Why is the AR so good?

Load a round into the AR.

The AR takes just as much ‘skill’ as any other gun. If you’re just spraying it, you don’t know how to use it.

The higher aim assist and no head to land a headshot to be effective says otherwise.

You just sound like someone that uses the AR over the sidekick and are trying to justify your lack of skill to use a precision weapon that requires skill.

It has bonus damage for headshots. I use it to gain an advantage all the time.

If some one using the AR is constantly beating you and you are using precision weapon like the side kick… You are the noob… I have been beat A LOT by players using the sidekick when I had the AR. It seems most are just upset the AR is useful now.

Its’ really good to get noobs to play and stick around.

I have no problem winning the gunfights but I shouldn’t have to sweat my -Yoink!- to beat an AR scrub. How the hell would the average player use the sidekick when the AR is this good and requires much less skill to use?

They will instead use the Sidekick as a backup weapon in situtions where it’s clearly inappropriate to use the primary weapon (ex. when you are forced to reload).

On the other hand, one more essential aspect that distingishes skill level between different players is extensive knowledge about the maps and how the player interacts with them. It’s a massive advantage to have a deeper insight in enemy locations and there intentions.

Sidekick is brilliant and it’s my primary these days but, you need to be really bang on. A moment’s lapse and a missed shot and the ar spray will take you out. Plus the bloom effect comes into it too.

Very frustrating weapon to die to. The ar has super aim assist, it’s hard to miss it’s so strong, so you kind of know they put so much less effort into a fight than you had to.

Despite that the sidekick is in a great spot. I’ve grinded the life out of it and looking forward to grinding to Onyx when a new standard start playlist is released with it… Eventually.

See you just contradicted yourself… You say you have no problem beating the AR but in the same sentence you say you shouldn’t have to sweat to do it… That is why these AR post are so pointless… Most are just upset the AR is useful now. Most want Halo to be like a one or two gun game where just about every other gun is pointless to pick up. The AR is fine as it is IMO. If they made more maps with longer sight line and not so many maps that cater to CQC you would see the AR not be as useful.

Definitely a you problem. Movement is faster in this game. Take advantage of that and make the ar miss.

ah yes make the hitscan laser in a map with no cover miss…

aiming is a skill, and you need it to use the ar

so stop acting like the ar isn’t skillful, just cuz you latch onto the brs headshot obessed moto doesn’t mean other guns ARENT skillful

It’s good because player retention and thus money, more people to buy $20 colors. If they’re forced to actually aim, count shots and play… you know, Halo, they’ll leave. Hence why the more discussion there is on it, the less we hear.

Frankly, because casuals literally could not stop crying for it.

I hope it gets changed soon.

I must ask you a very important question.

Why wouldn’t a standard-issue UNSC rifle be good? The AR is meant to be versatile and hold its own in a close-medium range fight.
It can’t compete with precision weapons at range unless you’re just standing there taking burst fire from an expert.
It doesn’t hold up against a Mangler at close range (A tier-2 weapon)
And there are no other Tier 1 weapons that work well at the ranges the AR is meant for unless you’re a crackshot with the sidekick, which is the OTHER tier-1 weapon you spawn with.
Without other close-range automatic weapons, how else would you fill that gap? All engagements at that range would become slow and ponderous if the AR’s damage is nerfed even 5%. If anything, they could reduce its accuracy a bit. That allows it to continue excelling at close-medium range but be less lethal at medium-long.

This is the most balanced the AR has ever been. It is perfect as a starting automatic weapon that can bring down shields and spray&pray with a reasonable success rate. And the fact that it’s now finally an okay gun is somehow offensive. It has a higher skill-ceiling than previous AR’s and the same skill-floor as it’s always had, since TTK is now faster overall across all the guns.
And since you think it’s so powerful… why not just hold onto it? I’m sure your teammates will appreciate that you’re leaving Tier 2 and 3 weapons on their racks, lol.

The same argument applies to the BR.

Screw you. Halo began as a casual couch-gaming shooter and I will not hear you zoomers thinking it’s a game that’s all about precision weapons.
And if you don’t want to play with casual players, there is a ranked mode.
What’s that? You don’t like ranked mode?
Guess you’re a casual player after all.

That, I feel, was a misstep Bungie made in Halo 2 by making the BR so powerful and removing the AR and replacing it with the weak little SMG. It sent the AR into a death-spiral that almost got fixed in Reach but ultimately still fell short to every other gun including the plasma pistol.

I don’t want you “Hardcore gamers” Ruining what makes Halo unique and fun just because “Muh BR starts”
If you want precision weapons, well boy howdy there are a ton of them and they all outperform the AR at medium-long ranges.
But if you miss a BR shot at medium-close range? That’s a lot of damage you missed out on. This is how the AR wins against BRs, when you get too close and are a little too confident for your own good.

The AR is good in Halo Infinite because it has 36 bullets per mag rather than 32
