Why is Halo 5's multiplayer so hard?

I hate to sound like a scrub, but i get so mad at this game. It’s like everyone plays like an -Yoink-. I just want to have fun but people are to scared to get killed and have their K.D drop(like it means something) so they go run for the power weapons. I’m not playing ranked either nor do i intend to now that i’ve seen how people play arena like a bunch of cowards hiding with their snipers. I miss paying 3 and reach were two guys could crash a warthog into one another and laugh how they both died. This game puts too much focus on scoring and points and not enough on enjoying yourself.

Yeah 343 kinda made this game wayyy too focused on competive, ther is no room for anything social. Either that or the community is too try hard, today every maych i played was full of try hards.

I understand what you mean. Game is too competitive and has little to no space for casual players. 1 of my solution for social playlists is to remove stat-tracking on our K/D & W/L ratio so those people who buff their stats on social playlists will run back to competitive to show their real stats.

I mean, that’s how people play with the sniper in all Halo games.

Because most players are very good at Halo 5.

Spartan abilities change the game play, sprint is a big factor because you can run away if shields are low. Team shot is very effective in h5.

The multiplayer isn’t competitive in social playlists. I played a match in social skirmish yesterday to try it out ( I’ve ranked onyx). I thought it was incredibly easy, I played three matches where I always had over 25 kills and a 8K/D without using sprint or Smart scope at all(for fun ;))while in ranked playlists I struggle to get through games with a 2K/D, essentially it’s completely based on if you want to have fun (social) or looking for a challenge (ranked). Anyway I wish you good luck!

I can sympathize with you - as I’ve played since H2 and I’m still complete rubbish - but whenever I think of making this complaint, I have to take a step back.

What do you mean in wanting the game to be ‘more fun.’ Because for me, the funnest games are the games where I win and do really good (which happens from time to time). So if I’m being beaten a lot and complain that others are ‘try-hards’, I’m not really asking people to play ‘casually’, I’m wanting to beat them.

So I think it’s an unspoken reality that when players complain about ‘try-hards’ or wanting it to be more ‘casual’ what in essence they’re actually saying is: “I want to win more and beat the other players.” That’s totally understandable! And I totally get the frustration of losing. I just think it’s good to step back and perhaps realize that when we complain about losing a lot, we’re really just wanting to switch places with the players that beat us.

That’s my thoughts anyways.

Theres a whole section of the game dedicated to social playlists…

Yeah but often it is full of clans and gropus of very high ranking players, that play extremely aggressively. So sometimes it defeats the purpose of social.

It sounds like you should join a community of custom gamers.

The worst of it is in warzone when I see teammates standing outside of an armory being capped and refusing to enter for fear of dying. If they all ran in the base, it would be saved and only a few would even get hit but none of them are willing to risk one death and essentially forfeit the game as a result

You’re right but this complaint is more about people who think that getting killed is unacceptable and play selfishly. Losing is fine but not when you see that half your team refused to work together.

I’ve been having a lot of trouble with hit detection lately (or at least it seems like it) and it’s been making me stray away from Arena out of sheer frustration. That is, of course, entirely the fault of my network.

People have always ran for power weapons in Halo, its a Halo thing.

People sit back with snipers… hmmmm isnt that what snipes are used for. Of course if your in a competitive mode expect to get snap shotted more then cross mapped.

When in the world did that happen in H3 or reach in a arena like mode such as slayer. That stuff happens all the time in BTB and sitting back and camping with snipe happened in those modes as well.

Ever think people enjoy winning in modes were winning is the only goal. The modes in which shenanigans take place are outside of those core modes (slayer, ctf, etc). Those core modes are always going to be competitive, they have been in every halo whether you liked it or not.

For the first time, competitve and social players are being forced to play the same way, leaving both parties unhappy. Universal settings are at fault imo.

I’m on the fence with this one.

I do activate tryhard mode sometimes on this game, but I get sick of it. I do it because I would rather be a tryhard than lose the game 50-20.

But often I get sick of it, so I go back to MCC where everything feels great again. I have such a love hate relationship with this game.

I play the game for fun, but sometimes I make it more of a chore for myself. What I will say though, is I’d rather it be this way instead of how H4 was.

Just to add I enjoy H4 to this day, but I can understand why others hate it.

Love hate relationship is the word. Whenever I play FFA or group up with just 1 more person it goes pretty well and matches are fairly even. But as soon as I matchmake solo in social skirmish or the likes all the fun is just stomped out of the game, holy hell I have never experienced such consistency in terrible matchmaking. Losing strongholds games 100-6 is a regular occurence and being completely destroyed in slayer 75-15 is also all too common. People leave left and right and I cannot blame them at all.

This rarely, if ever, happens in MCC but is an every day thing here.

H5 focuses WAY too hard on being competitive, for the majority of people Halo MP has always been about social fun. It took H5 around a year to get social playlists.

One thing that frustrates me a bit about some of the maps is how campy some of them can be… the little nooks in the Treehouses on Fathom, Back Tower on Empire… little “closets” that contribute nothing to the map layout, and just serve as places to camp.

Halo should be promoting 1v1 firefights, not giving any more incentive to camp sometimes ALREADY campable areas. You can just sit Back Treehouse on Fathom and get free kills because very few people, even at high ranks, will check or pre-nade the outside corner there. It really serves very little purpose besides exploiting the geometry in that fashion… to catch oncomers off-guard.

Well as you say yourself you’ve ranked Onyx, so you’re probably among the better players, so you won’t have the same experience as the average player. I (highest I’ve ranked is Diamond) usually have a better time in ranked and social absolutely ruin any fun because the matchmaking is so incredibly unbalanced there and people are trying so damn hard.
