Why is Halo called “infinite”?

Is there any article or explanation as to why this game was called Halo infinite? Has 343i told us? I’ve heard supposedly it’s going to be a 10 year long project or so, have they confirmed that? If so where and what does that even mean?

A ring has neither an end or a beginning. This metaphor is used a few times in audiologs. Plus it’s a play on the word Endless who are the new big bad.

Also because it has a big open world it’s a play on the scale of the game.

Personally I think it’s because the future of Infinite will in some shape or form deal with time travel. There’s audio logs that already hint that the Endless are capable of it, which is likely why Aatriox is allied with them (he wants to save his people from Cortana wiping them out) and the legendary ending teases that Aatriox already went back in time.

And if Chief found out about it, he’d be want to save Cortana. Which in turn is in line with helping Aatriox. If Chief saved Halo 4 Cortana before her death, they could avert all of the atrocities she committed.

It’s similar to Bioshock Intinite in a way, a game that also played with time travel. Even has audio logs like Bioshock series does.

I always thought it was because of how long the game was in production.

Lol dude……lol that was funny

10 more years of 343 dragging the name Bungie through the dirt… Oh joy.
343 didn’t even have the nerve to give it the title Halo 6 that should speak volumes.
I enjoyed the campaign, ish. The open world concept was neat… However, I don’t see them milking the franchise that long lmao.

I don’t understand what you mean….what does it mean to you that they wouldn’t call it “halo 6”? And you believe they won’t “milk” the franchise anymore? Meaning what? They’re going to quit halo? I don’t understand what this response to my post was !

I thought it was named infinite so the developers can take the series to infinite possibilities by opening up the Halo universe for spinoffs. Just my thoughts.

They mentioned they were moving away from numbers in 5. Thats why its halo 5:guardians.

Its this weird marketing belief that ‘big’ (cause apparently 5 and 6 are big numbers) scare people.

As for the word infinite itself, 343 seems to really like the word, what with the ship named Infinity.

I see, but no confirmation on why exactly it’s named infinite? Any articles to what you say? I guess my concern is I wasn’t to impressed with the campaign and to wait another 6 years might just do it for me with halo after two decades. Hard to get immersed with such gaps between games, especially when you’re not happy with the story as of now. So I’m really wanting to hear what’s going on…anyways thanks for the response though.

I think the marketing things is more do do with new player adoption.

If new players see numbers like 6, 7, 8, etc, they may be put off buying it because of a preconceived idea that they’ll need to get caught up to understand the game, a bit like seasons of a TV show.

I’m pretty sure they mentioned something along these lines when they first announced the title for 5: Guardians. But it’ll be a Waypoint post from nearly a decade ago, which I can’t be bothered to go looking for.

I’m aware, though i’m not sure why advertising that you have multiple successful titles (which are also bundled in a low cost bundle) is a bad thing.

In an article, (I would link it if I could), 343 said that Halo Infinite is going to be a 10 year project where they continuously add to it. Expanding and adding to the multiplayer, but I also presume they’ll be creating new stories and adding them as DLC.

This will perhaps allow us to get stories that we’ve been asking spin-offs on for so many years. Perhaps a Headhunter and ODST DLCs are in the works, one where you play as the Arbiter etc. Maybe even a Flood one considering they are also on the ring.

Due to Infinite being a 10 year plan, it’ll be like a hub for the next 10 years of Halo content, hence the name

The great reset.

You will own nothing and be happy.

Ifinity of infinites

2030

10 year plan

Yeah, I’ll never comply with that and I know plenty of people that won’t either and are planning accordingly. It’ll be “from my cold dead hands” with the amount of guns and ammo I see people stocking up. Even as an MD, I can’t blame those people and it’s going to end in tremendous bloodshed if the delusional upper class thinks they can get away with their BS when they already have more wealth than the rest of the population combined.

Anyway, Halo is called infinite because it has infinite ways to suck your wallet dry as infinite support for a live service (which will never be true). That, or it’s just a play on the “Endless” .
If it’d have been Infinity, with the ship as a base for a periodic chapter based storyline around it and the ring, it would have been a more logical fit, but it gets overtaken in the intro…so whatever…
IMO, trying to avoid the bigger numbers is just cowardice. It’s not going to delete what previously happened and they could easily make a cool intro cutscene that explains the (relevant) story so far. Something that actually should already be mandatory for the 343 Halo titles, since they all heavily rely on the EU that most players won’t have read.
There will no doubt be a lot of stupid sequel names after, just like MS’ poor naming of their consoles. IMO, sticking with the numbers, gives people a good indicator where that title fits in the franchise, going with names, people won’t have a clue when the amount of titles reaches a certain point.

Also with the time travel aspect it would potentially enable us (as the master chief) to go back to previous Halo worlds and locations with all new graphics and gameplay, it would be nostalgic and also appealing to revisit some of those and rewrite history.

Wow. You are a lot more awake than a thought anyone would be in here. I’m seriously surprised. I’m glad you see what going on here. I hope others see it soon
