Why is Halo Reach still good even with sprint?

People are not realizing that sprint by it’s self is not the problem. The problem is whatever 343 did to Halo 4 and is doing to Halo 5. Halo Reach’s sprint was simple, you run and it runs out and the you can run again. People did not run away because people always turn around to fight. The sprint did not always help them get away from grenades and it certainly did not unbalance the game. The core of Reach was and is still Halo. Sprint was healthy for it because the Kill Times were nice a timely so you could have fast gameplay limited by the speed of Kill Times which would give the game a balance sweet spot. You would still get beat by a skilled player and vice versa.

Reach was a horrible game hardly what I would have called balanced. It was suppose to be there swan song but it was more of a middle finger.

halo 5 is what reach should have been

Because Halo: Reach is the best one and everything works! I actually like clicking the bumper best for sprinting. It just feels right.

Reach had even slower killtimes and you weren’t kicked out of sprint for being shot.

How is Reach’s sprint in any way better than Halo 4?

Sprint worked because it was an AA that you choose for it’s benefits.

I made a thread detailing this but the premise is sprint gave an advantage of reaching power weapons faster and to set up. But anyone with half a brain could simply take it slow and not rush them to get killed or you could even use things like Armor lock (sprints direct counter) to negate power weapon control.

When everyone had sprint the game along with bloom played pretty cat and mouse with people escaping a lot due to chance of shots counting or not.

It’s because Reach was an entirely different engine. They say it’s only upgraded but when I play Halo 4 or watch halo 5 they’re NOTHING like the older games.

Reach was the best Halo game, and best game, ever made in my opinion.

because reach was and still is the most balanced halo

Reach was good in the last MLG version.

Because it’s fun. As long as Halo 5 is fun is all that matters. It doesn’t need to be a replica of Halo 2. If people want it to be an old game, I have one question for them, why not just play the old game?

what is this heresy im seeing? people saying reach was balanced? LOL
invasion slayer
sniper rifles (especially on hemorrhage)
armor lock
pistol vs ar
etc

yeah reach is awful no denying it
halo 4 and 5 are better in every way imaginable

I wouldn’t consider Reach to be the most balanced… I consider Halo 3 to be most balance. Halo 1 and 2 had a incredible individual player skill gap. So much that in pro circuits, the number 1 team is always number 1. Like STK and Final Boss. And no one can deny how unreal Final Boss was with Strongside they literally didn’t lose a single MATCH in the last MLG championship.

But Halo 3 has less emphasize in individual skill, it’s still there, but not as much as Halo 1/2. Therefore requiring much more team work. Which balances it out, just because you’re good individually, doesn’t mean you’re good in a team. Halo 3 IMO was the most balance Halo, a mixture of individual skill and teamwork required.

It wasn’t good, Sprint was only one of the many broken armor ability options for the player to choose before the match started along with armor lock, jetpack, and active camo.

And Reach is Halo at it’s core? There’s still bloom, crappy sandbox balance, the slowest movement speed out of any previous Halo (thanks to sprint), and vehicles becoming big piles of junk thanks to the dmr and sniper rifle getting anti-vehicle power. Sword block was a cheap way to gimp sword wielders out of a kill, and health packs never should have come back. They were taken out of Halo after CE for a reason.

A games balancing is nothing to do wtith what makes it fun or not.

Even if Halo 5 IS more balanced than Reach, it isn’t more fun. The game plays entirely differently.

its like saying ‘counter strike is more balanced’ and so it is a better game than Halo…

What makes you like Halo isn’t JUST for the balancing, it’s the actual engine mechanics -Yoink-.

Saying Halo 4 is better than Reach is just stupid.

