Well, I know why: Because the Guardians are introduced in this game as the main threat to the galaxy. However, my question is in regards to why it was decided that the next main-title game of the series was going to be given a subtitle at all. Yes, Halo “1” had “Combat Evolved” as its subtitle, but that was the very first one, and I don’t know if Bungie ever decided that early on that they would make a string of sequels. Then we had Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Halo 3: ODST was a spinoff, so of course it had a subtitle to a) place the game within a certain timeline and b) differentiate it. But Halo 5: Guardians… I may as well view H5 as a spin-off, with all of the story threads from Halo 4 onward that were unceremoniously dropped. It’s not even a real sequel to Halo 4, IMO. But, I digress… I sure hope that Halo 6 has no subtitle, to return to tradition.
To be quite frank, and not disregard your question, I don’t think its that big of a damage to the series that they subtitled an extra word into the title. Well, I take that back, maybe it was a bad idea…LoL.

I sort of like to think it’s because they really wanted to let the players know that the Guardians were important to the story, now, since they seem to have created them out of thin air just to start a new storyline/threat - that maybe including them into the game’s title would make the community more…accepting? IDK.
Adding “Combat Evolved” to the first Halo was actually Microsoft’s decision, so people would know what type of game they were buying.
In regards to Halo 5, and moving forward, Bonnie Ross decided that, since Halo is not Final Fantasy, they were going to start adding subtitles to future Halos.
I honestly think it was a dumb decision on their end. One thing I’ve always said was, Halo isn’t Call of Duty, yet that didn’t stop them from adding the CoD-styled gameplay.

It might be to avoid…hmmmm how do I explain this? Just look at Final Fantasy, that’s probobly what 343i is attempting to avoid. A Halo 9+ just sounds silly. “Hey dude I just bought Halo 24 from GameStop today” Halo 5: Gaurdians was just a start, I could imagine something going like this: **Halo: Rise of the Forunners-***the 7th edition to the blockbuster Xbox title.*just my thoughts.

There gunna need to a little bit more than just a title change if they want people to get serious about Halo again. You could call it Call of Halo, BattleHalo, Halofield, Halo: The Love Affair Between AI and Man-Machine, just get the damn issues under control and have a hot fix team on stand by when crap hits the fan.

See, that to me just is silly. It makes me think of Assassin’s Creed, where once they started throwing in subtitles, I no longer could really tell which game was the “true” sequel, and which was just a spin-off. I really would hope that Halo’s main story won’t go so far that they have 24 main-title games! I don’t know, sometimes it just feels like it diminishes it. It’s not like with, say, Star Trek and Star Wars movies, where from the very beginning they had subtitles and kept that tradition going. So we knew what to expect. But Halo 2 onward…? I view subtitles as being the badge of a spin-off game, to differentiate it from the main series.
cuz Bonnie Ross wants to lean away from numbered Halo titles…
I think it was gonna be part of the old ideas of stories for the Halo 5 Campaign then got cut and kept the word Guardian on Halo 5.
Im betting bt 7 we wont have numbers in the titles. Which is ok with me.
Well they said they want Halo to become a saga. I don’t see why it really matters if they are only numbered or only sub titled or both.
cuz the guardians are your mission in the campaign
Because they wanted to make Halo 5 sound cooler than it actually is.
