Why is Halo 5 so underrated?

As we all know, Halo 5 has not receive too much positive feedback from the majority of the community, and the state of it is rather divided.
However, thanks to 343, we received a game that was better than the previous installment in the series, in my opinion.
Halo 5 obviously has its flaws, especially when conpared to previous installments, mainly Halo 3, Halo 2, and Halo CE.

However, 343 has tried to keep the community happy ever since Halo 5’s launch, which when done by a business, is a extremely good thing.
Ranging from free DLC, a much better version of Forge, and Warzone.
What I am saying is that Halo itself has been a bit divided and underrated in my opinion, judging by Halo 5’s current state.
343’s new edition of the REQ system made a very good edition to Halo, making it easy to acquire even the rarest pack (without using real life money) available to the average user in just a few games, and also making it more fun knowing everyone is on a even playing field.
Once again, 343 is not perfect, but they are certainly trying to make us happy with free REQ drops, a updated Forge (however took longer than expected to drop though), and other things.

This is my personal opinion on all of this, and let me know if you have any questions or if you disagree, I am open to civilly discuss anything.

It didn’t start with much. I saw the merit and potential then gameplay offered, so I stuck with it. I love it though. Loved it since the first time I played it, when I was REALLY skeptical.

I agree with you mostly about forge. The new forge is just SOOOOOO GOOD. I LOVE IT. I’m not even a forger but the things people make for others to play are just so cool!

While I really like Halo 5, the downsides of the game are what people don’t like. 343 does a good service with free monthly content updates, however this is due to the micro transactions in the REQ system, and talking about the REQ system, people don’t like unlocks being entirely based on chance, 343 should’ve put in a few armors that are unlocked via achievements or commendations. Another reason is no split screen in the game, this has also affected me personally, now that me and my brother can’t play together, and this problem is made even worse when the resolution of the game isn’t constant, and the frames per second drops after a distance.

One thing 343 can do, is to put up a classic playlist for the classic fans, such as a Halo CE inspired slayer with the M6D Magnum, or classic slayer from Halo 2 and 3 with the H2 BR.

I really like this game, but that doesn’t mean I ignore the flaws, 343 has a lot of room for improvement for Halo 6.

I don’t know I think the campaign and multiplayer great in almost every way

but I like halo 3 and would perfur classic gameplay

I agree for the most part, 343’s decision to remove split screen was a terrible move on their part.
The removal of split screen does not affect me very much, but it still has angered me because it makes me miss those days where me and my friends would play Halo 3 when they would come over. It was one of the better experiences I have had in this game truthfully.
Anyway, their choice to put microtransactions for REQ packs was not a good move either, and I would personally love a classic playlist to where older fans could enjoy the feeling of older Halos.
I do however like the direction of where Halo has gone, but I just think 343 needs to know what makes a Halo game, well, a Halo game.
Their intentions with the game is outstanding, and what they have done to try to add new things is amazing also, but they definately could have picked a different path while doing so (as in removing splitscreen for better graphics).

People really like to hate on stuff. 6 years ago Halo was a topic to talk about with other xbox users, reach had a massive player base. I went on a few times last year and there was still like 25k people online. A lot of people didn’t like that a game company that came out of no where took over one of the biggest franchises of all time and so jumped on the hate band wagon, cause its now fashionable to hate on 343i. On top of this, Halo 5 has a unique play style. I have a mate who was a crazy call of duty player who had something like 100 days gameplay. He came to Halo 5 and just couldn’t deal with it, he was terrible and just couldn’t get used to the play style. Another one of my friends bought it 2 months ago and he stuck to it and is now level 45 and he enjoys it. It really just takes a bit of getting used to.

Another thing that is my personal biggest issue with Halo 5 is a dodgy UI, which I know drives a lot of players away. Very few AAA titles have the same drop out and server lag issues. So often I start up Halo 5 and am met with ‘profile sync error’ ‘retrieving data’ and a bunch of others. This leads me to repeatedly exiting the game, hard restarting my xbox for up to 15mins for it to start working. Then 4 games later everyone has white emblems, I can’t retrieve post game carnage report and I do not receive XP or Req points. I deal with it because I am a die hard fan and love the game but I 100% understand why players who have no history with the series wouldn’t stick around. 343i needs to make a highly functional UI in order to keep more players I think. After WZ firefight there top priority should be smoothing out as many issues as possible and make the game work fine on start up. And no my internet isn’t that bad, I’m Australian and a lot of my mates who I play with have the exact same issues, our internet is good enough to play any other FPS AAA title out, it is exclusively a Halo 5 issue.

That is really just these forums. Remember: people who have nothing to complain about do not complain. If people are perfectly satisfied with the game, you will not be seeing them in these forums. To say a majority of the community criticizes the game is a bold statement when you do not have all of that information available to you.

The lack of content at release…

>Free DLC
I can’t play promises man

Because the general public isn’t interested in the Halo franchise as much as it used to be.

Poor writing, new gameplay mechanics that were unwanted by most Halo players, poor playlist choices, cut content including gametypes, custom game options, customization options, whole game modes all for the sake of pacing content out and trickle feeding Halo 5’s fanbase to trick a lot of people into thinking 343 is doing a good thing. Oh and microtransactions.

This game is rated just where it needs to be.

That was my opinion on the entire situation, but yes I do agree with what you said.
People who are satisfied with the game will not in fact be showing up here on the forums, but I will go into a bit more context on why I said what I said.
The reason I called it the “majority” is because it is either an understatement to call them that at this point.
Calling them the minority is also difficult because the backlash has been voiced by a more than a minority, but rather it is several different ‘factions’ of minority’s who are complaining about different things, while also are voicing theirs.
This includes the “I want the falcon” and “I want swat to be nerfed” complaints, but the reason I say this is because at the same time there is people who are also saying “I want Halo 3 again” and “Old Halo was better” (which in most cases it was).
These are two different sets of people, with different opinions, while still complaining about something different.

While I obviously do not have all the information available to myself, but nobody else and their mother has the information either. (Referring to the average avid Halo player, not a 343 employee)
Rather it was a mistake on my part to jump to that conclusion to say that “a majority of Halo fans do not give positive feedback to Halo 5”, this is more of the bigger picture of my opinion.

To be fair, there are people who would complain regardless of how well things are going. They would always find something. This is as true for gaming as it is real life.

It just takes logic to decide what is worth listening to and what isn’t. Mindless fanboy ism can be ignored. Mindless complaining can be ignored.

Not a bold statement since Halo 5 has sold the worst out of any main Halo game, and has the second worst population retention. The majority of the players have spoken with their wallets, and they said they don’t Halo 5.

Don’t make your judgment by this toxic community. I wouldn’t say H5 is underrated. It still has 4 out of 5 stars in Xbox store and that is out of 52063 reviews.

What actual proof do you have? Digital sales can’t be counted for on any ones estimates and there is no population counter at all.

I was referring to Halo 5 when it was compared to previous titles.
I was speaking in hindsight my opinion on the current state of the game, but in a sense, I can agree.
For the most part though, I am sticking to my orginal opinion, because when you do compare Halo 5 to titles like Halo 3, or even Reach, I do not think it has the amount of attention previous Halo games had.

i wouldnt say a majority since a majority of players dont states their opinions on these forums.

Well that will come down to personal opinion really.

thats also because players have shifted from wanting an arena style game to twitch shooting and a severely decreased skill gap. Those games makes players feel instantly rewarded hence the attraction. Now we are slowly starting to see a rise in arena style games with doom and overwatch though games like overwatch are mostly a PC fanbase. I wouldn’t necessarily blame the game but more of the change in genre taste for fps players.
