Why is Slayer BRs in unranked Team Slayer?

To be fair you didn’t need a BR in H5 because the magnum was awesome

Frustrating to use on PC? I dunno if I can agree with that per-say, but it’s my go to weapon in most of the time.

But I’m also not new to gaming if that’s where you’re coming from. I’ve been active in the FPS genre for thirty years, so my experience probably plays a huge role in why I really prefer the battle rifle in this game so much. Twitch aimings been my thing since the original Team Fortress mod on Quake lol.

That makes sense, apologies. The AR really is a joke with how versatile the BR is in halo 3.

OKMB2056 is right, the DMR in its launch form and ESPECIALLY in its Title Update form made Reach a total slog.

Finally getting out of LSS and going into Team Slayer with a 5K Cumulative Scoring Challenge got me to see how I feel between AR Starts and BR Starts.

And, yeah, having actually been able to play games where one would be a AR and the next one a BR…I just like AR Starts better. In my AR matches, I’ll regularly decide on either using my Sidekick or AR depending on my situation where I feel I can do better with one or the other, or have to swap to my Sidekick to finish a job my AR started or vice versa. I’ll swap out my AR with a Mangler, Bulldog, or even Pulse Carbine if I feel like it (I have grown to appreciate the effectiveness of Pulse Carbines) and I’ll see people even use Needlers. For the Sidekick, I’ll swap it with the Commando, Battle Rifle, Stalker, etc. I’ll even feel a temptation to try the Sentinel Beam due to its potential melting capabilities if you can stay on target.

Going over to BR Starts the next match…why bother with a lot of these weapons? Save for power weapons and Bulldogs/Heatwaves if you can get close to be effective, I just don’t feel the drive to diversify my weaponry as I do if I start with an AR. I walked by a Commando without batting an eye cause I already had the BR.

I just don’t like BR Starts. It’s a good weapon, the kind of weapon that you should find and pick up because of how its advantages just eclipses a lot of the other weapons, but I just don’t like it as a starting weapon.

People who want it and prefer the precision-style gameplay with it? Sure, go for it. Play how you want and I’ve always believed that players should have options other than Ranked to play with BRs. I’m not saying BR Starts aren’t the way to go, I’m just saying they aren’t for me. I just wish - much like MCC - there were options that players could have where they’d be able to play their preferred playstyle and do hope we get them at some point where people can choose to have BR Starts if they want them or AR Starts in Slayer and other playlists.

I have nothing but bad luck with it. It feels like a single shot is hitting my opponent’s body exclusively, and I can almost never score a headshot with it. Maybe it’s that negative aim assist I heard about, but it feels like the opponent’s Battle Rifle is always stronger and more accurate than mine even with a controller in my hands (thanks for the lack of Red Reticle, 343!)

I’ve played a lot of Halo MCC, particularly in SWAT for Halo 3, and the Battle Rifle here just doesn’t feel right. I actually have way better luck with the Commando in Infinite than I do the Battle Rifle, and I find the Commando is substantially more consistent than the Battle Rifle in Infinite.

The DMR with bloom in Halo Reach was horrendous.

Just make it a SEPARATE PLAYLIST

Agreed! Having it as a starting weapon on smaller maps is problematic, also. The same rationale that prevents them from having BR-only starts in the BTB playlist applies here: it is difficult to move around on Aquarius or Catalyst when your opponents can be team-shooting you from across the map.

Additionally, as I said before the Slayer BR variant now comprises 58% (7 of 12) out of the possible game type/map combinations in the Team Slayer playlist, but the Season 2 change that “nerfed” the melee damage overall was only mitigated for the BR in Ranked playlists. As a result, the Ranked Arena participants can still use a BR that has a 2-burst/melee kill, while that won’t work for people in Team Slayer (as well as the other Social playlists).

With all due respect to the 343i crew, making Slayer BR the predominant variant in this playlist with radar enabled while the melee damage remains constrained is a huge disservice to the Team Slayer fan base.

It’s not unranked team slayer anymore. It’s action sack or whatever playlist name they chose.

Playlists have been melded together to account for the, less than flexible, UI which doesn’t support the vast amount of playlist we’re used to.

Might have to wait until they overhaul the UI.

I’m really glad they added the BR starts. I prefer it i
fact.

Team Slayer isn’t my go-to playlist though. Sure, I’ll play it, but a lot of the time it’s for challenges. Take my opinion for what it is.

I get why people are upset. Look what they did to SWAT.

I’m just glad that the starts in Team Slayer rotate between two weapons.

Okay so I want to re-evaluate my original take on this… I like the diversity but I also don’t love playing BR slayer in the unranked playlist. I play ranked very differently than I do social, because of this, I’ve found that it throws off how the match goes.

Ranked is designed around rewarding skill while also encouraging a more team oriented and tactical playstyle. A good example to support this is how players start with a BR and have to pick up a weapon designed to be used for close quarters engagements and there is no radar.

Social slayer has similarities but the story of how each match plays is different, social is about finding and fighting over power on the map at a close range to then allow players to be rewarded with longer distance weapons. I.e., AR and Sidekick starts + radar and grenade hit markers.

Originally I liked this addition to they playlist because it added diversity, now I don’t really feel the same about it. Now, I find that I get lasered consistently because I play the match like I would If i were playing social slayer. However, playing like its a ranked match isn’t the answer either because typically the teams I’ve played with don’t do so. I think why it really bothers me is multifaceted 1 the Melee nerf to the BR in social, 2 no secondary weapon at start (this amplifies the Melee nerf issue because there is a significant lack of CQ options that are viable for anything other than trades at match start), 3 grenade hitmakers and radar, 4 hurts player choice, 5 challenge system amplifies #4.

I think I might be more favorable to the mode if it just fully embraced the ranked settings but it wasn’t tied to actual CSR, almost like ranked practice. I’d also be open to the idea of adding (assuming they fixed the challenge system) Fiesta to the playlist as ultimately this is also team slayer. How does everyone else feel about this after having played it for a while? I’m curious to hear your thoughts?