Halo 4 looks like -Yoink- compared to Reach. Doesn’t play like Halo. Multiplayer gets borin after 2 games. The maps are -Yoink-. The forge is a HUGE step backwards from Halo Reach. And did I mention the game looks like -Yoink-?

oh, and Halo 4 is completely balanced isn’t it, it didn’t have custom classes or a 1 shot kill gun you could spawn with…

You should be banned from this forum

Unpunished sprint, slow kill times, and absolutely awful bloom is not a good combination for any game. You could make an argument that Halo 4 and 5 feel faster because of sprint (an argument that I could dismantle in an instant), but there’s no beating around the bush for vanilla Reach. It is incredibly slow, and sprint just makes it even slower.

At its core, though, I still feel that Reach multiplayer is ultimately “more Halo” than either of 343’s games so far. Sprint and other armor abilities were bull -Yoink-, but they could all be easily disabled. Bloom sucked and kill times sucked just as hard, but TU/ZB rectified those as well. I wish I could say the same for Halo 4 and 5, but so many new mechanics have now been made integral to the game that I just can’t.

Good lord do I miss Halo: Reach. I sold my xbox 360 and all the games along with it so I could purchase the xbox one (a good decision in my opinion). However, I will say I did not enjoy halo 4, if at all. I enjoy “Breakout” on the Halo 5 beta, but I don’t enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy Halo: Reach. Now something that has been bothering me for a while is everyone talks about how the bloom ruined gameplay mechanics in Reach. My personal opinion is that it added a new level of skill that needed to be achieved in order to not only get a single kill, but multiple kills in one life span. But it was changed soon after vanilla release!! And then another playlist was made available, so those who liked it could continue, and those who did not, could play elsewhere and be happy!

What’s really bad, is bullet MAGNETISM. It is and was HORRIBLE in Halo 4, and continues to be an absolute abomination in the Halo 5 beta. Why is this a thing? I realize that 343i has a new audience - the younger generation. I realize that it will be hard to hold their attention if the older generations (I’m only 23 btw) keep kicking “Newbs” butt! Seriously though, making the headshot hitbox enormous, way beyond the outside of the helmet is ludicrous. I am not going to get arrogant and say “OH MY GOD I WAS SO GOOD AT HALO,” but I was far above decent. Halo 3, I could get, at the very least, a killing frenzy or a running riot every other game, multiple times. But somehow, with all the bullet magnetism, I am lucky to get 3-4 kills a game uninterrupted. For the record, I stopped playing halo 4, and I only play Halo 5 beta for Breakout.

Yes, there are definitely good players in the new Halo games. I know! But have some fresh off the block, unexperienced, immature child manage to kill me, because he spams the trigger over and over, is far beyond ridiculous. I have a zero tolerance for that now. I don’t even play halo 4 multiplayer on the MCC.

Each person is entitled to their opinion. Some prefer Halo 2. I get that. Some prefer Halo 3. I definitely*** get that. (I love you Guardian!!!). Some prefer Halo 4. I even understand that. I don’t feel the same way, but I understand!

I on the other hand, prefer Halo Reach. You don’t have to agree! I know many of you don’t! But please, for me, and for those that agree, please bring Halo Reach to the xbox1 343i!!! Even if its a separate disc, I will totally pay for it! Don’t change anything from the way it is now, minus graphics! And I know I am grasping at straws… But make it possible to play with people on xbox one and 360. It’s the same game, on the same network service. (Yeah, I know that will never actually happen).

Yes, I could go out and repurchase an xbox 360, as well as Halo Reach. Too be honest, I have thought about it multiple times. But the reality is, that would not be a good personal economic decision. I am far better off saving my money for more important things.

Also, I respect and appreciate 343i’s efforts to make Halo a more team based game series. However, some people enjoyed the lone wolf play style! I liked being able to hop online, at any point (now it’s when I have the time, interest, or energy) and just play. I don’t have to wait for my friends to get online, and I don’t have to feel overwhelmed when I get paired with randoms versus a team!

So even if Halo Reach is never a thing on xbox1, please, please please please… Make it an option to play lone wolf across all MCC halo games! I miss lone wolves dearly on Halo 3. My god I would love to play that.

