Caveat being this: the most vocal constituents typically are the minority. I have no data to prove this in Halo’s case but by and large it’s true.
My thought as to why: For those who have played Halo since the Halo 2-Reach days and “grew up” on those games, playing them during the formative years of age 10-20 or so, equate a lot of their childhood to the experiences they had with those games. As this group of people aged and changed, so did Halo.
When they experienced these changes and, for their own reasons, did not like the changes, I think some felt that the changes were “messing with” their fond memories of their favorite IP. Nostolgia is a heck of a drug both for euphoria and disappointment.
When changes were made to Halo from Reach onward it really felt like, I think to some, as a “taking away” of something that really attributed to those years and time period. When that is perceived negatively it can often cause a lot of disappointment which often leads to frustration which then can, if left unchecked, breed negativity and eventually toxicity.
Just my .02, but I think most of the “toxic” halo crowd are those who are probably mid to late twenties who have been playing Halo since the early to mid 2000s and perceive that time period as the true “golden era” and that anything post Halo Reach/Halo 4 is just an assault to that time period and what they felt then.
Again, just my .02 as a 30-year-old playing halo since 2003.
Idk something a out 343 trying to sell me the same color twice, and sell me the same.emblem 4 times and count it as 4 different items and not making the coatings universal… I mean if your going to make me pay for something at least make it universal to everything instead of locking it to one item to make it look like your giving me more content.
To say Infinite is trash is nonsense. And your ‘defense’ that anyone that disagrees is a ‘343 fanboy’ is such a lame argument. The monetization is bad, but the core gameplay is fantastic and the campaign was amazing.
Omg I laughed so hard at this. The OP has clearly never spent time in the MLG playlist on Halo 3 back when people talked on their mics still… If elitism killed games you wouldn’t be discussing this on the forum of the eighth major game in the series, because there was enough toxicity JUST in the MLG playlist to peel the paint off of your house.
I think what you fail to understand is the fundamental difference between society, and the gamer and halo player subcultures between now and then. The only reason this community seems toxic to you now, is because now when people offend someone online, the offended party writes a poem about their feelings getting hurt, and complains on social media about it.
Back when Halo was created if another player offended you, you would pray you got matched with them again, fight back as hard as you could, and bag them into oblivion while saying untrue things about their mother.
It’s boils down to the internet with the most negative voices being the loudest. I disagree with the sending of death threats to devs but 343 needs to know the -Yoink- the bed again. The frustrating part is that a majority of the gameplay is super solid. I’d even put it on the same level as 3/Reach. The problem is that either marketing or Microsoft got ahold of this game and have really screwed the pooch with all the bundles. I get there’s a certain level we have to accept with f2p but $20 for a bundle that should be $5-$10 isn’t good.
Every time the game has any major changes it creates 2 groups of people, those who like the changes and those who don’t. So the devs move forward and try to please everyone which keeps the fire burning because nobody is getting what they want, just little bits of what they want mixed with more disappointment. Every time 343 experiments with a new twist on the campaign it creates more of these angry people and brings in more new people who will later be disappointed if 343 changes it back or fails to finish the story arch…
Sorry what happen to u Sadly the majority of players playing this game are teenagers and college people. I play world of Warcraft and in my opinion is lot more toxic than the Halo community.
Define “toxic”. If it is harassment, trolling or aggressive behavior, then it is indeed toxic.
If it’s people complaining that they don’t like things, even if if the complaints aren’t always super constructive, it’s not toxicity. It’s frustrated people that refuse to jump on the consoomer hype train to bubble land.
Passion brings a lot of emotions with them. It’s human nature. As long as people refrain from toxic behavior, they have a right to be critical/pessimistic.
I’m a fan of Infinite, but lets be real here… After 6 years it had less content than Halo 2, 3, Reach and 4. The monetization gets far too much criticism, the reality is that if the game had more to do people wouldn’t be talking about it as much.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, because the game had no Co-op at launch, it hurt the game massively in terms of initial impressions/reception.
It has Infinite potential, but doesn’t come close to realizing it.
I’m sorry people feel the need to be so toxic towards you and others, But don’t let a few pricks make you feel that way about the halo community as a whole. I’d say we’re the most passionate gaming community out there, that just want infinite and halo in general to thrive and be as good as it can be.
With the game currently lacking in content and a poor battle pass/ progression system it is bringing anger and disappointment. I understand this more than anyone, but people issuing death threats etc dont speak for the rest of us. Happy holidays mate, find a team of proper halo fans, you’ll have a blast
People who unironically cry about “toxic” players tend to be more insufferable than those they accuse. Games are now a padded cell and the ability to ban players via mass reporting is in the hands of people who have the mental fragility of a thin sheet of glass is sad. Even with filters and the ability to ignore. These people still choose to get upset at words on the internet and demand people they dislike not be allowed to play period.
Boy you’re speaking facts, too many fragile people who get so irrationally angry at individuals to the point there’s actual hatred, it feels like those people don’t have any problems in their lives so they make their own problems.
