I love Halo, and I love the story that surrounds each game, but one question that has been itching me ever since Halo:CE is…why is Master Chief so popular?
He rarely talks
When he does its just simple one liners
There were/are others like him, so we hasn’t the supreme Spartan
and the list goes on
Personally, Cortana has been my favorite character in all of Halo since we actually get something with her.
Are there any other Halo fans who have the same thought of the Chief? Don’t get me wrong. Chief is no scrub. He puts in work like not other, it’s just that I think he is a tad overrated.
because he’s caboose with a darth Vader voice changer…
comon, everyone knows this

Cool looking, badass, fresh lines?
His one liners are epic. The trilogy was apparently made for him with other characters surrounding him.
He blows up -Yoink- while looking badass.
Because he’s just awesome. Look at the previous Halo games, besides ODST and Wars, he’s famous for the things he does. He destroys Halo, survived the Flood three times, blows up scarabs, and has a lot of luck. His personality is a “silent” hero type.
Because he’s Sgt. Johnsons friend.
For people who have just played the games, the love for the Chief is akin to that for Samus Aran. They’re characters with established stories, but they act as fairly blank slates in the game, causing the players to project feelings and ideals into the character. People shape him as they want him to be.
Personally, I prefer the Arbiter, aka, the only playable character with decent in-game characterisation.
If you have to ask, then you’ll never understand.
Because hes the leader of the spartan-IIs, he saved the galaxy 3 times, and hes a total badass!!!
> Because hes the leader of the spartan-IIs, he saved the galaxy 3 times, and hes a total badass!!!
I get that, but there are other character in other series that save their galaxy from doom, yet Master Chief has always been the topic of discussion.

Of course, but the games don’t focus on them. I’m sure more people play the game, then read the books or other halo related videos talking about the history of Spartans.
I’m pretty sure that guy from Halo wars got his fame though for blowing up the shield world, or whatever happened. He seemed like a hero. Other than that, you can’t blame people for loving chief so much. I like Arby very much as well…
I’ll admit that he is not very developed as a character, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. From all of the Halo books you are able to see a much more complicated perspective; you don’t just see his actions, but often the justification (and personal ramifications) of each choice.
If you combine the character that develops in the books with the character you play in the games, you actually end up with a pretty damn cool hero. I’m perfectly okay with him being revered
What he has done as a Spartan. His strength, his fast reflexes and so on. He’s just a bad a**!
The thing that makes him awesome for me is that no other character can mess with him, I’d say that when ONI minipulates others they don’t think twice but if they were to cross the chief and get on his bad side then they know there in for it. The Chief has stopped the thoughest city destroying, planet destroying war machines not ounce but many, many times. He has stopped the universe destroying halo rings and he is some sort of revered savior to a lost race of superior beings. He’s been a badass since he was a child and he is a -Yoink!- spartan!
The idea that he can be such an unstopable force - probable even without cortana - is an apealing idea that captures the minds of so many.
Because he walks away from explosions with his back to them every time.
Everyone knows that by the Hero Code your an instant -Yoink!- when doing that without faltering.
Because he is the lord Emperor of mankind, who sacrificed himself to save us from the terrors of the warp!
…
Oops, wrong series.
