I installed Halo 5 for the billion times just to play the multiplayer. I only took a break for, hmm, maybe 6 months. I was a great player back then, still now. Every match I enter, I kept getting rekt to the point where I have to “try hard” every match I had. I have been on top of my team for numerous times but most times my teams lose. Maybe its the game, maybe its me, idk.
playing with friends always makes a difference. A 6 month hiatus is quite a long one. We have had new weapons added/moved, new maps put into rotation and in general the way people play the maps has changed significantly
Best to go WZFF to get used to Halo again. Since its the only stress-fromlosing-free game mode out there (for me)

knowing I’m “only” 40 wins from finishing the commendation, I get pretty bummed when I lose
My guess is that the casual players are gone. The player population remaining is probably more skilled as a group than the population 6 months ago.
How are you coming here complaining about how everybody is better than you and then saying that you are still a great player? If you are a great player then you shouldn’t be struggling. Sorry to break it to you, but they are just better than you.
You can’t just take a 6 month break and except that you will come back and play well.
It really bothers we when peoples at that they are struggling because of the game. It is still the same game that you played 6 months ago.
The problem isn’t the game. It’s you.

I’m a casual player but I stay away from the train wreck known as Arena and Warzone, I stick to Firefight and customs, as a casual should.
If I don’t play for a week or two it takes a few games to get back to normal. 6 months and you’re lucky you can shoot and walk at the same time.
Mixture of time away (thats a long break, especially for a game that requires high reflexes), as well as the shrinking of the population. Anyone who was getting stomped constantly (rookie players) left for other stuff. Survival of the fittest.

That is true, i’m seeing fewer and fewer people playing with my “silver” friends. They seem to be playing less and less due to getting golds and plats all the time
Maybe you should try first in the social lists, after pausing the game, to regain the ability and once you feel familiar again, enter the ranking lists. And there is always a difference to play alone and go with your team
Great suggestions by a lot of people in here. I’ll add that you should practice in Firefight to work on headshots and earn some req points. Also, playing campaign on Legendary will help you to optimize your shooting (It helps me anyways.)
I took a month off from this game and it was hard to readjust to the way people played. Another thing you could do is join a company or clan where you can play with people. Not only will you learn to play better from others, but when you form friendships it can take the sting out of losing as well as make winning all that more enjoyable.
Hope it helps. Good luck to you Spartan!

Firefight will not help you improve against human players, not in any considerable way… It may help beginners in practicing how to snap to targets quickly, but nothing beyond that really. Just really rudimentary stuff…
AI aren’t going to execute a well-thought out attack and move/navigate an environment like a skilled player would.

True, but it can help players who have taken a six month hiatus to get used to the controls and practice aiming their shots before they go out and sacrifice themselves to more experienced players.
I do agree with you that playing against other players is the only way you will really improve, since you learn from not only your own mistakes and successes, but others’ as well.

6 months is a long break. Surely the community’s overall average skill and knowledge of the game has increased in your absence
maybe you should change to FFA if you play with randoms
All I can add is play play play. Try not to worry about getting crushed. When I stopped worrying, I did see an improvement. Being tense is my worst enemy. Trying too hard, I seem to choke. Relax take a few minutes between matches. Your skills will come back.
Well lets see, you took a six month long break which Halo updates have been adding to the game every month. Its just you man.
