Why Is Melee So Inconsistent?

Sometimes I will not lunge at someone just to see then lunge even FURTHER at me a second later.

Personally I hate that they can lunge through you and are now directly behind you.

No idea why they removed collision in a game were you rely a lot on the melee mechanic. The amount of times I pass through players trying to melee them or getting backsmacked by an enemy directly facing me but passed through me and hit my back is far too common. If I try to avoid getting too close to avoid the melee going through them then the game thinks I am too far and I melee the air 1ft from them.

Player collision was tweaked so now you are just lightly nudged rather than fully blocked.
As a result, fast movements or desync can result in you looking at someone from the front, clipping through them as you strike; and your attack coordinates strike the back-torso hitbox, resulting in an insta kill.

What genius decided to “tweak” the collision to function like that.

I think it was done to prevent glitches and errors when it came to thrusters and grapples.

If I was grappling and there was a solid collision detection while I bumped into someone else grappling, I might bug out and the game would treat it as if I got struck by a warthog, thus splattering us both.

Thruster collisions in Halo 5 sometimes bounced people awkwardly or caused your thruster to suddenly stop.

So collision was reduced so we would slide off of one another… inadvertently allowing you to slide into someone’s model and slap their spine from the front.

Alright, thanks for the explanation. Then that means they need to fix the bugs related to abilities and collision rather than whatever quick fix they decided to do.

Yep this game is so inconsistent with everything and really bad with the melee. Without player collision it’s even worse and with the hit detection issues/desync it’s repulsive. Things like the melee in this game really show that it’s F2P and bare bones at best.

Anyway to answer your concern, there is a lunge exploit that has been around since Halo 2 with the Energy Sword. And given the use of a thruster or a grapple-shot, it is easy to use this exploit once again to REALLY get some distance.

Maybe someone has it so are auto-flagged?
Similar to how there is a blacklist of players in Titanfall and Titanfall 2 made by some hacker so that whenever they join a game, the entire match gets DDOSed?
Only with you it auto-flags your posts?

Online forums are designed by someone who has a forum system already set-up.
Hence why the old forums are gone and everyone got set to newcomer when they changed site-sources.
And honestly the new forums kinda suck.

I really just want to know why melee is so broken in this game.

Not made by them but they paid for it just like they paid for CA to make their broken sub par Matchmaking and Maps. Fault is held by who makes the decisions!!!

Last I checked, Certain Affinity has a great roster of maps that they have developed over the years of making DLCs for Call of Duty and Halo.

Bungie also has a great roster but that isn’t now is it? COD used to have extremely solid maps. COD4, MW2, BO1-2, and WaW had solid maps. After that it was far and in between like Halo. Sure we get some good maps but we don’t remember them and hold value to them like the superior older ones. Crash has been remade how many times in COD? Who knows lol but you don’t see anyone raving over any new maps like those oldschool ones.

Certain Affinity was in charge of multiplayer development and map-making in LITERALLY HALF the games you mentioned.

  • Halo Reach
  • CoD World At War
  • Black Ops 1

They made DLC Packs for ALL of those games, and when it came to World and War, they are the ones who made the multiplayer while the main studio behind CoD WaW focused on the campaign and Zombies.

The fact that their maps keep getting remade is a testament to their design.

Put simply, you want good multiplayer content? Get the guys at Certain Affinity on your payroll!

Yeah they did have a hand in good stuff but here we are with a broken mess and maps that are… okay I guess? Nothing special and nothing memorable. No Blood Gulch, Sidewinder, The Pit, Crash, Rust, Etc… here.

And I would like to point out that Certain Affinity hasn’t been cited for their work in the multiplayer of Halo Infinite. Only the development of Forge.
