So there are 3 ‘acts’ to the animated adaption of Halo: Fall of Reach, and being an adoption I thought it would finish where the book left off. However, it finishes in Act 2 of the book with the demise of one of Chiefs closest friend, I’m hoping that they are just progressively releasing each episode as it is a huge waste of the books expansive story and is also poorly named if so. If anyone knows anything about this, please leave it below, and what are your opinions on this?
My theory, 343i made some changes to the universe since the novel was first published.
Namely, during the battle of Reach basically every Spartan II was KIA with the exceptions of Sierra 117 & Linda (but Linda was toast from suffering third degree burns on about 95% of her body).
which at the time supported Bungie’s narrative but really upset me. How could we win if every Spartan was dead?
Personally, I like how 343i changed this. The only down side, the Battle of Reach would have to be re-written prior to putting it into a full length anime or movie.
The book does fit into the current universe and all that, so thats not a problem. No idea why they didn’t adapt the whole damn thing though! There better be more coming.

Did you read First Strike?
In the books, it was never stated that the losses of S-IIs were that dramatic.
It was only Bungie the ones messing it up.
Surviving Spartan IIs and a few IIIs, such as Kelly 087, were stuck in a micro Dyson sphere on Onyx but later escapes and met up with some UNSC Frigates. The getting stuck part was in Ghosts of Onyx but the escape I haven’t figured out yet from the games and haven’t seen any new publications on the subject.

Glasslands.

The vast majority of S-II deaths were still on Reach though, at least, counting only the ones who survived augmentation.

Yeah, but that’s very far from saying “Linda and John are the only survivors.” The books never contradicted the lore, the Bungie games on the other hand grew fond of saying “Master Chief is the last Spartan-II.”
Yeah I was confused by this too. I hope they do the rest of the book.

Ot was easy to say that cheif was the last s II after onyx. No one knew blue team was stuck there. So really bungle was crafty at leaving g this open for possible future story
I get why they only did that one part (the whole book would have to be like 2 hours long), but I don’t get why they called it the Fall of Reach. They should have just called it Halo: Blue Team; based on Eric Nylund’s novel ‘The Fall of Reach.’ Then we would have known what to expect a little more.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. 343 try to tell the past of Blue Team to the newcomers through Fall of Reach, and all the guys will think/ask at the end what about Reach? Since the title says FoR, and they didn’t even get a bit from that.
Anyway I like it but there are some things bothers me a bit.
I hate that they retouched the gym fight scene. They made John look like a murderous sociopath, instead of a young warrior following orders. Yeah, Sam hinted at it in the voiceover but no one told John to kill those guys like they did in the book, and it has huge implications for his overall character, IMO.
I’m feeling pretty mislead by this whole thing. The Fall of Reach animated series is the ONLY reason I bothered with the incredibly overpriced Limited edition. Had I known they didn’t actually finish the story, and that this doesn’t even feature the titular battle of Reach, I would have gone for the standard edition.
Anyone else think this was more than a little deceptive? How can they justify marketing this as an adaptation of the novel, when it’s only an adaptation of half the novel?
Has anything been said on whether or not future acts will be released?

I hope there will be because I feel really ripped off right now. From the gym fight scene the whole thing just spiraled out of control story wise and only used about 30% of each aspect of the story being told. Sam’s death wasn’t too bad since they had him going down guns blazing, but the rest of that scene didn’t happen anything like that in the book.
I watched it with my wife last night and she couldn’t figure out why I was so disappointed every few seconds that I loaded up the kindle app on her phone, linked it to my account, and she’s now reading Fall of Reach just so she can see how much better Nylund’s story is than what we’ve been handed.
Not to mention how wrong the MJOLNIR variations are as far as canon. They all receieved the same MARK IV with identical helmets and colors I thought. But then they show Kelly, Linda, and Fred with their MARK VI helmets when they first got them. If I’m wrong…please correct me. I’ve got thick skin.
Is it me or any else got the feeling that almost every children looks like the same. Only Chief got “another” head/face, the others (mostly Blue Team) have the same head/face with a little changes.
The animated FoR is just to introduce Blue team, nothing else.

The animated series is not a truly canonical visual representation of the novel or of the lore. It serves to be a visual adaptation of the story that takes liberties with lore for the sake of storytelling.
As long as you don’t try to reconcile it with the lore (it really isn’t canonical at all), it’s easier to enjoy as a story designed to further introduce and give background to Blue Team, especially for the people who aren’t hardcore fans enough to have read the books.

You’re not wrong, but the series was explicitly stated to tale artistic liberties for the sake of story (and visual distinction).
However, it doesn’t closely align itself with the lore, as implied. It serves more as an adaptation of the book, and isn’t necessarily canonical in all of its depicted events.
