Can anybody explain why the passenger sits facing backwards
Just made it so you’re not rubbing against the driver and just for a new look.
Because it’s easier than breaking your spine everytime an enemy is behind you.
Not much of a disadvantage still works the same just looks different.

Lol yea
Now you need to break your spine when a enemy is in front of the mongoose

Much more convenient, don’t you think?
IMO, it might’ve been better looking “Chariot Style”, where the guy on the backs stands on a nearly ground-level platform.
But yeah, he sits backwards to avoid making the driver and passenger look like they’re spooning.
Edit: Now that I think about it, with the way the driver leans forward while driving, the chariot-style would’ve been much more awkward than the spooning!
Yeah… I’ve changed my mind. Sitting backwards is the way to go.
I would wager it’s because the Gungoose is a viable offensive weapon so the front is covered by the driver meaning the passenger is more likely covering the back.
New look
Have you ever ridden a real 4 wheeler double with a buddy? Yeah backwards is the way to go. It’s not just spooning, it’s legs spread with bumps and stuff. And you have to choose between wrapping your arms around him or risking death. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld would say, but backwards is better.
Its just dumb honestly, in a joking matter of speaking.
No really the Mongoose looks really ugly now and the passenger thing is just… It just looks dumb.
The Halo 3-4 Mongoose designs were just fine…
I mean the Art team of 343 to me, looks like they used ugly concepts someone drew up in the Halo encyclopaedia book thing I got. The wraith, pelican, mongoose and marines make me want to cry every time I see them… THEY ARE SO UGLY NOW!!!
It’s when you try to jump off only the jump on the back sit get me! You try to make a quick exit only to get turned into a sitting target, it’s way too easy to do the jump away!

It’s what they call a runaway gunner position , and B-52 bombers there was a forward position and a backward position , the gun goose has the forward guns while the backwards position has the ability to live unlimited grenades like a bomber . My guess is that 343 took their inspiration from this and other similarity military assault land and air vehicles . History is that thing that no one ever thinks is important , until they start looking for answers . If you look at a lot of halos vehicles , weapons , and military structures , a lot of it is borrowed from historical reference . Personally I’m enjoying the all you can lob grenade fest.
Because you are on a flimsy mongoose you are most likely to be running away from enemies more than you are chasing so it makes more sense to have the gunner facing backwards
