Why is the assault rifle inaccurate?

I believe I have asked this question once before but I was not satisfied with the answer. In Halo 3 the AR was better then the BR if the BR user was unskilled. Now the DMR user wins 90% of the time, even if they are newer to the halo franchise or FPS games as a whole. So, why is the AR and other automatic weapons discriminated against? Please, tell me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that not making the AR decent has drained Reach’s overall population. I know the AR is geared towards new players, but it’s driving away new players.

Because some people vomit at the idea of pacing their shots.

Well the AR shouldn’t be so weak but it is effective at times in close quarters against the DMR. The sheer number of bullets can disorienate some players.

the ar was never more accurate or stronger than the br

I blame the wonky crosshair.

There were times when I would be killed by an ar after I unloaded more than 3 shots from my br to a guys head. Maybe the H3 engine had it that the dange a br caused decreased the closer the impact but increased the further it was, and vice versa for the ar.

You know, I gotta say? From a story perspective? Why the hell is the UNSC outfitting their Army Troopers and Marines with standard issue assault rifles that can barely dent armor, only have 32 rounds in the magazine, and have terrible accuracy?

That said, from gameplay, it actually does work wonders if the user knows how to use it. Circle strafing, ducking, burst firing, etc, and you can be extremely deadly with the AR.
