Why is ray tracing becoming a thing post launch

My biggest pet peeve in single player games and rereleasing them over and over again. Why add something like ray tracing that would only improve the lighting a little bit to the common eye after the pizzazz of the campaign is already gone. Im not gonna be like oh sweet the ray tracing update is out let me play the campaign that has lost its spark because I played it already.

This is why people are calling to delay the game.
This is not even to mention the other problems that people have about the graphics. You have a franchise game that has good story elements, but its biggest focus was multiplayer. An average person is going to play the campaign once around, then maybe co op with friends to grind achievements. Why add better graphical updates post launch. It feels like as if you just went to a old dusty museum and the very next day they put a fresh coat of paint and cleaned, but you already saw everything so the only point to go in would be to look at how clean it is.

Yeah, pretty dumb to add a significant lighting element after everything’s all said and done. If it’s not finished it’s not finished. Just delay it, all things considered. I don’t want to play through the inferior version of the campaign just because it’s released sooner.

Agreed. It’s building up to be a repeat of H5 launch unless 343i forego the XSX launch window and release the complete game later on. RTX is one of the main features of next gen consoles and to see Halo launch without it will be disappointing. They should take as long as necessary to put out a complete and truly next-gen game. I would like to see Infinite push the XSX to its limits.

Was this confirmed? Something about that doesn’t sound right.

After watching the gameplay trailer analysis from Digital Foundry, it becomes abundantly clear that ray-traced lighting is a critical element for Halo Infinite’s presenation.

Halo Infinite is the flagship title of the Xbox Series X. Launching the game with current gen technology on next gen hardware is unaccaptable.

Ray tracing needs to be there the same day that Series X arrives on store shelves. Day One.

Almost makes you wonder considering that the XSX launch date as well as Halo Infinite launch date have been kept so intentionally vague for so long. Obviously it’s partly due to the silly stalemate with Sony on pricing & details etc. but you do wonder if they’re intentionally leaving themselves leeway to extend the launch date a few weeks to make sure Halo is in a passable state.

I really wouldn’t mind them delaying at this point though. I’m good I’m gonna have Cyberpunk to play day 1, take all the time you need.

(side note - apparently Cyberpunk is also releasing their raytracing update post launch unless they’ve made more progress than they thought. Might be partly an industry thing. Maybe devs just haven’t had their hands on the XSX hardware for long enough?)

… Or maybe we still have a global pandemic going on which forced developers all around the globe to work from home
what caused delays in their predicted time tables.

I agree the Covid stuff probably put a big hold on development these past 6 months, but they still have the release time they gave us 2 years ago.

Highly doubt an in-house dev like 343i haven’t had access to that hardware until recently.
