I was driving a warthog when an opponent managed to hop into the passenger seat just before a laser destroyed the hog. I died of course, but the passenger survived and just kept walking. Does that fact that all attacks are greatly reduced against your allies not bother anyone else? I feel this has changed how the game is played. You can now easily throw grenades at your allies while they are in close quarters combat without as much worry of them being killed.
Would you rather have your team mates kill you for the incineration cannon? Or for the sniper rifle? Im glad they added this. Reach needed this when it was released.
i never noticed this, but now ive got an another thing to add to the -Yoink- list that is halo 4, assuming its true that is
Well friendly fire has completely gone from H4… so instead of working out a smart way to remove the problem of betrayals and griefing 343i just wholesale removed anyway to betray or grief.
So on one hand the game is less stressful but on the other hand the game is less stressful.
Friendly fire encourages tactics, strategy and considered actions. You have to think before you fire. With H4 that doesn’t matter anymore, just spam grenades mindlessly, fire that Scorpion at anything and launch rockets and fire lasers without having to worry about anything at all. The only thing you could possibly do is kill your enemy or destroy your allies vehicle.
Instead of removing friendly fire 343i should have thought of something better and less drastic. A reputation level for each player perhaps that is affected by betrayals, quits, AFKs, reports and game actions, and your reputation either pits you against other griefers and cheats or pits you against similar good honest players.
You know, something like that. Seems obvious to me.
> Would you rather have your team mates kill you for the incineration cannon? Or for the sniper rifle? Im glad they added this. Reach needed this when it was released.
But the ops example the passenger should have died end of story
It’s a CoD feature. Quite useful in the Halo setting as well, so that -Yoink- teammates don’t betray you for whatever power weapon you have.
its true
One skill I gained from Halo was the ability to shoot a rocket at an enemy in a way that the splash damage would kill them, but not my team mate who was near by. I took great pride in that -Yoink- and now it’s gone:( I agree that friendly fire > not having friendly fire. I’d rather put up with the odd game where I get booted then to change the game by removing friendly fire.
It really bugs me. Now that there’s no friendly fire, people are a lot more careless. I’d much rather deal with the occasional greifer, as they’ve caused me less annoyance than everyone shooting rockets/grenades/what have you at an enemy or vehicle you’re about to take out.
And speaking of vehicles, there’s now absolutely nothing from stopping greifers from blowing up the Mantis/Banshee/Gauss Hog you happened to get to first.
Fun times…
I never had a big problem with teammates betraying me for the Sniper or any other weapon in Halo 3 or Reach, but then again, I usually played with friends. Not being able to melee your teammates is one thing, but they should not be immune from vehicle explosions
Don’t mind at all.
Helps avoid those awkward situations when you’ve been killing Blues for several games, and then find yourself on the Blue team.
I swear, I was on “Kill Blue” autopilot when I plasma pistoled your ghost and then stuck it.
…
My bad.
Still BFFs?
I wish they had extended this to the splattering of team mates. I’ve been ran over several times by careless team mates or by team mates trying to position their vehicle’s weapons and they didn’t see me. I’ve also ran people over when I’m bossting to splatter an enemy and a team mate ran in front of me firing at the enemy.
I would suspect with the new influx of players, like myself, would rage over betrayers. Not to mention, have you seen this forum. I think people would go nuts, even amongst the vast majority of you who are veterans at Halo. It’s a new day with a new crowd. Not sure if you guys were this rambunctious before, but this forum is very critical!
Today in a slayer match, one of my team got accidentally run over by the warthog. This was in that initial rush at the start of the game, when people are scrambling to vehicles. You know.
Anyway, he proceeded to full on rage for the entire game. He calmed a bit toward the end, although he did let go one last “can’t believe you idiots ran over me with a warthog” right before the game ended.
Priceless.
I routinely stick teammates in close quarters when they are charging ahead. I’m getting a lot of plasma kills this way. Pretty cheap but with no friendly fire why not? I can’t believe I didn’t get booted in koth where there’s is friendly fire, I betrayed everyone to find out it was on in that list. My bad.
Friendly Fire is off, at least in Infinity Slayer.

…Now I feel like a complete moron… Thanks to you!

Why would they betray you for that? Everyone can have their own now in ordinance drops!
/Sarcasm
the only way to betray someone in slayer is to splatter them.
friendly fire is only credited on vehicles. you haven’t had teammates going around blowing you up in your vehicles yet?