Finally, while I know this isn’t the right post to say this, I think Halo is going in the wrong direction. Yes, this is directed towards Halo 4. Halo 5, not so much, after all it is a beta. However, some points are valid for both games.

It’s too fast. Yes, I realize we want to have a game with tons of fun, keeping us on the edge of our seats. But some of what was fun about Halo was that is attracted multiple players, with multiple play styles. On top of that, they could all succeed and have a good time!

I’m not going to be that guy that says Halo is CoD now!!! But I will say it’s heading in that direction. There was a time when there were 3 EXCELLENT, SEPARATE styles of first person shooters. There was Call of Duty (C), Battlefield (B), and Halo (H). (Some of you could even argue Medal of Honor, but c’mon. That game series sucks now). And for the longest time, their series went down their paths in their own unique ways, like this:

B C H
B C H
B C H

But as time has continued, their paths have started to look like this:

B…C…H
B…C…H
B…C…H
.B…C…H.
…B.C…H…
…BC…H…
…B.C…H…
.B…C…H
B…CH…
B…C.H…
B…CH…
B…C.H…
B…C…H…
B…C…H…
B…C…H…
B…C…H…
B…C…H…

As you can see, they each had their own separate identities and tried to maintain those separations, while competing for customers. But after a while BF and CoD attempted to be the same and Halo tried to follow suit.

Bf and CoD recognized that maintaining their own identities was crucial to retaining their customer base, on top of improving and progressing.

Halo on the other hand keeps going back and forth, and can’t decide if it should keep its own identity, or be similar to the other two. And its frustrating, because as a gamer and a customer, I’ll see this progression, and keep getting my hopes up, and then getting disappointed… I don’t know what to think!

Yes, I’ll keep MCC, and I’ll continue playing Halo 3 and Halo 2 Anniversary Rumble Pit. But after a certain point, I think I’ll just stop playing Halo. I have Destiny, GTA, and Battlefield to keep me entertained. Its unfortunate though, because the original reason I bought an xbox 360 back in the day, was to play Halo 3. And now look at where we are.

Not even as the separate Halo game communities, but as a FULL Halo Community, it’s just not present anymore. I’m not pointing fingers, but what happened? It can’t all be 343i tweaks to the games, or Bungie leaving. It’s the gamers themselves. What are we to do?

:frowning:

I know that was all long to read, and some of it was not valid to OP. If you took the time to read this, thank you. If not, I don’t blame you. Let me know if you agree. If you don’t agree, not to sound ignorant, but to don’t let me know. I’m already aware of how many people didn’t like Halo: Reach.

TL;DR - I miss Halo: Reach.

P.S. to the 343i staff: Do any of you prefer Halo Reach over the other games, just in terms of playstyle? (Multiplayer only).

Reach was hated, you just seem to have forgotten. When Halo 6 is released Halo 4 will be seen as great by you purists.

I have not forgotten. Nor am I a purist. As I stated, Halo Reach was my favorite, and Halo 3 was my second. I enjoyed Halo 2 and Halo CE as well.

Good lord you are ignorant. And I will never see Halo 4 as great. I have enjoyed every single Halo game immensely, except for Halo 4, as I said.

What are your thoughts on the Halo games? Do you have anything useful to add to the conversation? Or are you just here to troll and be an ignorant -Yoink!- ?

Reach was far from balanced unless you consider numerous broken AA balanced. I still had fun playing it though, not as much as the original 3, but more than Halo 4.

Halo 5 plays completely different in my eyes than any other Halo. The movement is destinctly different which results in different play patterns. I still enjoy it, but I can’t foresee it being an all time favorite of mine unless there are some fundamental changes implemented.

You could not be more wrong. Halo 4 was basically a giant middle finger to anyone who wanted to play a game for more than a few weeks after release. Reach sucked but at least it got a little better with the TU; a lot of people will agree with that. 4 just sucked for its life and still sucks in the MCC.
