They came from destiny
Okay, the Halo Community has a very particular problem. This franchise is 20 years old. There are many many people in this world who are who are toxic and purists. These people also the people who are the most likely to stick around with the community over time. 343 really messed up when they started to change everything too much for two whole games. This solifified these people’s opinions on 343 and now they just stick in the community to complain. Decent people then understandable angry at them and that produces arguments that can frequently turn toxic.
Most people have a skewed view of what’s toxic.
Only thing I can say is chin up, block and move on. If you think Halo’s the worst, you’re sorely mistaken. There’s some out there worse than this but it’s never the whole communities at large. Just the vocal minority, and only one what’s truly toxic. Hopefully no one here confuses criticisms as toxicity.
If anyone does, please know that similar events play out in other games all the time. Dev releases some mediocre or non-player first stuff, community gets mad, some people who are okay with it get mad at the criticisms and tell people to stop complaining, the criticizers now get into it with the people complaining about the complaining and then we get 1,200 posts of " man this place is toxic " by those same people.
It’s like a Ferris Wheel.

Twitter is even worse, there’s no safe place for this community lmao
I miss the good old days when having a good time included hurling insults at each other that nobody really meant anything by, and the in-game tips even encouraged you to do so (lookin’ at you, Halo 2). It doesn’t help that the games these days tend to be garbo, which leads to player frustration and actual malice because they’re frustrated as hell so ripping into other players becomes an outlet valve instead of just a bit of trash talk while trying to score top frags.
You have to realize Halo has been around for a long time now and the community is huge, they took years to make this game and then delayed it for a year. Now they released is not being completed and made it so you have to pay for everything, lack of content, and they’ve changed WAY to much from the core Halo style. This is probably one of the biggest let down Halos that we have seen… I would honestly prefer to play Halo 4. I personally think 343 needs to sell the franchise to another company and let them give a go at it because ever since Bungie left the games have been a hit and miss… More of a miss.
Yeah sure, call people who have preferences toxic.
Y’all should have been here in the early 2000’s. People were dropping racial slurs and shooting scorpion tanks out of shotguns
My full and honest opinion.
Most halo players today grew up during bungie halo games. Halo 3 is a masterpiece and everything afterward is garbage and the devs dont care and its all about money.
I understand the criticism with the game, lack of content, terrible servers, MTX and what not. But I feel that halo 3 is overrated. The reason halo 3 is worshipped is because like I said, they played halo 3 when they were children. Their young and impressionable minds made unforgettable memories in the game which is reasonable, but I feel like players cherish these memories so much that they have never grown up from them. Every new halo, these players expect to feel the same excitement as they did when they were little, but that is just impossible and its not the devs fault. Those players are adults now, they are more experienced, more mature, so they cannot possibly relive the memories they made before when they were so much younger. And I think the fact that these particularly toxic players say that anyone who likes halo 4 or halo 5 must be children, supports my argument. I played halo 3 as a child as well, I remember a particular morning like it was yesterday, its snowing outside and me and my brother were just getting up for school, we were trying play a couple ODST missions before we had to go. The snow starts to get worse and school was canceled. Those kinds of moments are unforgettable but I played halo 3 when MCC came to PC, and I really cannot see why it is still the standard of halo in 2022. I see people who say the ar is op, or the sidekick is op, why? I for one love the fact that I can help and support my team with default weapons. I dont have to abandon my teammates as they push toward a zone in total control to find a usable weapon. Oh and these are the same players who think the challenge system was bad in that playing the objective is pointless. So, its like they hate players who dont play the objective, but they also hate that those players dont have to abandon you to find a good gun. The whole arena shooter argument is kind of annoying in that they use that as a way to defend default guns being 100% useless and if you cannot find a better gun you pretty much cannot contribute in the match.
Opinion.
I think the real questions are, why have people gotten so soft and incredibly easy to offend where the mere act of breathing on your mic is likely to get you scorn and mass reporting for toxic behavior?.. Banter went from a bit of fun among friends to hate crime in some countries… Esports are now safe havens of bland, boring, quiet and very safe spaces where the crowds are far more obnoxious than the players themselves…
I am from the wild west, unfiltered era of Xbox live and I am still here, alive and kicking… but these days I genuinely feel like I cannot find enjoyment from games anymore, not so much because of toxic players, but because we’re just always being told or manipulated too much on how we should play and enjoy our games online and off, and it really sucks… I’m just glad that old games still exist and are plenty playable…
Just a crusty old Geezer’s take…
All generalizations are dumb
These people want to play the same game every release cause they don’t want to change and adapt but then turn around and trash on cod for doing mostly that from year to year. So which do you want??
Really, they just want to complain. Ppl posting on reddit, on forums, on social media are the vocal minority. People that enjoy the game or have moved on aren’t usually out here posting in such places.
Do you realize that everyone recognizes that as a canned response? All those places you mentioned, you can easily find posts everyday using not only that argument, but those exact words.

Summary
Honestly the Monitors and Mods on here are equally toxic if not more toxic too. So it van definetly generate a bad taste. I think we should be able to report mods the same way we report other players or users. Plus, halo players all started at a different time and all have different ideas as to what halo should be, that can cause toxicity too. But Waypoint mods make my blood boil, you’ll do and say nothing and they will ban you because they have their feelings hurt. Watch this reply get yoinked because I’m calling out what a terrible job they do
Oh there’s like half a dozen of them
“The core gameplay is great”
“You just want to play dress up”
“Everyone is so entitled”
“You just want everything for free”
Makes me wonder if there’s a discord or something where they get together and coordinate their talking points.
Those seem awfully familiar. Maybe it’s because I am some old grumpy Bungie fanboy and stuck in the past.
I should go with the times and accept unfinished products and be thankful we got something.
