Why is chief hunted by ONI do they want him or something he knows and why are ONI hunting Spartans
Right now nobody knows exactly why ONI wants the Chief, though a likely possibility is that he overworks himself, has a breakdown of some kind and goes AWOL. It’s implied some massive threat (Flood?) prompts the UNSC to send Locke after him, though it could simply be that ONI views him as too valuable of an asset to let go.
Locke said that the Master Chief went AWOL in the Halo 2A bonus cutscenes. I’m pretty sure when someone goes AWOL the Military searches for the person and “hunts” him down. ONI isn’t really hunting Spartans, they’re just trying to recover a valuable asset to the UNSC.
lets hope they don’t send Locke out to try and kill him…I don’t think it would end well for Locke…
Cant you guys read? Locke is sent by the unsc to bring back the best soldier, and the only one who can defeat the new treat in the inners colonies.
Probably ONI wants the CHief back because they might be thinking that they “own” him.

They kinda do.
Because he’s the Spartan the UNSC needs, but not the one it deserves.
Chief stole all the Dorritos and Mountain Dew from ONI, and now they want it back. How can they play Halo 5 without eating / drinking the sponsored snacks of Halo?
Chief is not teh valuable asset, Cortana is. Chief is just a 2 bit spartan. Cortana is the one with all the knowledge.

I think you underestimate the amount of time, money, training and PR behind a Spartan, let alone THE Spartan Master Chief. You don’t just let a valuable asset go AWOL.
Well, it’s confirmed he went AWOL. For one, they’d want him back because he’s a valuable asset. Having him just roaming wherever he could be with his emotions toying with him at the death of Cortana, he could possibly be manipulated to work against the UNSC. Although, very unlikely due to the fact that loyalty to the UNSC is engrained into his very being, it is a possibility. That or they don’t want him trying to bring back the original Cortana, since they can make a new one and wouldn’t want an old, previously destroyed AI in their systems.
Hunt is probably not the best word. Try, search for (yah it’s two words, big deal)
It seems like the Chief has gone AWOL according to Locke. This AWOL is probably due to the extreme emotional trauma he faced after losing Cortana. In the Halo 5 reveal teaser from last year you can see him clutching Cortana’s lifeless chip. He is obviously reminiscing. The UNSC is probably was probably trying to get Chief right back in to the action and that pushed him to the limit as for many years Cortana was his friend in combat and always kept him calm.
