Why is Spartan Ops so difficult now?

So I just finished Spartan Ops Episode 7: Chapter 1 on Solo. Normal difficulty. No real issues there, didn’t die once.
Why solo? Because the game before, I was playing on Co-Op with some random people, and it was a complete mess.
First off, why is Spartan Ops so laggy? It’s not my connection, I assure you, as Halo 4’s matchmaking and other games work just fine.
Second, I just found that the Co-Op game was on Legendary. Now this isn’t the first game of SPOPS I’ve played on Legendary, and it was challenging, but not too bad. So why now is it insanely difficult?

I mean, on the Co-Op game I got the Mantis and was doing reasonably well, when suddenly.

FUEL ROD GUNS.
OUT. OF. -Yoinking!-. NOWHERE.
LOTS OF THEM.

Add that to the Knights that would not stop spawning and the lag, and we have a really bad time, to say the least.

…And then the mission failed.

Does this happen a lot? I’ve never failed a mission before. Why does it kick you back to the lobby? I’m happy I at least got XP, but c’mon! No checkpoints? Really?

I general have no issues with the game. In fact, the only issue I had before was the File Share, and that’s now online.

So why is Spartan Ops so difficult all of a sudden? Or why is it so laggy?

Legendary is meant to be difficult, not easy.

It’s called Legendary for a reason. Some of us enjoy a challenge.

If you want to go through without dying then play an easier difficulty or practice and give legendary your A game.

We do not need checkpoints on missions that last 15 - 20 minutes… And as you mentioned, you are getting exp regardless.

I’m happy the co-op difficulty is now locked in at Legendary. Finally a challenge, not that “sprint to the finish” that is 4 player Heroic.

As for the lag, its occasionally rough enough that I need to switch to the AR. Actually had a very well timed and needed host-change earlier in the week. Was nice to see. But aside from that, its consistently solid.

And mission failures? Finally. Where’s the challenge and fulfillment in “well, we keep dying, but we have infinite lives”? That’s not fun.

Someone has to watch out behind the mantis. there are several groups of coveys (including FRG’s) that spawn behind you as you work your way toward the Phantom.

Because it was too easy before.

Heroic is easy.

Heroic with lag is like Legendary.

Legendary is tough but manageable.

Legendary with lag is just no fun at all. It’s not a challenge it’s just downright ridiculously frustrating.

I have been enjoying the last few episodes of spops but they should be on Heroic. Spops is entirely to laggy to be enjoyed on Legendary co-op.

I love legendary honestly…it’s all or nothing for me.
First play through if campaign was on legendary, and it was a lot of fun.

Spartan Ops 4-player can be a chaotic mess, throw lag in there and the OP is on point. Truthfully with 4 players I don’t even see the legendary difficulties.

That said, I always go through the chapters solo as well, I discover I actually miss a lot in the 4-player. Solo, I can take my time, even explore a little.

Yeah I noticed the change just in this one mission alone. Seriously, this is the first time you can ever /fail/ a mission. It’s actually quite difficult to even get to a spot where you can kill all the enemies without dying and without the phantom bugging out.

Like someone above me has already said, due to the bad lag that seems to occur, the difficulty should have remained at Heroic as the game was more enjoyable then. If they can find some way of reducing the lag then I’d be all for Legendary 4 player co-op as I’m quite comfortable playing on Legendary.
On Legendary I like to PP/Headshot the Elites but I find the lag in co-op Spartan OPs often causes me to miss with the PP charged shot.

Episode 7 is so much easier compared to 1-5.

It was the only Episode I enjoyed on Easy difficulty.

There’s a lot of potential in the first chapter, potential AI collecting…

I like having choices. Also, watch Master RC’s run of it. Really great how there’s some skipping. If we had scoring, it’d be a viable speedrunning mission.
