I’m genuinely confused as to why sprinting in Halo is so frowned upon, in my personal opinion it really didn’t matter either way. The other spartan abilities seem more “game-breaking/core-breaking/It’s not Halo”, but sprint gets more attention because… you run faster? I mean, you can ground-smash, slide, and freaking AIM-DOWN-SIGHTS, but running faster is more of a pressing issue? Can someone please explain without using the same stapled stuff that we’ve heard countless times?
Because of the changes it makes to gameplay. Such as maps needing to be elongated to accommodate for faster movement, or running or gunning instead of running and gunning. Personally, I think 343 has balanced it nicely so I don’t mind having it.
I think the problem is people are arguing about it because it was here first and it stops you from aiming and shooting all of the time. If sprint ever got taken away the next big issue would be the rest of the spartan abilities and not being able to shoot while using them.
However these arguments are pretty dumb as everyone has different preferences. We should be looking at trying to build a Halo for everyone with playlists for everyone. So people who like the new stuff can join matchmaking playlists and use it and people who dislike the new stuff can join matchmaking playlists and play that. Then everyone who really doesn’t care can just play both.

Or that it doesn’t contribute to what we’re there to do, shoot others, or that it changes how the game plays, or that it makes escaping generally easier, or that maps are larger in order to accommodate sprint speed meaning no true amall maps, or that it’s essentially juat the because other games do it.
Of course everyone has different preferences.
Also, a game that focuses on pleasing everyone pleases no one, or however that saying goes. The problem you face creating playlista for everyone in a game for everyone is first and foremost player dispersion. Limited players strewn out over a large amount of playlists will reault in low population in most playlists. Furthermore, which game mode are you going to support? If you make changes to your game, do you balance everything out over all the new stuff, meaning tge classic playlists will essentially watered down versions with balancing for the whole package. Or are ypu going to balance the old perfectly, throw new stuff into the new direction but not balance anything accordingly?
I’m not really fond of people who desperatley try to befriend everyone, or as many as possible.
Let the game be populated by players who are genuinley interested, don’t try make it interesting for people who weren’t interested in the first place.

All I am saying is 343 should give us the options to play the game how we want. They don’t have to cater to everyone from the off they should stick to there original vision and release the game as is. Then if they give us the tools at least it is down to the community to create there own vision for what Halo should be and play those in customs etc. If these prove popular enough they can at a later date be added to matchmaking. If you can’t agree with what I am saying in that 343 should at the very least give us the community the options to create something we like within there game, then sorry but you are part of the problem with the community and Halos decline.
Know why some players hate it? Because they were going for a kill then the other player sprinted to cover and they didn’t get the kill and that upsets them. I like sprinting in Halo it’s a mechanic I felt Halo always needed. To me it seems the players not liking any of the changes are the players who don’t care about the Halo story line at all. It also funny how the players who don’t like it won’t accept any answer of why the game should have it. It’s all matter of opinion though and you won’t convince either to change it. If you like Halo the old why play MCC and if you don’t mind them move on to H5.

I really agree with this because in this Halo 5 i feel like a true spartan all this new mechanics make it so cool.
It’s because it’s new and different. Some people like sprint, some people dislike sprint. So they’ll post so many threads and posts trying to justify their position as it makes a difference.
Regardless of how they feel, 343i is not going to remove it in Halo 5. Don’t get me wrong, they do listen to some feedback and take some stuff into consideration but in the end it’s their game and they develop it their way. Maybe in Halo 6: Electric Boogaloo they’ll have no sprint but we’ll see what happens.
I have a feeling that even if they did remove sprint in Halo 6: Flim Flam Jam, it might not play as well as Halo 5 and you’ll see the same cycle repeat where people hate the current Halo game and praise the previous one. Then to top it all off, they’ll find a new gameplay mechanic to complain about, obsess over and post thousands of posts as if it was some sort of political campaign.

You mean like how Reach was seemingly hated when it was out, but is now praised? lol I could see that happening.

not to sound too elitest but it depends on how good you are. longer kill times with easy to use escape mechanic just creates boring cat and mouse gameplay. there are still scenarios where halo style gameplay applies in-game, though sprint then pops its head in and offers an easy cheese.
cod has very short killtimes so you can’t abuse sprint because you die, there is risk. same goes for battlefield.
in gears roadie running fits into classic gears play which is a life based, round based execution style game. it isn’t supposed to be fast paced, though the lancer is good at stopping mindless sprint and the gnasher / wallbouncing stops closer ranged escapes.
halo has no prevention, it’s first to 50 or an objective gametype. there is nothing to give sprint risk. in reach it had less impact because it had a cooldown and jetpack had superiority in many situations.
to make it even more clear mlg used evade and jetpack as map pick-ups, despite the competitive community at large hating them in their entirety when they were off spawn abilities, it isn’t a baseless bias. imo as pick-ups jetpack and evade served a bigger purpose in game, however if sprint was a map pick-up there would be no issue. because it is not limited, infinite and more or less risk free sprint is a problem. aside from all the other arguments.
and to drive it home if you 1v1 with any ability other than sprint there is no issue, 1v1 with sprint and if the player wants to and it’s an even skill level and not too open (anything other than truth) then players could play ring around the rosy for 15 minutes. add in teammates and suddenly the guy chasing has to back off and there’s a free escape with nothing else other than a press of a button.

