I sort of just saw that the population count at it’s peak is 60,000 players for Halo 5 multiplayer and to be honest this is quite disappointing. Halo is supposed to be one of those few number one multiplayer games on the xbox and it makes me wonder where all the other players are. What are they playing if they aren’t playing Halo 5?
I mean I have other games I play as well like Gears of War 4, Titanfall 2, Call of Duty and Battlefield but Halo has always been my main multiplayer game. Has the gamer population itself gone down over the years or is just too spread out?
Also granted Halo 5 didn’t have much content when it was first launched so I’m guessing this kind of hurt it some. There needs to be some sort of promotion to show that Halo 5 has much more content now. I’m sure it’d get a back bit of its player base.

How do you know the population? Not doubting you cause it makes perfect sense that it’s that low, but I just wanna know where you got this info from?
Titanfall’s player count doesn’t go above 25,000 on Xbox, but Titanfall was launched at a terrible time. I feel that it isn’t as much of a competitor as Battlefield.
Putting aside where you got that information from, Halo 5 has been out a while and there are plenty of other major titles out. There are a million reasons why people aren’t playing Halo 5 right now, honestly.
simple there is 3 new games out bf1 titanfall and cod is still around(somehow) people get bored and want to try out new games, plus its been awhile since there has been any significant update and as soon as the December update comes out people will be back.
Wheres this source? I find it hard to believe 343 randomly told us the player count at its “lowest” after a year of the game being out.
Also, hypothetically if this was the actual count, apart from that not being a bad number a year after release, there has been 3 major titles came out in the last 4 weeks. That would obviously cut into Halos population.

Halo has always been the game I played the most, but since 343 took over, that hasn’t been the case.
Speaking from my own personal experience, it’s just changed way too much and for the worse. 343 has tried too hard to make Halo their own that it’s just not worth my time anymore. Take a look at The Coalition, the new developers of Gears of War since Epic Games left. They’ve kept Gears 4 very familiar to the original games. They looked at the 3 original games and took what people liked about them.
343 on the other hand, took everything we hated from Reach, the least popular Halo game at the time, and amplified them in Halo 4, along with looking at other games and copying them, when they should have looked at Halos 1-3 for inspiration. Now we’re at Halo 5 and 343 is still doubling down on things that frustrate us.
So in short, I’ve been spending my time playing Gears 4 because I like how The Coalition has stayed true to the Gears franchise, instead of going off and trying to make it their own with a bunch of useless gimmicks to attract people who don’t like Gears to begin with, like what 343 has been doing to Halo since Halo 4. And of course, the art style and sound design. Gears 4 still looks and sounds like a Gears game, Halos 4 and 5 look and sound nothing like what we were accustomed to.
Halo 5 is currently sitting at the 20th most played game on the Xbox One as I type this. For a game that came out over a year ago, and that has its fair share of problems… servers I’m looking at you, I’d say 60,000 players is very good.
As for those of you saying that Halo 2 and 3 kept a larger population for longer, you must remember this: Back in 2004 and 2007 we didn’t have as many AAA games coming out. Call of Duty, which has three in the top most played alone, did not even compare to Halo in terms of multiplayer until CoD4 in 2007 when it really jump started the series into what it is today. Halo was the big dog then because it was one of the few games that actually had a big multiplayer audience back then. But that is not the case anymore, there are dozens of franchises that compete with Halo every year now. So I for one will take that 60,000 number and be proud of it.
First I will say I never have a problem finding a game so “low population” doesn’t discourage me. I played every Halo long after some claimed the game as “dead”. But Halo has low population due to bad servers, granted they are better now, but plenty(especially outside the US) complain about them. Lack of spilt screen drove quite a few players away. bare bones launch and taking a bit to long to add to the game, first impressions mean a lot and H5 wasn’t all that good of one. Lastly the game plays way to competitive for the majority of who are now casual gamers. But H5 population isn’t to bad it’s ahead of some newer games in the Xbox live most played sometimes. It’s ahead of Titanfall 2 and star wars battlefront right now and even watchdogs 2
There is no way to get the population numbers. The only method we have is the most played list, and the most popular list, which we use other games population to show a range. Also, 60k is just not reasonable.

Even though you say Reach was the least popular at the time(in which I’d say CE was less popular but we don’t got statistics), it still had a healthy player base that maintained above 100K players for 2 years after release, normally around 300K with its highest being close to a million. Just trying to say it isn’t a bad thing it had less players, and it should definitely be looked at for advice on how to make future Halo games.
