Why is it cool to only like H3 and not H5?

Why is it cool in this community to only like H3 and not H5? I’ve also noticed it’s cool to hate things that you actually like, because you don’t want to be called a fanboy or something like that. Should I like things that I actually hate?

its not cool thats just the popular opinion

What? Not sure what you’re talking about. Opinions are opinions, everyone has one.

Welcome to discussing anything that’s a series or a franchise ever in the history of ever.

The first ones are always the coolest by default. Because reasons.

Some people like Halo 3, some like Halo 5. No one is hating on any game because it is cool, they do it because they genuinely have problems with the game. Honestly, most of it I would’ seven call “hate”, more like criticism. Just because people aren’t completely being nice about it doesn’t mean it isn’t criticism.

If you’re talking about public opinion, you don’t have to go with it if you disagree. Like any Halo game you want.

I really doubt anyone does it to be cool. Halo 3 was great and the community was great for the most part. Just the overall experience. I like 5 better than any Halo game since 3. However I still think 3 was the better overall experience, and while I don’t want 5 to be a copy of 3 there are a lot of elements from 3 that would make 5 close to perfect. It’s pretty close as it is.

This, 1000x this.

Well Halo 3 had proper BTB maps, proper social and ranked playlists, a better ranking system, and had game modes that should been in Halo 5 at launch. While teh gameplay is fun the over all package of Halo 5 is horrible.

I like Halo 5 a lot, minus the campaign. But out of all the Halo games, 2 is the one I’m most in love with, that’s when I made so many friends and a lot of my best Halo memories are from playing 2, doing split screen with my brothers and LAN parties. Of course I played 2 for years and Halo 5 has only been out for 9 months so over time it’s possible Halo 5 will be right up there as well!

I think people have rose tinted goggles on when discussing past games. Rarely do I see mention of the horrible projectile hit registration that H3 had (which was bad even on lan, and pros would literally yell “this game is trash” at events), or how Halo2 had SMG starts and not many precision weps on maps for months after launch. I remember a time when being unranked in H2 was better than being ranked, because it usually meant you played Customs with “proper” settings instead of the dual wielding spray fest that was Matchmaking.

I’ve liked all the Halo games for the most part, but I feel like many people who complain about the shortcomings of H5 and praise past games as benchmarks fail to remember what playing those past games was actually like. They only remember the fun things of past games, and only point out the bad things of H5.

Also you have to remember that different generations of people have different experiences with Halo games. I started out with HaloCE, so it’s probably my favorite game, and often people will do that. Whatever game they started playing is “The Best”. It doesn’t matter that the last level of Halo 3 was basically the same as HaloCE, people will still praise how amazingly original the story was. I can only imagine the -Yoink- storm that would insue on this forum if H5 had the same ending level as a previous title, but it worked for Halo 3 for some reason.

Basically, it’s nostalgia, bias, and rose tinted goggles.

I like halo 5

I mean as far as multiplayer, i prefer H2 over all, but I wouldnt put H2 over H5. Everyone has their preference.

You don’t become a fanboy for liking something.

You become a fanboy by spouting illogical garbage and being ridiculously over-defensive of that thing to the point of directly attacking its critics and ignoring or apologizing for glaring flaws.

-If you don’t like it, make your own game.
-If you have criticisms you hate it, and if you hate it then play something else.
-The game runs at 20FPS? I’m going to say it’s your potato computer even though your computer is top of the line and the game is obviously poorly optimized.
-Most of the game’s previous content is now locked behind micro-transactions? No one is forcing you to buy them mate.
-The game’s length was too short for its money? Pfft, I bet you didn’t even complete the game 100% by doing -Yoink- like going around and collecting the little trophies everywhere, which is neither actually entertaining nor meaningful.
-What’s that, this part of the game is tedious or poorly designed? GIT GUD LAWL, EVEN THOUGH YOUR SKILL IS IRRELEVANT TO THE PROBLEM.
-You think a previous game was better overall? SURELY THERE’S NO GENUINE REASONS YOU COULD BELIEVE THIS, IT’S JUST NOSTALGIA LAWL.

So on. I’m tired of the seeing the same -Yoinking!- stupidity everywhere I go.

Here’s a counter-question. Why do people obsessively defend developers who don’t care about them, don’t even know them, and aren’t interested in their best interests? I guess it’s just the cool thing to do. Or maybe you just suffer from some weird form of stockholm syndrome, hell if I know.

IMO this is the best game since Halo 3. No hate on it at all. I loved Halo 3 the most and I’m not afraid to say that I hope Halo 6 will mirror the current mechanics/movement. Please for the love of all things don’t add anything more though haha.

Sequels that were better than their predecessor:

Skyrim > Oblivion
The Empire Strikes Back > A New Hope
Fable 2 > Fable
Cortez Strikes Back > Crash Bandicoot
The Dark Knight >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Batman Begins
GTA 3 > GTA 1 + 2 combined

Probably way more but you just can’t generalize that way.

Sorry I didn’t use the sarcasm font, but I was just pointing out how early editions are generally given an automatic preference by reputation more often than not. Ya know, before bands/artists/actors/directors/authors/musicians “sell out.”

This has been the case since forever. When H3 came out everyone hated on it, saying H2 was better. The same with Reach, H4, and so on. What it comes down to is the community is going to favor the game they started with or spent the most time playing. In another few years I’m sure the major consensus will be that Reach was the best game and completely forget all about everyone complaining about load outs, armor lock, etc.

Honestly though it is really tough to say X game was the best. Each had its high points and low points. H3 had the best matchmaking experience, Reach had Firefight, Grifball hit its peak with H4, and H5 has the best Forge.

One last point,H3 was Bungies third halo game, where as H5 is only 343s second. They have improve greatly since H4 so for me you must compare H2 to H5. Given where both games were in the series and the year they were released 343 is headed in the right direction. They do have a lot of work to do for H6 to be able to balance a game out that appeals to both hardcore and casual players. Time will only tell.

While I agree with most of this comment, your counter-question is pretty unfair.

Every fanboy will obsessively defend a developer, but not all people who defend developers are fanboys.

Because TMCC did not include everything that H3 has by itself…and in general it is still -Yoinked!- up. H5G guardians is still missing what made H2,H3,HR,and even H4 great content wise and same goes for TMCC because all of the things that made those games great are not included.
