Am I the only on that thinks its a bit stupid that the community has come up with the tags “competitive” and “casual”? If you really look at it, it makes no sense. According to a good portion of the forums you are either a “competitive player” who are the only ones that have an opinion that is worth anything or you are a “casual player” meaning you have no opinion and have no understanding of the game just because you aren’t hyper competitive. That makes no sense. Looking at me for example, I enjoy winning and playing competitively, but other times I enjoy hopping into Big Team to go blow up a bunch of vehicles and players. So which category am I? I’m both or neither depending on how you look at it, because guess what? Only having 2 categories of players is idiotic and results in the community being so split up it’s hard to even call it a community. So how about we just drop the stupid tags and just talk about a game series we enjoy as fans rather than trying to one up each other?
I wish it were that simple, but I am afraid that perhaps “Social” and “Ranked” started to split the community once that was implemented. People would only play in social and so they never really grasped all of the game mechanics and everything, so the better players tried to use their lack of knowledge to claim their opinions are better.
I wish this didn’t exist, but it is the sad truth that the community is split so bad.
People want different things. there are people here who started with CE in 2001 and others who started with reach in 2011.

Perfect example of the sort of simplistic, black-and-white ‘thinking’ that’s ruining this forum.
As for why: it’s called tribal mentality, it’s an aspect of evolutionary psychology, and it’s still seen today because many people are too lazy to think logically about propositions.
I’m the same way, OP.
I enjoy winning, and I usually try to win, but sometimes I just want to mess around while having the most fun possible.
That’s why I would always play Customs back in Halo 3.
