I just wanted to say a few thing after playing the game for the current flight starting Oct 1. I am loving the game so far and it feels very halo and big teams was a real fun experience. I had some of the known issues occur while going through like rubber banding when jumping over vehicles. I had a few things happen that are very strange and maybe it is just me not noticing something or whatnot. When I played my first game on all default setting open mic was enabled by default. Not sure if that is intentional or not. It got very annoying very quickly and I am not sure all the players knew it was on as they were just having conversations with people and I heard all their private conversations.I also noticed that I heard my own voice in the game the very first game on all default audio setting I quickly put on push to talk not to hear the echo.
It worked the first match I played with the push to talk option turned on. The next match I didn’t hear my own voice and I tried pushing to talk to see if anyone could hear me. No one responded but I pressed tab and I saw it the microphone icon near my name changing when I pressed it and talked. I assume there was just nobody responding or they really couldn’t hear me. I tested this several times over the course of the games I played. No one ever responded to me as if they heard me talking. Other people where in chat asking if anyone had a mic also. Then I got annoyed after a few matches with the people just having conversations over open mic that I turned off match voice chat option to mute it. It worked and the voice chat went away. The very next match after turning it off it went on by itself and I immediately went into settings to turn it off. I turned it off again but this time it didn’t work. I still heard all the chatter. I had to lower the volume all the way of the voice chat output to get it to stop as none the check mark options there worked to get it to stop. In my opinion I don’t think open mic should be on by default. Again I wasn’t sure where to report the bug if it even is one. It seemed odd. I looked over known issues and didn’t see anything about it.
One more thing I didn’t see anything about was after a few games when I tried to match make after about 2 matches the matchmaking would refuse to connect and it would just tell me it lost connect and error out like 3 times and then it let me hit play but nothing happened and it wouldn’t search at all. I sat there for like 15 minutes thinking it was searching for a match it just didn’t show me the confirmation. It had the cancel option available so I assumed it was searching. I felt like it didn’t search at all. I tried backing out to main menu and restarting the matchmaking but it didn’t help. I had to restart the client to get it to work again.
Also I had a couple crashes when changing options mid match in the menu in the audio section messing with the option for the problem I explained having earlier in this post. I would try to change the key binds for push to talk and it would revert the very next match and one time I changed it and the game just crashed to desktop. Not sure if it is related to me changing the key binds mid match.
Again thanks for the wonderful beta experience. It was actually really fun and the gameplay feels really solid and I love it so far. Keep up the good work. I will see if I run in to further issues. I checked on where to report bugs but is just said look for a link at the bottom of the halo insider support page. I checked there but did not see one. If anyone can refer me where to look I would appreciate it.
Had a game where all I heard was someone typing on the keyboard nonstop. Was a little annoying, but I’ll take that trade-off if that means for some entertaining conversations to be accidentally heard, haha.
By the way, the golden era of Halo (mainly Halo 2) was when everyone had their mic on as well as proximity chat. I think focusing on turning mics off could hurt the game’s replayability.
If you go into the Audio settings tab you can find the voice chat settings in there and you can turn it off, toggle, etc. You can also just plain turn off lobby chat in general
Hearing teammates talk some -Yoink- not know they were open mic has been so fun these flights.
