So why is he wearing the cloak? He’s been in desert environments before and surely the suit is made to last and withstand the most hazardous environments. He’s taken battle damage and even sports full shields. So a little sand shouldn’t be a problem. Is it purely for artistic purposes, meant to hide the true man behind the hood?
That can’t be as it is silly at best. We know it’s Chief. We see his boots. It only begs the question of why he needs it in the first place.
So why is he wearing it?

Does he still have shields? I thought after the Didact did his force grip thing, the Chiefs shields went offline, hence them not recharging when you scramble to detonate the nuke. This may also explain the crack in his visor in the trailer
He linked up with Humanity. Surely they would have the ability to repair it. Also the fact that the UNSC has the technology to implement nanomachines that can alter an already damaged armor set and upgrade it into a new, pristine formation, inexplicably adding extra matter to where there is none!
So him having no shields is also discredited by the notion that his armor is logically built to withstand even the shredding desert.
Good suggestion though.
Though do I know? No. I’m just asking for brainstorms here.
A cloak in multiplayer would be pretty boss… Think about it.

There are seriously enough reasons why he’s wearing a cloak -_-… Yes i’m 100% sure he still got he’s armor. And yes is visor got -Yoinked!- up… because of a fight to get there were he is now.
I think he’s searching cortana desperately and after all the fights he went through, he desided to go in disguise. And maybe even hiding for Oni and UNSC.
