The AR isn’t gonna’ thank you for donning that shiny bright armor to come to its defense.
I’m also 29.
I don’t mind casual players, lmao. One of my two girlfriends, is casual. The other is so sweaty in games it burns her out. I only recently got into comp anyway. Hoping to hit Onyx before season 2 at least.
But y’know, targeting and singling me out because I think the AR is OP, is pretty uncalled for. You don’t even know my full opinion. I actually enjoy the AR, but understand it’s a power weapon. You want my proposed changes?
New version.
Lower RoF
Lower magazine.
Higher damage.
No headshot.
Wider spread.
Makes it very good at close range, does consistent damage wherever you hit, rewards right use at right time, still beats BR at close range like it honestly should, but isn’t getting nigh RNG faster TTKs and actually demands you pay attention to its use, like any other well balanced gun.
You don’t understand Halo’s core fundamentals if you think we only want BRs. We very much enjoy the rest of the weapons, but some are simply climbing out of their niche. I gained a LOT of respect for pro gamers and E-Sports in general, when I competed at the top tier in Star Wars: Squadrons in 2020-2021.
Changed my whole outlook. Maybe actually trying to understand the sandbox can help you.
No skill or significantly less skill is all the same to me. The reward isn’t worth the risk of using a more skillful weapon when the skillful weapon is so difficult to use and only kills very slightly faster. Missing a shot or two can cost you losing the gun fight when using the sidekick

Ignorance. It isn’t a power weapon. No matter what you type… It isn’t a power weapon.

But you still haven’t answered as to why you are attempting to PRIMARY… THE SIDEKICK.
The logic of responding honestly defeats your argument… So…

Hate it.
Too different from previous AR’s, particularly Reach’s.
Also power weapons tend to kill with extreme efficiency, the AR does not fit this role at all, since it actually requires quite a few consecutive and well aimed shots to kill, which becomes more and more difficult at ranges outside of 30-40 meters since you only get the 1.25x smart link. It’s slightly less effective than the BR in total TTK and definitely in accuracy, but has the advantage of being easier to use. That does not make it a “power weapon.” especially because of its fairly wide spread which makes it difficult to use at range. There is, in fact, a range where the AR ceases to be useful except to spray and possibly descope a sniper from far away, but it won’t be enough to kill unless the sniper is particularly stupid and just stands there.
High rate of fire good, low damage per shot good, moderate spread good, big magazine good.
AK-47 reskin not so good, starting to look more like the Commando, which could actually use a slight buff to distinguish itself from the BR.
Also every weapon has a headshot multiplier. It currently takes 3 AR shots to the head to kill an unshielded Spartan, last I checked, though this happens very quickly at short range because of the rate of fire.
There is nothing to “fix” It’s in the best spot it’s ever been in especially if you compare it to the roles of the other weapons.

Guess that means you’ve NEVER engaged enemies beyond 30 meters, then?
Because that’s when the BR or Commando start outshining the AR, and it means you are picking your own fights instead of just charging in like a psycho.
Why would anyone use it if you want it treated as a secondary? No gun should be used as a secondary weapon, the whole point of precision weapons is to reward the players using them by giving faster kill times but requiring more skill but if the gap for skill vs reward is too small then it’s simply not worth it to use the more skillful weapon.

Unless you’re a marine using an M16A4 from 12 years ago, and you’ve spent all day in the sun and sand.
Sidekick is good for poking enemies at medium-long range or finishing enemies whose shields are popped. You Can use it as your primary but that requires a lot more practice than it’s worth, since the AR and Sidekick have a similar TTK in practice unless you land every shot, rapid fire, on their heads.
You ALWAYS have a secondary. The one you don’t intend to use right away. So, in this case, usually the sidekick, since the AR is pretty versatile but struggles with precise shots.

The game is spawning you with an assault rifle and a pistol… Called… THE SIDE KICK…
Emotion is getting the best of you.

Halo plays much better when there’s a precision weapon that skill players use over the automatic, it requires more skill but it’s rewarded with a faster kill time. In Halo 3 if wasn’t an issue with AR starts because every map had a BR around every corner

Why does this AR need to have the fastest TTK, best range, and is the best at killing unshielded enemies than any other Halo? Now combine that with the worst radar, the lowest aim assist in the franchise for almost all weapons, best strafing, and a more difficult pistol and it’s easy to see how the AR is OP when it’s so much better than any other Halo AR. I know it’s to cater to the noobs that are incapable of understanding the AR’s intended role or having the skill to use a precision weapon.

You have no idea what you’re talking about and just want an easy gun. Stay in social.
You truly do not conceive balance.
Sidekick outshoots AR and BR if you’re actually good.
Similar power to a Hydra full stop.
Can you stop being an elitist please? Like seriously come on.
It’s an AR. Since when has it had a skill gap? What’s so hard about not being killed by it?

Why? So I don’t accidentally beat you with my clumsy AR skills because I often pick it up as a secondary in ranked? Lol
Luckily for you I don’t really give a damn about ranked at the moment.
The AR is not exactly an “easy gun” any more than the Sidekick, which is its intended counterpart in social matchmaking. It’s definitely easier than the plasma pistol, because the plasma pistol sucks if you’re not using it as a punch machine or shield troller. So if it’s not any easier to use than the other tier 1 weapons, and struggles to compete with the BR and sidekick at medium range, why consider changing it at all? Many of the kills I get with it are because I try to pick my own fights.
You’re still missing the point of the AR entirely. Your suggested “Balancing” defeats the purpose of the AR by causing it to under-perform its role at close range as a rapid fire alternative to using the Sidekick or Commando. By design in the sandbox, the AR should have a high rate of fire but be unreliable at longer ranges because of this.
Whenever somone uses an AR at long range, they’re usually not going to get a kill unless they are very lucky. The most they usually do is briefly annoy the target.
Yes I know. My highest damage score with the sidekick is 27,795 in the third weapon drill. Meanwhile both my BR and AR scores sit at 23k because I don’t drink Gfuel for a living.
But for the average player, and at range, the sidekick makes more sense for landing those few niche shots here and there if the target is too far for the AR. OR if you want to go on a punching spree and shoot them in the head after you punch people.
Because it’s easy and consistent.
And it lacks a lot of the little quirks that close range pickup weapons have.
Yeah the AR is way too powerful, many people are asking for a nerf but 343 doesn’t listen…
Lol I don’t get dominated by scrubs that only use the AR, if I’m losing more gunfights that I’d like to when using the sidekick I’ll just switch to the AR and win that way. Did you ever question why the AR wasn’t so powerful in previous Halo’s? It’s always been because it takes less skill to use than a precision weapon. All you sound like is a bad player that’s ignoring the fact that your weapon of choice is too powerful for the amount of skill required to use it. I don’t want the gun nerfed to oblivion but I should not be able to cleanup kills across the map with it.
I would say that it doesn’t take that much skill to use the precision weapons either. The skill level required to use many of the precision weapons in the Halo history is probably at around the same skill level required for using the AR effectively.

AR is fine. It can be beat at almost any range by a solid amount of other weapons.