funny that you’re so sarcastic despite all the evolve and adapt arguments you’ve been repeating for all these years are nearly worthless. all those changes you attached your arguments to are all but gone bar sprint. maybe in halo 6 when 343 removes everything but sprint again you’ll say they were bad changes and that you are glad they’re gone. the people you’re ranting about aren’t the same ones praising the previous game, i haven’t seen an anti-sprinter even praise reach.

well i’m not in that boat. i still get mvp, i just don’t like how sprint plays. i’m also not willing to accept new games, i was an inheritor and sr 130. i just don’t like sprint.
what are the arguments for sprint?
immersion, i want immersion too, i get immersed in multiplayer by having complete control of the game, what makes your immersion superior to mine? it just means deep involvement, sprint doesn’t add immersion, it offers a type of immersion that can be at the cost of other peoples immersion.
feel like a super soldier, i want to fell like the spartan in the halo wars cutscene, but no that would ruin gameplay, so where is the line drawn?
canon? well it wasn’t in the first 10 years so it can’t be canon if it wasn’t established as canon
current gaming trends, aside from cod (which is declining) no other shooter with sprint is trending. CSGO (which is still rising) is the only other and that has no sprint.
makes you move faster, so base movement speed increase doesn’t?
how is sprint related to the storyline, how is that relevant
so what gameplay element in regards to multiplayer is positive?

Don’t know why you think I’m being sarcastic. Just trying to be light-hearted while expressing my opinion and my observations. Don’t be so upset, it’s just a video game and in the end all those arguments that anyone makes whether its pro-sprint or anti-sprint are worthless because we’re not making the game. Regardless of how many replies a thread gets, or what polls suggest or what population numbers show, the game developer will make the game they want in their own way. This has been clear from the beginning as they’ve taken into account some of the suggestions people have made after the Halo 5 beta and they did not change all the things suggested.
It’s funny, from what I’ve seen if people complain a lot in an attempt to “give feedback” and then a developer implements 1 out of 5 suggestions, then people seem to think that their influence worked and now they have the power to change the entire game. Is it possible that their internal testing and game designers also suggested/looked at these changes before/during/after the beta and decided to change it? From what I remember correctly from the Halo 5 beta, was that a lot of stuff was changed due to feedback from players, and a good amount of stuff based on player feedback was not changed.
So… jumping to conclusions, all the changes I attached to my arguments are all gone except all the changes that weren’t implemented including sprint and more, just to make your position seem more right than mine? Or is it possible we’re both delusional thinking that we have the power to design a game from our armchairs?
Moral of the story: It’s a video game. Lighten up.

Exactly, regardless of how you feel about it, it’s here to stay. In my experience, the crowd that hates sprint is really just a hardcore vocal minority that view it as foreign territory, and therefore has no place in Halo. That’s a perfectly acceptable opinion to have, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s here to stay and a large majority of Halo players either don’t really care or prefer it. You’re also correct that no matter what, someone is always complaining about some tiny feature. IMO, some warrant complaints, in most situations however, it’s just an overreaction or general fear of change.

-Dual Wielding
-Loadouts with perks and choosable starting weapons
-AA’s
-Bloom
-Flinch
Are things that at some point have been said to be here to stay, as a fact.
Halo 4’s sprint wasn’t unlimited unless you took a perk, had shield recharge while sprinting.
Halo 5’s initial sprint reset your shield recharge timer and it takes a second to reach top speed
Post-Beta the Base speed was increased and the delta between base speed and top sprint speed was decreased, meaning sprint speed wasn’t increased so that the delta only changed because base speed was increased, or top speed of sprint was decreased.
Sprint got more useless from Halo 4 to Halo 5, and they didn’t improve on it after the beta. Perhaps it won’t be here for Halo 6? Or perhaps they’ll start over with Halo 7 and not include it there?
> Don’t be so upset, it’s just a video game and in the end all those arguments that anyone makes whether its pro-sprint or anti-sprint are worthless because we’re not making the game.
odd because the people who posted large scale arguments were listened to and have changed the game, many now working for or with 343. josh holmes frequently looks at the beyond forums and responds and discusses feedback, it isn’t worthless. it’s something you seem adamant on considering worthless or futile, community involvement.

hardly what i’d call fear of change considering there’s 2 games and a collection that’s had sprint. easy way to write off an opinion.

Those people made large scale arguments and some of those things were removed and changed and some of them were not. Armor abilities became Spartan abilities. Sprint is still in the game. Elites were never added. Then they added more stuff like ADS, Micro-transactions, and new gameplay modes. They also removed some stuff like Split Screen. So are we truly responsible for changing Halo or is this just a self fulfilling prophecy? I’ll let you decide.
Lastly, I thought calling Halo 6: Electric Boogaloo was pretty funny and was meant to get a laugh. Sorry you didn’t think it was funny. Tough crowd. You seem to be out for blood today. It’s Friday, man. Don’t start your weekend off like this.
