory to bits. Maybe in Halo 4 we’ll see an exchange of the codpiece for night vision lol

Halo CE has it. Reach has it.

There aren’t any Dark maps in Halo that anyone would need night-vison for

Not quite. The night vision in H:CE only works if you turn on the flashlight while scoped in with the sniper rifle, and it’s actually quite different to the VISR since it doesn’t have friend/foe identification and generally looks rather different.

And the night vision in Reach is just pure garbage. I mean, state-of-the-art night vision gear TODAY provides a better and far less grainy picture than the one in Reach.

Also, there are a few dark-ish maps in other Halo games, i.e. not in ODST, where night vision comes in handy. You don’t really need it per se, but it makes things easier.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned that ODST doesn’t have a Nightvision mode, it has VISR.

Halo: Reach has Nightvision but only in Campaign & Firefight.

well VISR adds a pseudo-nightvision as one of its features so its still nightvision its just not the only thing is provides (the only reason I say pseudo is its not all green and stuff its just a much brighter picture.

This.

Reach’s night vision was only good on startup, barely.

probably because in odst your a normal human soldier. in reach your a spartan III so enhanced vision. in the other halos your a spartan II and they can pretty much see in the dark a LOT better than humans normally can. they did something to improve their eyesight during their augmentation. i think it was increased bloodflow to the cons/rods. its been years since i read Fall of Reach so don’t remember exactly. hahaha

Night Vision is in Halo: Reach. VISR mode is in ODST and only ODST because the ODST Marines are the only soldiers with that equipment. Not even the Spartans have it.

It’s in Reach too but it’s more traditional than the VISR. You can use it in FF and Campaign. First time you activate it (usually) is inside the comms station on Winter Contingency.

/thread.

In a sense it is and isn’t. In Reach all it does it makes your targets green, along with everything else that’s around the target too. Night vision in Reach sucks. They should have stuck with VISR since it worked so well.

IDK its cool to have I agree.

VISR? not Night vision.

Reach does have night vision.

The MJOLNIR suit is more than capable of seeing non-visible electromagnetism and displaying it in visible interpretations.

Spartans have a minor capability with organic night vision.

I feel a suit attached to STARS or an AI should be able to display what VISR does more reliably than VISR does.

That the Chief has never used more of his suit’s capabilities is by game-play restraints only. True MJOLNIR suit use is akin to MechWarrior2’s enhanced battle-mode plus Arkham Asylum’s detective-mode plus a little GRAW.
