Please can somebody then explain why we have ranked? Because from all the responses in this thread we should all only ever be matching up against similarly ranked players all the time, even in social. So what is the point in ranked?
Also, just because somebody disagrees with you does not make them entitled, or that they want to stomp new players. There is a ranked mode for anybody who wants to play with similarly skilled players. That is literally the whole reason ranked exists…
I don’t know where this train of thought has come from in the last 5 years of gaming whereby everything has to be like a tournament every game you play. None of the old favourites had this stuff for example cod 4 and halo 3. People back then just had fun….
Ranked has stakes, you lose and your rank goes down. You win your rank goes up.
Social I agree should have looser sbmm, which it does. People are asking for it to be even looser or off altogether which I think is problematic for most of the population.
Every player should have the joy of winning and losing regularly even if they aren’t a great player. Just because you are a great player doesn’t mean you deserve to win 95% of your games. If there was no sbmm I assume this would be the case for myself.
In ranked there is something at stake: your rank (you derank when losing and rank up when winning), where in social you don’t have to stress if you win or not.
Depends on the time od day you play and the servers you play on as well as do most games.
Iv seen alot of halo clips to know when people arent versing players their skill level. Im not a fan of it personally and it certainly doesnt feel balanced in alot of matches (just because im good dont mean i should get new players who cant aim sorta thing)
MCC has SBMM in socials, the population is just so small that top tier players regularly get put in games they don’t belong in. I’d say I’m fairly decent, maybe a little above average, I finish top of my team in most matches (3 and Reach) but when I used an alt account I was always top in the lobby considerably and was dropping 22 kills average per game (I only played a couple though) compared to my 14 average on my main. My K/D is just under 200% of my main account on my alt.

That’s not true at all because your MMR in ranked depends on your social performance as well. In fact, whether you win or not in ranked doesn’t have much bearing on the CSR you get. One win could give you basically nothing and the next you jump up half a rank, all driven by the MMR across all playlists. Which is why everyone in social is so sweaty, because you cannot relax without it impacting your MMR and ranked profile.
True your MMR is driven by personal performance, but if you are stuck with other Onyx players in social then you are going to have to sweat to retain it, there is no alternative.
L
I don’t think it makes as much of a difference as people think. Especially as if you accidentally lower your MMR through social, your games in ranked are easier and you’ll accelerate your MMR back up in no time.
Generally I don’t have to sweat in social at all. I literally only turn it on if I think we are going to lose and even then if it’s too late in the game I don’t bother. Managed to climb to almost Onyx 1700 despite not putting much effort into social.
It’s probably why I have a 61% win record in ranked actually lmao. I sweat hard in ranked but mess around in social most the time.
Thats just not the case for infinite. People can play bot matches and wipe that whole game up. Then they go and play ranked and theyre immediately matched up against diamond players with the current system. It makes no logical sense because the ranking system in Infinite is determined by a hidden value that is calculated across every single game you play
No. The least sweaty games are against the least sweaty players. If you want to say that the sweaty players are in the top 75% of players, then anyone playing against those people will be playing against sweats lol. And if the those in the bottom 50% arent sweats, that means that people playing against the bottom 50% (even if they themselves are also below 50%) wont be playing a sweaty match. If somebody who is bad at Halo plays against another person who is also bad at Halo, they will not be sweating their nuts off. Its ok for someone to get put into a match where they have to try hard to win every once in a while. Its a little bit annoying when this is required ad nauseum in a social playlist tho. If someone in the top 75% is constantly playing agaisnt others in the top 75%, that means they constantly have to try hard to win. Halo 2 had the best matchmaking philosophy. Make it a good mix of games where you can sit back, relax, and still win mixed with games where to have to coordinate and try and be rewarded if you come out on top. Being subjected constantly to the latter option is tiring.
That statement is purely contradiction. If you have to use bot matches to “repair” your MMR after a bad round of social games, that means they matter a lot
For you, but for that other player that would be the most sweaty, since they will be facing someone they almost can’t kill, because of a huge skill difference.
They will, because they will have to try just as hard to get a kill they you would have if you play against someone your own skill.
They YOU might not have to sweat that much against a bad player is simply because YOU have the skill to pull that off easily, but they don’t have that skill. What is ‘sweaty’ is different for players, because of there skill. What is easy for you, might be very hard for them.
No it’s not, because ‘once in a while’ means they lose the fast majority of their games and are almost always outskilled.
And talk about hypocracy: you’re now literaly saying that it’s okay for them to almost never win (only ‘once in while’) but not okay for you to to win about half of the time. That is realy the height of entitlement there and extremely unhealthy for a game.
Just like everybody else. Yet, you are now demanding that all those other players should try much harder to not even win, just because you don’t even want to have to try… Entitlement!
Do you even know what the meaning of the word “if” is? It means that is not the case. I was just pointing out here what would be the case in his argumentation and that is that it does NOT affect your CSR, because you can easily repair it before playing ranked, so there is no damage to your CSR unless you want to.
But again: that is not even the case, because for people who are higher ranked, they already have played a lot of matches, so a couple of social games will have almost no impact on your MMR.
If you read that in its proper context you would know that i meant that some games they will try hard to win, other games they will be matched with players worse than them and they will win easily. Its not even hypocrisy if i was saying what you thought because no where did i say i am entitled to win more than half of my matches. I said its annoying to need to sweat my nuts off in every single match
Where am i demanding anything??? All i basically said was that treating every social game matchmaking experience as if it were a ranked game makes it so that everyone constantly has to try hard to win. And again, if you read in context you would know that even the bottom 50% of players could still potentially get matched against people worse than them resulting in a win that would come easily.
But that is the case for people who are turning the game on for the first time. They go and play, lets say 20 bot matches before they feel comfortable. They arent good at Halo but they did so well in the bot matches that the first time they go to play ranked, they get matched against diamond level players. Does that make any sense to you??? Because thats how the current system is set up.
