Why is invasion removed?

It was the most epic mode for me in Halo Reach and teamplay was great and a must, why is this great game mode removed?

I agree. Really don’t think they should take any game modes out. Even if they just leave them for custom games. I’m not sure how game making works but if they got the code and know what they are doing for design why take it out? I donno.

Probably because there are no playable elite characters and the game mode wasn’t the most popular one.

probably because invasion wasn’t popular and because 343i thinks 3plots with weapon drops = invasion(lol).

I think “no playable Elites” is the best reason for why it hadn’t return.

Honestly I love Invasion in Halo Reach, the best new gametype that game had come with. You started off as spartans with minor Tier 1 weapons and abilities, but as you invade certain areas, your and the enemies Tier goes up and you have access to more abilites and weapons and vehicles. It was awesome. A perfect mix of Big Team Battle and Objective. What made it even better was that the enemy team was Elites and your team was Spartans so it felt really close to the fiction.

I don’t see why they couldn’t bring it back to War Games. Maybe Dominion took its place. Dominion is pretty cool, but it doesn’t have that same feel I had when first playing Invasion back in the Halo Reach Beta.

Dominion is a fun replacement of Invasion. Also, like back in Halo: Reach, there are only a few Invasion maps so it get’s boring especially if in a dedicated playlist.

OP: It depends on if you are talking about MM, or custom games.

Matchmaking:

  1. You would have to craft pretty special maps for this gametype. As it wasn’t a terribly popular playlist, I can see why they wanted to spruce it up, and add their own gametypes (Extraction/Dominion) to the mix.

  2. Lack of Elites. This could go either way; I don’t think you really need an elite model to have a gametype that is about progressive offensive pushes and last stand defenses. While I’m pumped about some of the new gametypes, I do miss the Offense/Defense feel that Invasion really brought to light.

Customs:

No idea why this got pulled here. But then again, we have bigger gripes at this point for missing custom games, so I won’t even begin to unpack why we’re missing Juggernaut, Assault, RACE, etc.

Invasion in Reach was really the only MM game type that I bothered playing. It had a feel like it had a purpose and objectives to it and I could get into the action of it. For me other MM game types have the feel that its just run, gun, and kill till the clocks tick down and I just can’t make myself get involved in them for very long.

I don’t think it being dropped had anything to do with playable elite characaters in H4 title though, because there weren’t any in Reach either.

It would have been nice if it had been brought along into the H4 title release in addition to the SparOps missions instead of replacing them, but its still out there on Reach when I get the rare urge to play something competitively so I’m not going to complain.

It was probably cut do to bugetary or developement reasons.

Invasion always felt like a half finished gametype, I’m glad it’s out personally.

Started to play multiplayer yesterday. I was looking for the Invasion game type. Found dominion and by the picture I thought that it was only a name change for it. You can’t imagine my disappointment…
Well, we’ll always have Reach…
Note: 90% of my games in Reach we’re Invasion.

There aren’t any playable elites, that could be part of it.

Or it could be because they trimmed down several other gametypes too. I really miss Assault, Juggernaut, Race and VIP. I’d like to see them return just as long as they don’t ruin any perfectly good playlists by introducing rocket race.

Invasion was actually in concept since Halo 2. The problem was always the same as it was in Reach; lack of space/resources to create maps for it.

It’s not a case of whether the mode worked or not, it’s just that they couldn’t support it effectively.

Also, Dominion is a “sort-of” replacement.

Dominion is no replacement to Invasion. Dominion is the same game type as Domination on COD. Real original 343i.

Domination is closer to Territories. Dominion does have elements of that, but the way bases work and such make it different.

Because it wasn’t good enough to make the cut. There are better things to put into the game than Invasion, on top of that Invasion uses a lot of unique mechanics; it would take a lot of resources and time to put into the game. Not worth it, IMO.

Its not like or based on Domination from CoD. Its on larger maps with capture point controlled vehicle spawns and once all the bases are captured then the team without an area goes into last stand where they have to capture a base so their team can spawn. This is exactly Conquest Assault from BF3, it is nothing like CoD.
