I’m not even criticizing the people it gives host to. It seems that Reach can’t go five seconds without going into another random blackscreen. It gets really annoying, really fast, especially if you’re playing MLG and all of the weapon timers get reset.
I know. I wonder if they could fix this in an update? But I’m 99% sure they won’t since Halo 4 is coming out in just over three months. Hopefully, they have resolved the problem in Halo 4.

Halo 4 uses peer to peer networking.
Halo 4 has Join-in-Progress game sessions.
If anything the problem will be exacerbated.

Tell me about it.
An interesting read, for those who haven’t read it.
Reach has an excellent netcode, but a lot of it is dependent on the player’s connection. Since most connections tend to have variations, a host migration can occur fairly often.

That link is way out of date and discusses Halo 3’s networking model. Reach’s is completely different.

The host selection still applies.

Don’t forget it’s got Reachs netcode copy pasted.
Hope you don’t like getting unfrigs because every minute or 2 there will be a blackscreen.
This is due to the -Yoink- Host history crap Halo us (as posted above). They actualy belive that crap works 100%, they have always used it in Halo and will use it in H4 as well. Why dont they just learn from any other modern AAA online game today, just give host to the player with best connection in the lobby and make a working region filter so we dont have to get matched on a host 4000 miles away. Matched on a host that far away should only be optional if there are very very few online and not when there was 800k or as of now when there’s about 100k.

We don’t know that for sure. In fact, from what I’ve heard, that’s one of the big issues in terms of host-migrations that they’re tackling is the resetting of sprees.
